What: A medieval man in a casino. This can only end well.
When: Second day of Diwali, fuck yeah
Where: Ballroom-turned-casino

Sir Gwaine is going to punch Allen Walker.

The temperatures have taken a very noticeable downturn so wandering out shirtless is not a very good idea lately. However, neither does he want to stay in the house overlong. Gwaine + work ≠ happy and work is what Arthur has been piling on after the braining and kidnapping fiasco.

Unfortunately for him, the only clothes left in the house today were these. Or so Allen a little too cheerfully informed him before basically shoving the shirt over Gwaine's head.

Yep. Gwaine is going to punch Allen. But that'll have to wait. The foreign sound and lights of slot machines are doing a very good job of distracting him right now.

Who: Jo and the people she invites to stay with her.
Where: Her house which is also the Continuing Hope Art Gallery
When: Sunday - Monday - Tuesday (all three days can get clumped into this one post. Just put the day in your subject!)
What: Duh. People have been locked out of the castle. This is because of that.
Notes: Sunday, we will assume she invited people in their own journals or they knew they had a standing invitation to stay if things went crazy. Those people, I've oocly contacted. On Monday, she will be making a journal entry opening up space in the gallery. She didn't want to do it if it was just a one-day thing. So if you want your character to get some CR with Jo, or anyone you see tagging into this post - feel free to throw a Monday or a Tuesday up in this post and direct someone toward it! You can reply to their comment with an OOC note or just send them a PM. None of us bite and we want more CR! -- also -- 3rd person narrative OR [commentspam] are okay by me.

It was... weird. Well, not as weird as hearing that before she had arrived in the castle no one had been actually "arriving" for a month. That had been around Christmas, nearly two years ago, and that was when apparently people were moving to the city convinced that they were 'from' the city. So far, it didn't sound like the stories she'd heard from those days. If anything this just felt like the castle was having her time of the month and didn't want anyone to touch her.

Or, maybe the castle was tired of everyone saying that it was a horrible place to be. The damn thing seemed to have a mind of its own, why not feelings too? Whatever was wrong with it, there were leaves piled up, people stuck outside and a lot of residents not feeling exactly welcome in a place that had kidnapped them.

That was the most ironic thought of the day.

Jo had a few friends that she knew would show up if they needed a place to crash, so she spent most of the early morning hours making sure she had clean towels and that the pull-out couch had clean sheets on it. Lucky for anyone staying with her, she'd gone grocery shopping the other day -- it had been on her list of things to do along with the inventory for the Lux -- and so her fridge was just fine. Besides, she assumed that this wasn't going to be a week-long thing.

Well, she hoped it wasn't going to be a week-long thing.

For the moment, Jo was just wondering what she was going to do with her time. It had been a while since she'd had a day off from the Lux. Not since... before the pirates. When her bar was destroyed. Man, she really hopes her bar isn't destroyed.

Who: Jo Harvelle Max Guevara, Alaric Saltzman -- and SOMEONE?
Where: Corner booth at the Lux.
When: Late, a bit before/after closing. Mostly after this conversation with Sam.
What: Drinking. Lots of drinking and feeling like shit.
Note: ANYONE is welcome. PROSE or [SPAM] is a-okay with me.

It wasn't as if she hadn't considered things with her and Sam different, but she never thought of it as weird. She never wanted to be something Sam could just discard like that. Everything, everything she'd been through - that he'd been through... she just thought that he was getting better. Maybe better was glossing it over too much.

Jo's hand moved to cup to the glass she'd emptied, staring at the ridges at the bottom of the glass. Her other hand grabbed the bottle, nearly half-way empty by now, as she poured herself another drink.

If she wanted to get technical, really get down to the line, she had died for them. She had stayed behind so that they could get a run at Lucifer and then it didn't even work. Her mom died and it was for nothing. If anything it should be weird for her to be around them. Sam had been possessed and tortured her. She forgave him and they moved on.

Maybe being with him had been a mistake from the start. She knew that getting in with Dean would've been a ticking time bomb, but maybe that was what she needed. Maybe she needed something that had an expiration date so that when things got too difficult she could just pull the cord and be done with it. Then things could go back to the way they were.

