[And once again, it is noon on meeting day in Patrol headquarters. There's a big open meeting room space, tables in the middle, a projector on the ceiling, computers in the walls. It is shiny, high-tech, clean, and full of a lot more people than last time. Yuan is already here before anyone else arrives, getting papers laid out and shuffled around. He seems tense, but satisfied. Things are finally coming together.]

Re: Riful

Riful has ... well. The situation with her is obviously quite complicated, but we may have something that will buy us time. I've been trying to negotiate with her, for some months now, and while she's taken advantage of that ... I refuse to let it become a weakness.

[he breathes in slowly, waiting for permission to elaborate. this is going to take some time to explain, and he's prepared for it not to go well]

[Allen's expression and tone turns harsh. He hasn't forgotten about the Robin thing...but he knows he needs more proof that he can share before he can reveal that little tidbit or no one will listen. Either way, he's skeptical of any plan that does not have the phrase "kill Riful dead" in it]

What sort of negotiations?

[identity profile] variare.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ listening because...he had no idea the doctor was doing that. D< ]

Well ... first of all, I owe everyone gathered here an apology, for going ahead on something like this on my own. I had thought that perhaps, I could find a solution without causing any further harm ... that's always been my goal. Always. I'm sure most of you who know me are well aware.

... Earlier in the year, I approached Riful privately, and asked if it were possible for her to survive on a food source alternate to human slaughter. [he's said it before today, to a few people, but even so, the words are still thick in his mouth. murder is never, ever an easy subject] She said that there was some quality unique to human bodies that brought her the necessary sustenance, so I ... started researching alternatives, tried to find out what, exactly, the quality might be. Some combination of enzymes, certainly, not found in other living creatures like the strange buffalo of the Dead Zone, or other easily obtainable protein sources ...

[he knows he's rambling, burying himself in science so that he'll feel more comfortable, and forces himself to stop.]

[after a short, soft sigh, he continues. nothing for it. they deserve to know]

I collaborated with a scientist in the castle, for a while - a geneticist ...but the castle put him on a sort of loss, and he was unavailable for quite a long time, so I was left to my own devices again - but not before we'd had a breakthrough of sorts: the idea of using stem cells to recreate viable human organs, separate of a living host. ... It's a crude analogy, but it's rather like the concept of burgers made of vegetables. Comparable sustenance without the needless slaughter. ... Using some blood samples kept at hand in the clinic, I was able to extract necessary genetic material, and create the results I was looking for. In return, I made Riful give her word that she would harm no one else ... and while my trust may have proven misplaced, my intentions are still true.

[identity profile] cricketycricket.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I contacted Riful and told her I'd finished my end of our bargain, and she arranged to have someone meet me at a predisclosed location between her manor and the castle proper. She didn't trust me to come all the way to her, and I suppose it's fair enough, as I wouldn't allow her to set foot within the TARDIS, myself. ... What I didn't expect was her method of messenger. I didn't know that she had enlisted Legato Bluesummers as a sort of ... attache.

He sent one of the missing townspeople out to meet me and retrieve the samples I'd prepared. I only relinquished them on the terms that he return the man unharmed ... so far, he has honored those terms, but .... I have very little faith in either of their promises, now.

I know what some of you will say - that I was a fool for even thinking I could enter into such a bargain. That such brash optimism in the face of cruelty and violence is a naive thing to do ... and that I may very well have given Riful another nail to drive into the coffin of our resistance. But in answer, let me say this: I refuse to even begin to believe that it can be buried. Optimism is the greatest weapon we have against someone of her kind, as well as compassion - as she does not understand them. I had hoped that there might be some semblance of humanity in her, but the only thing she possesses is animal cunning and terrible, terrible cruelty. This bargain I attempted was a way to sound that out, to know her true face - and now that it is known, I can move forward with a clearer conscience than I could if I had simply blindly begun to lash out with violence against violence.

Also, we can turn this to our advantage - should we manage to capture Riful again, we will have a means of sustaining her ... which, at this point, I would not put past drugging in order to attempt to control her habits and her movements. But she does respond at least marginally to civility, even if she does not necessarily return it in kind.

I've put my foot in the door - and while I may have walked into something terribly unsavory ... I intend to walk out the other side with some manner of success. But I know now, not to do it again alone. We've some fantastically brilliant people here among us, today - and my greatest mistake lay in not involving you from the start.

[with that, he sighs, and waits for the judging to start]

[identity profile] variare.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ while listening to the doctor, it's hard for jr. to stay quiet during that whole speech. he can partially understand the sentiment, especially when it's the sort of view MOMO might take on the whole thing.

still, he's pretty pissed the doctor went ahead and did all this without letting anyone know until now, and it's pretty blatant in his tone when he speaks up ]

Are you joking? That crazy skank craves violence, no matter how polite she can act at random intervals. Did you see how mangled Allen and the others were when she kept them in her basement? That was blatant torture. And what about the sheer number of people she's slaughtered here?

Even if you tried offering her a different form of sustenance, I can't see it lasting for long. She's not an animal you can tame just to keep the peace. She'd go out of control before long, I guarantee it.

