The castle looks really nice right now, but um... what is it celebrating, exactly? I only really know about Halloween, but... um, isn't that not for another few days?

Um... b-but it's all really pretty, though I don't know if I could wear these clothes all the time...

[Speaking of 'these clothes', Homura can be found wearing something like this today, as she walks around the castle, admiring the decorations.]

[ that done, she's going to dictate into the journal. if it sounds like she's reading from an encyclopaedia, it's because she is. B) ]

"Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, held in the period October to November, to celebrate the new season at the end of the monsoon. It is particularly associated with Lakshmi, the Goddess of Prosperity, and marks the beginning of the financial year in India. It is the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia, and in South Asian communities around the world. The festival of Diwali extends over five days. Because of the lights, fireworks and sweets involved, it's a great favourite with children. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

On this auspicious day, people light up diyas and candles all around their house. They perform Lakshmi Puja in the evening and seek divine blessings of Goddess of Wealth. The festival of Diwali is never complete without exchange of gifts. People present Diwali gifts to all near and dear ones."

[ and here is the sound of a heavy book shutting. ]

The more you know!

Can I say that I am loving this? Because I am really, really loving this. The clothes are almost too gorgeous to believe, and all the colours and lights and decorations just make me feel so happy and carefree! And those fireworks were amazing! Even Iggy and the Gasman would've been impressed. If we're skipping out on Halloween for this, I seriously don't mind.

[ nudge is in the lobby, rocking a purple and green shalwar. she's sitting on the floor, painting. feel free to bother her. :) ]

[ ooc; filter names sure are hidden! i myself have forgotten who knows how much about nudge, so go ahead and answer to which ever one fits your character. ♥! ]

[Hank's in the library - again! - reading (or trying to, anyway) a book. Yet he looks anxious as he eyes his journal.]

...So.

Who among you have yet to discover what your loss first was when you arrived here? Surely I'm not the only one.

You know, while Smallville’s busy being momentarily out of his mind, I can’t help but think about what the castle gets out of making us look like idiots every once in awhile. Is it just to prove that it can? Its idea of showing who's got the power, waving around the big stick so we don’t forget that for all our superheroes or angels or God Almighty himself running around here, we’re not the ones running this show?

It isn’t as if the castle or whatever’s behind it couldn’t keep us in a constant state of confusion and chaos, if that’s what it’s trying to get out of this. Instead it prefers pulling the rug out from us every time we think we can count on something.  I mean, even the little things like… like where are rooms are and what this place looks like.  What we have to wear every day.  The second we start to think anything's going to be there the next day, or that we've gotten a handle on this place, bam.  They're just gone, and everything you poured into them doesn't even matter anymore, because back home they aren't even going to remember a thing about you.

[Deep breath.

Oh.

That went somewhere unexpected.

She sighs, a little guilty and embarrassed by the outburst, and by the tiny quaver that had worked itself into her voice]
... Not where I was going with this.

I guess there are just a lot of people I still miss, and Claire being gone's really .... drove it home.  But it's not like I want them to end up trapped here again.  And it's not like they would even be the same, not when they didn't recall anything you'd been through together.  Giving someone the old "Hi!  You don't know me, but you used to be like a sister to me" talk is always the most awkward way to start off any conversation.

... I wonder if it's doing that on purpose.  Trying to keep us isolated inside by teaching us the hard way about letting people in over and over.

Well, you know what, castle?

Too bad.  I've lived that creed before, and I've already learned that that's no way to live.  And you're not going to make me care any less about the people here just by playing your stupid games.

So deal with it.

I must say, I'm a little [disappointed] surprised nothing's come and attacked yet. Or at the least come to life to be annoying.

Halloween is only a few days away, so I suppose there is still time for something to happen... it's never too late for monsters, hmm? Perhaps the castle's saving it all for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Although it's been very... pretty, lately. Not bad. A shame celebrations at home were never this way.

The days of Hallow's End soon come to a close back in my homeworld, and the spirit of the Headless Horseman can rest once more.

Paradisa also seems to have quite interesting holidays. I have heard of 'Halloween' several times, and it seems quite similar to Hallow's End. But it does not seem universal.

What is your world's most popular holiday?

[Still collecting, this one. Noz will be around - sometimes in several places at once - if anyone wants to run in to a shirtless elf.]

[Will is wandering through the courtyard, dressed in the simplest outfit he found in his closet and looking about himself with bright curiosity.  After some time he finds a seat and begins to muse aloud.]

I've been thinking a lot about the time of year recently.  The old Celts believed that there were only two seasons, you know.  The season of Light and the season of darkness.  Summer and winter.  It's interesting that we should celebrate a festival of lights now, don't you think?