Really, that's all she wanted. Things to be normal. Years of the road, of the hunt, of being alone or being the one left behind -- all she wanted was something that was stable. For the first time ever and what did she have? Something 'weird' with her ex, who she still considered her friend, another friend avoiding her because something was going on that he didn't feel like telling her -- and whatever it was had cut off the random fun things they had been doing when they weren't just hanging out and drinking.

What was her problem? Really. What had she done in her life that had made her this messed up when it came to relationships? Her folks managed to work out the hunt and the married thing. Her mom didn't really so much as look at another man after William passed. Yet here she was, last chance to have anything and she had nothing.

Nothing except this bottle of Jack and another empty glass.

Pouring another drink, she figured it was a start.

Does anyone else feel slightly... disconnected? I know that I live in the city and that I spend most my time going between here and the Lux, but I really feel like I haven't talked to people in a while.

Do I smell?

[She's teasing. She hopes!]

If anyone wants to get together this weekend for bowling or mini golf, I am completely prepared to kick all your asses. [Except any hunters...]

Where: The Lux
When: ICE CREAM TIME (anytime from 10AM to 2AM tomorrow)
What: Jo leaves work late/late last night and realizes what the castle's deal might be. In the morning she figures she can help make the ice cream a bit more "social". Get it? Ice cream -- socials? Booths will have different sets of toppings. Tag/threadjack into a booth or make your own thread! You can even have your character BRING THEIR OWN TOPPINGS and make their own booth! ANYONE IS WELCOME. Jo will talk to everyone.

[The ice cream is oddly... well, castle-like is a bit broad, but Jo knows that when the castle gives you hallways lined with pies, you eat the pie. Now though, with so many different flavors of ice cream, she's thinking this could be an interesting way to get to know some complete strangers.

What better way to find out something new about a resident than discovering it in a bite of ice cream?

This morning, when Jo gets to the Lux she sets most the staff to cutting and preparing fresh fruits, chopped nuts, syrups, fudges, anything and everything that could possibly work with ice cream. If you want to put it on your ice cream and it's not there, it's just a wish or request from one of the staff members away.

Bowls and spoons stack up at the booths, tables and along the bar. It seems like every single bowl that was ever in the bar itself has been brought out for the event. It might be short notice, but Jo figures everyone is used to the castle throwing them curve balls. Preparing doesn't happen very often.]

I'm sure this is going to sound pretty crazy, but how many of us are still here that were here around Christmas? There was a talking cat and everyone that was here got a crystal. With all these people going home, I'm just curious what happens to all of those?

I know some of them have turned up in other people's hands, I know I've ended up with a handful of them. [Which she's given to Oliver for his projects.]

I mean, they're sort of a valuable resource... we should be keeping better track of them, right?

[There's a soft sigh as she moves to clear off another table at the Lux]

By the way - I'm still hiring people for help at the Lux.

There was an idea of a cooking competition for the head chef position, but I'm not even sure how many people here can cook in a restaurant-style kitchen - let alone if they'd want to work here. Still, it could be an interesting thing to watch.

Jo had asked both of them to come into the gallery in the morning, so she'd gotten up a bit earlier than usual to do a quick glance through all the pieces that were still hanging. Most of them she was familiar with, having been in the gallery for the time before the whole pirate-thing happened. There were still a couple that she didn't realize had been hung up, but sometimes that just was the case when you trusted people from the town to help you out.

Now she was sipping on a cup of coffee, leaning against a stool as she waited for either of them to show up. Hopefully, things would work out and this would be a smooth transition. She knew Nora enough to trust her with her old apartment, but Joshua was someone she'd just met. For a moment she wondered if she should've checked with Jilly, but this wasn't Jilly's responsibility and Joshua seemed to want to do this. It was almost amusing to think that she could find two people for the gallery in a day, but couldn't manage to find people to work in the Lux for the life of her.

Glancing at the clock on the wall, she assumed someone would show up soon.

[Dictated over the journal (though anyone in the Lux will also hear her saying it):]

Anyone that's been wondering when the Lux is gonna open back up, I have an answer for you. Today! Today it's back to... sort of what it was before.