I vote dragging the bitch out to the Dead Zone and cutting her head off, but since I know that's not the way we do things here, there is just the option of locking her in the Dead Zone. That way she'll be normal, and shouldn't even crave humans. She won't have super strength, so keeping her locked up should be easy. Then you can try whatever form of rehabilitation you want if you think it'll help.

Of course that's all pointless spitballing until we actually get our hands on her and her gal pals. [ yes he means arthas and legato, suck it ]

[LANGUAGE, JUNIOR, GOODNESS. Five saw this sort of thing coming, though, he really did - he would have thought less of the Patrol if it didn't happen, in all honesty]

Containing her would be our best option, yes, but there's still the matter of how. You're absolutely right. I suppose what we need are ideas.

[identity profile] save-the-souls.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[his arms are crossed and he's looking extremely furious at the Doctor. Allen is all for compassion...but he has limits. Limits that Riful long since passed after torturing Teresa and Crowley, after eating all those townspeople and after realizing that she is the most likely suspect to have caused Robin's disappearance. He mutters.]

Honestly at this point I don't see what's wrong with cutting off her head in the Dead Zone.

[identity profile] variare.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ heard that bro, and giving allen a surprised look. not often they agree on that particular matter. he'll address yuan though ]

Jeez, can't the Farmboy just kick her into the Dead Zone? I bet he could do it.

[ i mean, MAYBE she would die upon landing but...who cares. ahem ]

Being able to doesn't mean I should, and because of the risks posed to her, I mostly definitely shouldn't.

[He shakes his head.]

I'd vote containing her in the Dead Zone. If we can set up an outpost there, we can set up a prison.

[identity profile] variare.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ no yuan. PLAN A FOREVER. you both are clearly buzz kills, even if he was 40% joking. watching clark kick riful into space would just make us damn day ] ]

I'd say you're still a good option if we're going to pick someone who can go toe-to-tentacle with her. Maybe you could knock her out.

[identity profile] save-the-souls.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
[this one meanwhile gives a look at Clark but bites his tongue on what he really wants to say. YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT THE RISKS TO THAT MONSTER BITCH REALLY? ]

Knocking her out would work, or luring her into the Dead Zone. Her living so close to it could be beneficial.

[identity profile] cricketycricket.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Five shoots Clark a grateful look. THANK YOU for being someone else who isn't all about the bloodshed.]

Also, if we need something to keep Legato out of harm's way while we contain her ... the TARDIS and I could handle him.

[He catches Allen's eyes momentarily but ignores the look. His eyes rove around the room, trying to gather what everyone else is thinking of this discussion, and his eyes linger on his wife-to-be (who seldom gets to see him involved in these things) and land on the Doctor. The Doctor's right, too -- Clark nods at that.]

I'd take Riful. Legato and I are a bad match for obviously reasons if he took control of me. I doubt I'd be too useful with Arthas, either, recalling what happened last time I dealt with possessed swords.

[identity profile] variare.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ stretches his arms behind his head ]

Well so far we know about Arthas and Legato, but Ino's right, she could have more. Unfortunately we don't really have the option of working recon to learn what other allies she might have without taking serious risk. One of them'd be able to sense us a mile off.

I'd probably be better suited helping subdue Legato, since I'm pretty sure he can't take control of me, but I'll go where I'm needed.

[identity profile] cricketycricket.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
And I'm sure Sylvanas will be able to assist us with Arthas, as well ... we've plenty of hands and minds willing to the task. I don't think we need to worry about that.

[identity profile] loisfuckinglane.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lois just listens to all this at first, her mind wrapped up in her own encounters with "Robyn" and the possibility that it really is Riful] If we build a jail in the Dead Zone, someone's going to have to be monitoring it. I don't trust locking up our most dangerous out there, where outsiders could stumble upon them, and as much as I'm not Riful's biggest fan, we don't want the First Gens thinking we're shoving her out there to become their problem. That's not going to improve relations with them.
ino: (Bored/talking.)

[personal profile] ino 2011-06-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really want to mess with them either, but how can we contain her if she still has her powers? Some of us have already seen how ridiculously overpowered she is. Just throwing her in a cell in the basement isn't going to do anything.

As for recon ... it's possible, but too risky, at this point.

[identity profile] variare.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Unless there's some way to continuously drain her energy source, the Dead Zone seems like the best option. I dunno, maybe starving her weakens her. I don't know if it'd actually kill her.

But there's always an issue with other power houses trying to break her out. The same goes for Legato and Arthas when we get ahold of them. It's happened before, remember?

Honestly, we already have an outpost in the Dead Zone, and the First Gens haven't complained about that. If we can build some sort of prison system right next to it, near the border, we wouldn't be encroaching on their territory anymore than we already have.

It's easy for us to get out there with the teleporter, so making sure someone is always on guard isn't difficult. This is what we're about, isn't it? No offense but I'm not gonna pussy foot around just because the guys out there are intent on boxing us in.
supes: (concerned ⋙ mulling things over)

[personal profile] supes 2011-06-05 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Putting her out there wouldn't necessarily be a threat to them –– after all, she'd be powerless. Isn't she physically a little girl when she's powerless, anyway?

[he shakes his head]

Legato and Arthas would be powerless, too, and possibly without much experience fighting without those powers. They'd be handicapped.
