Morning!

[Jack is sounding rather chipper, despite having a strange morning. Whenever he sleeps, he knows something odd is going around, and he wasn't disappointed this time. Waking up on a ship in a place he hadn't seen before is just the change of pace he's been needing. The castle was getting a bit boring, no offense.]

So, did anyone else wake up on a ship this morning?

[ There are few things more frightening than being in a huge battle...and having to worry more about the rocking and shaking of the boat when your only means of existence is a fragile glass flask that you are incapable of touching. Which meant that for the whole ordeal Amoretta's had to stay in her cabin, holding all her pillows around it as best she can to keep it from being upset )8

It's beyond exhausting work--so with a faint note of uncertainty in her voice she at least tries to call out now that danger is passed; ]

[funny thing about the decks of ships-- there is wind. The kind that blows journals open, allowing the unmistakable sound of someone retching overboard to carry across the pages.

Very early in the morning.
You're all welcome for the wake-up call.

Legato hasn't moved much since the battle with the Sea Queen... primarily because he hasn't been able to leave the railing for more than a few minutes at a time with the way his stomach has been roiling. ...He may have spent most of the night there, in fact. Over at some quiet section of the ship, leaning miserably over the railing, his infamous coat left behind in some forgotten corner below-deck. Dead-eyed and pale.

...He is finding that oceans aren't quite so interesting, anymore

Has anyone seen a brown Labrador? He's pretty big with a name tag. [ If he's not around, maybe he got lucky and got left in the castle? If he's still a dog, anyway ]

I've heard of a few people being changed to human too, but what about powers? Has anyone lost anything? You can filter it too if you'd prefer.

I've never really been on a boat before. I've flown over the ocean but being on it's different. It's quite nice.

[Even after watching the sunrise on a beautiful island, Brennan does not look so pleased. She sits on the steps of her bungalow, skimming through the journal as she looks for something specific.

When she does not find it, she scowls.]

I am thankful that these journals are still functioning, wherever we may be now. But I am not pleased with having been transported against my will again. I have responsibilities back in Paradisa that I cannot afford to be taken away from.

[Namely, she's concerned with the decomposing bodies she left in the make-shift lab room attached to her quarters in the castle. And the progress of the actual lab space Booth had surprised her with earlier in the week.]

[Booth]

Where are you?

[She looks as if she's about to close the journal at that point when she changes her mind.]

Has anyone seen Special Agent Seeley Booth? I... am concerned that he is not on the cruise ship, or anywhere on this island.

[Over all? Amelia is not enjoying her introduction to Paradisa a single bit. The idea that's she's been snatched from not just her motel room, but her entire world is bad enough. But she's also struggling to walk on something called a ship, without having to stop every five minutes to heave over the railing or into a bucket. The ocean may be pretty, but that's about all it's good for as far as she's concerned.

Below decks though, she finds something interesting. Some book with her name on it, and she starts flipping through just to figure out what this is.

It doesn't help much. But it does trigger it to start recording.

While I don't mind ships or sailing, it's a little disconcerting being dropped on to one with no idea of where you're heading. Besides that, only a few people here are adept at running a ship. [She exhales a little.] I suppose we should be grateful for those we do have.

[Before doing anything else today, Alleyne is chewing on a fresh lime. She's a bit dehydrated; as to be expected with a hangover, and a bit of juice and tartness should cut the edge off of that. She tears off a little bite of seedy pulp for Jaina!bird, who's still sitting on her ear, happy as can be.

While she's snacking, she takes out her journal and writes a quick note.

[After that, she can be found on deck, practicing her swordplay and adjusting her movements to the waves and her lack of depth perception. She's doing fancy twirling movements with the handle and whatnot. It's been a long time since she used a sword, but she was quick to adapt and a deft hand with a bladed or bludgeoning weapon.