The castle must've finished the repairs while we were all on board those ships. The graffiti though, from while we were gone, we cleaned that by hand and fixed the rest of the minor things that had been done by whoever was messing the castle up.

[She shakes her head, making a soft sound] Sorry, I'm sure most of you don't care how it got fixed, as long as it's fixed.

One thing, at least for the time being, is that I don't have a cook. I can do most the easy stuff, but for today I'm actually going to call a "Grilling Only" rule. If the calendar I keep is right - it's the Fourth and no one in their right mind actually cooks on a stove today.

As long as I can stick it on the grill, you can order it.

[there's the sound of light tapping, the tip of her ring finger hitting the surface of the bartop]

Oh! Before I forget, is there anyone in the castle that knows a lot about art, has some free time, needs a job, and can easily get to the city?

[Well, apparently this isn't a mess that she can just clean up in an hour. She's tried.]

I'm not sure what happened in here last night, but I think at this point I can just call time of death.

The Lux is closed, official time of death... [she glances at her watch] Seven forty-seven in the morning on June sixteenth. Unless this is a leap year -- or Paradisa doesn't run on the same calendar as Earth.

Either way, this sort of destruction usually means there are probably a few people really bleeding somewhere. So - whoever did this -- I hope you know that I'm adding the damage to your tab.

[she exhales and scoots the one table back against the wall... which makes the wall fall over.]

I'm okay! I'm okay.

[ugh.]

[There was an extra set of keys paired up with her usual set the other morning and after a long shift at the Lux and another today, Jo went to check on Eliot. He just wasn't there to be checked up on.]

Seems all I've done lately is let people know that someone else went back home.

Anyone that knew Eliot Spencer, he's gone back to Boston... back to his home.

The Lux'll still be open. I think it's just fine for me to take over.

Drinks are on the house tonight... [there's a beat] I won't even be counting how many get served.

[it's a little after midnight when Sam comes back to his room from the library, looking to just have a beer and crash into bed. When he actually gets there to open the door to his room, however, what he sees is ... not what he was expecting.

For starters, Dean is gone.

And to finish, there's a very familiar blond little girl sitting with Alice on the floor playing with her fur. When she looks up, it's all sunshine, and light.]

[It was slightly laughable that Jo had made plans to pick up her dog over the weekend and then... the weekend turned into crazy comic book castle. There was also the one extra person staying with her. She thought he would've filtered to her -- bitched about how thought bubbles didn't mean she couldn't come get her dog. She even heard him trying to start up something with that vampire hunter last night, but there wasn't anything filtered to her. Rather than over think it, she just headed to their room before her shift at the Lux. She was smiling and near laughter when she walked into the room, but when she saw that it was just her room and that the dog was sitting in the middle of it, whining a bit, all of that faded.]

C'mere. [She crouches low and beckons the dog toward her as she pulls out her journal] It's okay.

[Jo lets her fingers scratch to the dog's ear as she tries not to get too upset. She mostly mumbles to herself:]

Who does he think he is? Leaving twice now. If he thinks -- [she stops herself when she sees Max's entry about Ben. She'll talk to her once she gets to work. When she reaches an empty page, she starts to dictate:]

Chase... [she shakes her head] Robert Chase's gone, too. Gone home, I mean. If he was supposed to be in the clinic today, someone might want to go cover his shift.

[she takes a soft inhale of air and then closes the journal against her finger, holding the book open in case someone talks to her while she walks toward the Lux. She'll be there most of the day, with the dog, if anyone wants to drop by.]

[Away from Jilly]

I'd like to make a final push for this weekend. I want to get the gallery done and ready to open on Sunday if possible. If it's not possible, then I'm going to shoot for next Saturday.

Right now, all I've got left to do is the detail work and then getting art to actually hang.

I've got a few of Jilly's pieces, but if anyone else has any they'd like to loan, I'd appreciate it.

Also - hands to help with the clean-up and finishing hanging things and painting over the spots where I slipped and got color on the ceiling.

[there's a pause, as she takes a breath]

I just want her to have something good come from this month and the sooner I can show her -- I think it'll help.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
