[Today, Yuan is wandering the streets of Paris. He has a notebook in hand as well as his journal, although he couldn't actually care less about the 'role' the castle has assigned him for this week. There are too many things for him to think about, not least the reappearance of Martel, and what it could mean.

He stops on a bridge over the Seine and leans on the rail to watch the water go by, scarf fluttering slightly in the breeze. Eventually, he addresses the journal:]

...When we had the adventure with the pirates...we met some familiar faces. Did anyone manage to elicit memories of home or the castle from them?

[Yuan sounds strangely pensive tonight.]

It's strange...when I think back to when I got here. It isn't just me that's changed, these four years. Some few of you may remember a time when the forest around the castle was impenetrable. Anyone who tried to go too far became turned around and emerged back at the castle, or if they were determined enough simply woke up in their bed. The mountains were distantly visible, but unreachable by any means.

It was...when did that change? The first we noticed, I think, was sometime after the castle turned into New York. Suddenly, the mountains were reachable, forming the edge of a barrier beyond which all powers and magitech began to fail. Suddenly, for the first time we had something almost like freedom in our new world. ...I wonder, how many now recall that first expedition? It was later still that we managed to expand the border - Raine Sage accomplished that, and how many even recall her? It'll be a year since she left in a few months' time. As an immortal - former immortal - I should be used to people coming and going and being forgotten, but it's so much faster here...

[He pauses, and regains his thread.]

And it wasn't until after that that we learned we aren't alone here. That there are people living in the Dead Zone, something we now take for granted...much like the outposts at the border to the Dead Zone, and those haven't been there long at all, relatively speaking. We've learned so much since then...and yet it sometimes feels like we know less now than we did at the time.

[Having finally having had a chance to speak with Fred about his plans for Cerebro, Charles figures it's high time he spoke with his other potential assistants. He knows it's a big project, but it'll be well worth everyone's time in the long run. Sitting out on the roof, Charles clears his throat a moment, before writing a filter into his journal.]

[Filtered to Dr. Ray Stantz]

Dr. Stantz? It's Charles Xavier. I'm not sure if your memory doppleganger told you about me, but I have a project I'm working on that I'd appreciate your help with. I've discussed it already with Fred, but it's promising to be a fairly large undertaking, so I'm looking for all the help I can get. Given what I observed in your memories, I believe you're the sort of scientist who could help me in this endeavor.

We can discuss it in person, or over the journal if you like. I'm free either way.

[Filtered to Yuan of the Peace Patrol]

Yuan? It's Charles Xavier. I'm not sure if we've been properly introduced, but I have something I wish to discuss with you. I'm planning on, with help, building a device that can amplify and broadcast my telepathy, for use during crises such as what we faced with Legato and Riful. I'm wondering if I might have your permission to actually build the thing in the Peace Patrol's headquarters, for the sake of transparency toward it's purpose, as I imagine that some in the castle would want such a powerful tool regulated.

[Filtered to The Fifth and Eleventh Doctors]

Hello chaps, I apologize for being out of contact for so long. As it turns out, researching the technology and theory behind long-range telepathic projection took much more of my attention than I'd intended. Keeping out of trouble I hope?

Anyway, the main reason I'm filtering to the both of you is to ask for your help. You both obviously have some experience with the sort of technology I'm trying to re-create here, so I'd be honored if you'd assist I, and the others helping me in making Cerebro a reality. I've had the chance to discuss the idea with Fred, and she seems to be on board, and I've contacted Dr. Ray Stantz, asking for his help as well. If there's anyone else either of you can think of who could help, by all means, don't hesitate to let me know.

[/Filter]

[With all of those filters out of the way, Charles can be found on the roof, gazing out at the town, getting his first bit of fresh air since his brief detention during the castle's brief lockout.]

Is anyone else as curious as I am as to how the castle was so thoroughly rearranged? I'm not complaining or anything, I just think it would have been a fascinating procedure to watch. Has anything like this happened before?

[Yuan's room looks almost pleasant, in its own way. It's a bustling military-type base, full of soldiers. The soldiers are all dressed in identical uniforms, including helmets that cover most of their faces, so it's hard to tell one from another. The atmosphere is content enough, neither grim nor idyllic, but with a faint sense of camaraderie. Some of the walls of the base seem to be cracked or crumbled, and the soldiers will prevent anyone coming too close to the damaged areas - if you can get past them, you might be in for a nasty shock.

Yuan isn't in right now, but there's an avatar of himself in a well-decorated office in the base. There's also a heavily-guarded door down one dark corridor, which requires security clearance to pass through.]

[Filtered against those who mean harm to the residents or townsfolk]

Regardless of your level of involvement, most of you have probably noticed the commotion that's been going on for the past several weeks. A great threat to the castle and the town has been taken care of, by all our combined capabilities. This is an important first step in asserting control over our lives here, but there are many more to come. We now have prisoners whose disposition must be decided, fairly and in accordance with everyone's safety. The threat of those who live beyond the borders of the powered zone is quite real. And of course, there is the castle itself, whose true nature we don't fully understand even though some of us have lived here nearly five years.

The Peace Patrol is a castle organization intended to help organize and protect residents and townsfolk from threats, both native to this world and not. If you have an interest in joining, please respond here with your name, your profession back home, and any skills you have that you feel might be useful.

This is Yuan. A young man and I have found another place where cityfolk have been...kept. I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart or stomach. [He gives the location.] It's a barn, and the bodies are in the cellar, undisturbed for anyone who wants to have a look.

Any of you from worlds that are based in technology: do you have a word besides "magic" for energy manipulation based in ritual and patterns? If it even exists in your world, have you simply studied and analyzed it to the point where you're calling it something else now?

And those of you with worlds that have more magic than tech: Has anyone ever tried to study your world's magic rigorously, to define where it comes from and what makes it work? To use that potential power source in innovative ways? If so, what were the results? If not, why not?

Surely mine can't be the only world where magic and science are not considered to be completely separate concepts.

[Filtered away from anyone who doesn't have the best interests of the residents at heart]

[The following is carefully and clearly written into the journal:]

Attention, people of Paradisa:

Many of you have probably noticed by now, the castle is not always kind, and neither are your fellow residents. While it's true that Paradisa has generally been, somewhat of necessity, a functional anarchy, there are those who have the castle's general safety at heart. The Peace Patrol was founded in its second year, and is currently in the process of reorganizing for efficiency. We are now officially opening up to new recruits.

Responsibilities:

Peace Patrol members are expected to know escape routes, help police the castle, grounds, and City Royale on a regular basis, and keep a cool enough head to assist both residents and, if necessary, cityfolk in a crisis. They may also be called upon to organize others if the situation requires a set of skills that they possess.

You will be provided with a magitech communication device [actually, it's only tech, but just try reminding Yuan of that for the hundredth time] and meetings will be scheduled monthly. Rules and regulations for dealing with any disturbances will also be provided when you join.

New recruits will go through a thirty-day probationary period, during which you will patrol alongside those who have already been with the Patrol, and you will not have full access to our databanks. After that time, you will be considered a full member of the Patrol, and more than likely assigned to patrol alongside newer recruits.

If you are interested in joining us, please provide the following information:

Name:
Profession at home:
Supernatural abilities, if any:
Fighting capabilities, if any - include preferred weapons:
Other skills, knowledge, and/or traits that might be of value:

[Anyone who signs up will get a copy of this information delivered to their door, along with their Peaceberry.]

[added in later, because he forgot it:] My name is Yuan, and if you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