As she does this, she begins to speak.
]

For those of you that don't know me, I am the Alleyne that Captain Isabela spoke of. If you don't know, I am a combat instructor. I was back home, I am at the castle, and I shall continue my work here. We're going to need to fine-tune your swordhands strong and quick if we expect to survive if our encounters yesterday are any indication. We don't know how long we'll be here, so it's best that everyone learns how to at least wield a blade properly. Swords have less reach than guns or cannons, but they also require no ammunition, and there is plenty more of them to go around than bullets.

If you already know, there is room for improvement. Please, for the love of gods, keep your skills sharp out here. If you have never fought before, know I am competent but strict. Even if you're a medic, you'll need basic training. Even if you are a child, you're going to need it. I've taught countless children back home and here; you'll do fine. I'm open for classroom structure teaching, one on one sparring, and setting up duels and practice between you all.

Kitty, you're with me as my assistant again. If anyone needs help learning how to fire a gun, I know Booth is quite adept at it, if he'd like to be another assistant. If anyone else wants to help on that end, by all means, assist me in teaching.

That is all.

[Back to swordswinging and shadowboxing.]

[While Isabela is completely at home, Zoe is more unsure because this is a ship on the water and not the sky. More than that, she's the business type that would rather prefer someone else took helm. If only Mal was here now; she'll dictate]

This is Zoe, your...stand-in Captain speakin'. It looks like we've been wearin' down our welcome, so let's get ourselves organized and outta here before the fed- Navy comes. So let's get down to business.

I don't know the crew we got, so if there are anyone experienced with seafarin' you need to speak up and let us know what you can do. That includes captaining seaships since you'd be better for the helm than I. Anyone else speak up with any sort of skills you can bring to the table.

That said, we need to make sure we got enough supplies to set out on. World changes can last anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks, so make sure we're prepared. Who knows when we'll see shore again. If you're not sure what to get- think non-perishable foods, water, tools, rope and alcohol. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

I want everyone back to the ship within two hours. Last thing we want is to leave someone behind and right now we got no way of knowin' whose with us, so make sure not to get left.

[It wasn't often that a god felt confined enough to go a little stir-crazy. Sure, the island was nice and everything, but for someone who had previously been able to cross worlds and dimensions in the blink of an eye, it was a little stifling--even moreso than the castle.

Cupid's been trying to overcome this not-so-cabin fever by taking to the skies. Obviously, he hasn't had much luck. After a few unsuccessful attempts, he gets the bright idea to teleport himself up into one of the taller trees (at least he could still manage to get that far) so that he could achieve some lift with his wings on the way down.

Needless to say, this doesn't go off exactly as he planned. Instead, the god of desire finds himself face-planting into a bank of sand with a very audible thud. He'll go ahead and spit out the sand particles out of his mouth, before pushing himself back to his feet and reaching down to collect his journal, that fell open during that sweet dismount]

So, really, Paradisa, I ask you: What DO you do with a drunken sailor? Beats the fuck out of me, why don't we ask our new crewmates? That's right, I'm talkin' about Nami, Isabela, Dib, Kefka, Amaterasu, Seppun and Thor ... and a special welcome to Amelia and Neku, who had the misfortune of showing up after all of this crazy piratical bullshit started. You've got a hell of a ride ahead of you, guys. It only gets more fucked-up from here.

In case any of you still care about mundane shit you missed before we all woke up with sand in places we didn't even know we had ... here's for you. Someone's thinking of starting a newspaper, there's an artist taking commissions, one of the bars got trashed, there's another little survey for those of you into magic and science, aaaaaaaand in case you were living in a hole, there was a big old expedition out into the great beyond, to boot. I've got a feeling we'll all get some more comprehensive details on that when we're not ... well. On fucking pirate ships.

Love it, hate it, do whatever you wanna do about it, but I gotta say, it could be a lot worse from where I'm sitting. I got a party. Did YOU get a party? I heard something over the journals about a sea monster. Come on, guys, we're pirates now, let's swap stories. Yarrrrr.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