Once, this was the time of year when they held the festival where one changed into another.  Samhain, they called it.

Well, that was what they believed in the old days.  I wager most of it is forgotten now.

[Percy is still trying to piece things together. The changes to the ghosts don't help much. He stands in the hallway, trying in vain to talk with them. Turns out he forgot the journal conveniently records all conversations]

So what's going on here? Are you all Lares? Why are you away from camp? [naturally, the ghost doesn't answer him] And what's with those cows? Are they from, um... Juno? Hello?
[identity profile] sir-durge.livejournal.com
[Sir Durge does not trust the magical, talking book. Not one bit. He isn't very comfortable with magic to start off with, but this object does not seem like any he's encountered before. In the very least he is mildly certain it isn't sorcery. But what did he know? He was just a knight.

That said, he wasn't where he was supposed to be, and this book was his only clue towards any real answers.

So after a minute of rather bewildered paging through the tome he clears his throat and speaks into it, a low and somber register dictated in bold letters into the journal.
]

I do not know by what sort of magic I have been brought to this place, but if you think kidnapping me will stop Lady Grace's army from reaching Imbrifale, you are mistaken. Her mission is of more import that the life of one knight.

[His only regret is that he has managed to fail her by allowing this to happen. It was his duty to stand at her side no matter the risk.]

[ Kainé doesn't care much about Diwali; she doesn't even know what it is for starters. Even if she did, she doesn't want to wear whatever this fucking castle gave her or play with the stupid lanterns or have a fucking party. They're still fucking prisoners in a stupid castle she doesn't care about. She doesn't want to pretend like everything is nice. She doesn't care if allegedly she'll be back home soon and no time has passed -- she can't understand that. She can't believe it. She can't process this. She can't -- can't fight this. So she's fled to the courtyard again, pacing. Outside is more comfortable for her, away from people. It's what she's used to. Her journal is thrown down on the ground -- she doesn't even know why she'd picked it up, some lingering hope it might give her an answer eventually.

Kainé paces, hands gripping onto her upper arms as she tries to think. Rehashes all her ideas. Reforms plans, plans that she's tried before. Again and again.

It's hopeless -- and you know what? Maybe she should just accept it. Pausing mid-pace, she tightens her fingers down harder into the bandages wrapped up around her left arm. She doesn't want to, but she's running out of options.

No, not accept it. But not let it win. Not let it make her play these dumb fucking games. Her fingers work under a layer of bandage and she hesitates a moment -- then starts to pull it off. It unravels, curling onto the ground and revealing -- just plain skin. Nothing worth hiding, to anyone who doesn't know her. Her shade is gone. She stands a moment, clutching the bandage in her hand -- flexing her grip on it, adrenaline pumping. Then, she hurls it. Slices at it with her swords -- slams a blade into the tree nearby, turns and rip it out to strike them against the wall of the castle.

She doesn't do anything halfway, and now that she's starting eventing her anger she isn't going to stop until she's done.

[Over the journal, voice.]

"As an avid pursuer of strength, I find myself curious regarding others opinions on the subject. Keeping an open mind, is of course, the key to expanding your horizons on subjects that interest you.

Therefore, to those who hear this, I'd like to ask you; what do you consider to be true strength? If you actively pursue it like myself, I'd also be interested to hear why you do, though I understand some may not be as open as myself about such things, so feel free to avoid it if you wish."

[Kintaros-possessed Ryotaro is just sort of hanging around the lobby, sitting cross-legged on the floor, although he's not exactly dressed appropriately for the Diwali situation.]

WHO Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and YOU!
WHAT Wes has been seriously injured and recovers at the clinic and at home.
WHERE Paradisa castle clinic and Wes' residence in town.
WHEN Backdated from Oct 25th through the week.
NOTES Wes will be at the clinic 25th/26th and will be home from 27th. Will create subthreads, but feel free to create your own. Prose and action spam both welcome. Fred will be pretty much a constant fixture at Wes' side.
WARNINGS PG at most.

After six hours he wakes up again. Everything is a blur and his head throbs painfully, He's told that he has fractured ribs and a concussion and he's not well enough to be discharged yet. Well, that much is obvious. He sleeps quite a bit and feels bad that he can't remember a thing from the past day or so. It's troubling when people ask him what happened and he can't tell them.

Time passes in a way that he can't keep track of. At some point he ends up back home again. That means he's better, right?

The only constant is Fred. He's grateful for that. But frustrated that reading is too difficult. He's allowed visitors, which is a good thing, else he might have gone a bit batty by now.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
