Who: Vivian Volkoff and YOU
What: Vivian's having tea in the city.
When: November 25th
Where: At a coffee shop.
Rating: PG.

Tea had always been Vivian's preference to coffee. Possibly a conformation to a stereotype given that she was English, but that didn't matter to her. She had tea with her breakfast at home so why should that change when she was here? Vivian wasn't going to change her routine too much, only tweak it a little to accommodate the environment she was in.

After tending to her horse at the stables, she took a trip into the city, wanting to explore it a bit further and see what she could come across. Vivian remembered Jo telling her not so long ago about the coffee shop there so she decided to check it out for herself. Except not go for the coffee.

Soon, Vivian was seated at a booth by the window, a cup of steaming tea on the table in front of her, accompanied by a rather delicious looking blueberry muffin.

Life was good.

Helen returned her smile, closing her book after finding her tea cup empty after reaching for it. Damn, had she been here that long? Given how far through her book she now was it wasn't hard to believe that it was yes. Taking her book with her Helen ordered another cup of tea, this time taking a seat at the table next to the other woman's table. Helen couldn't ever remember having seeing her before but she was changing that now - she needed to actually meet more people face to face here.

Making no attempt to pick her book back up, Helen gave the other woman a smile again before taking a sip of her tea. She'd never exactly been good at starting conversations, and she refused to go with the stereotypical weather topic when there was nothing to say. So... well, this was a great start to a possible new acquaintance. Good job, Helen.

Sometimes, Vivian found it a little difficult to strike up a conversation with someone she didn't know. She felt awkward in social situations. That was evident when she threw the masquerade ball at her home and didn't make any attempt to talk to her guests. Vivian had sat away from the party by herself, enjoying a drink; not exactly the qualities of a good hostess.

The other woman seemed to have acknowledged her in return so perhaps it was time for Vivian to take that first step and say something.

"What were you reading?"

"La Petite Fadette." Helen moved the book from her lap to the table in case Vivian wanted to take a look (and to stop the chance of it falling to the floor, also).

"Sadly I can't tell you much about it as I've only just started it." But she extended her hand to the woman. "Helen Magnus."

"Ah, I haven't heard of that one," Vivian said, eyes scanning briefly over the cover when the other woman set it down on the table.

Taking the offered hand, Vivian shook it politely and smiled. "It's a pleasure, Helen. I'm Vivian Volkoff."

"It's been a long time since I've read it; I hadn't been looking for it when I found it." But when she had? It was nice to read it again.

Helen gave her a smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I hear that there are no blueberry muffins left?" She hadn't wanted one but she'd heard that little conversation earlier, and had been amused.

Drawing back her hand, Vivian rested it in her lap. "You heard that?" She laughed a little, shaking her head. "Guess blueberry muffins are quite the popular choice today."

Speaking of, Vivian reached for it with her free hand and finished it off, a look of bliss on her face.

"I did happen to be listening." It was a small cafe and voices carried. "I do suppose so, although they are rather nice from here." She'd had one on occasion.

"Mm, they are quite lovely. I'm quite fond of the tea that they have as well." Vivian dabbed her mouth with a napkin. "This is my first time here though."

Helen gave a nod. "I have to admit that I was a little surprised when I first came here, I wasn't expecting anywhere to have tea as lovely." It was the main reason why she'd returned.

She laughed a little. "Both of us are fitting the English stereotype about liking tea. Personally, I have no shame in it." Vivian laughed again. "I wanted to get some proper, fresh tea instead of wishing up for it like I have done before."

"I quite agree on that." She smiled, British to the core and proud - she'd been called as much.

"Wishing?" Oh, she'd rather have no tea than that, although she had to admit that she'd done so before - however only when she'd first arrived. "I don't quite trust that, actually."

"Some people have told me not to over wish, so I'm careful." Well, she wasn't exactly careful in the first place but after hearing what people said, she held back on it.

"Admittedly, I wished quite a lot when I first arrived. Never thought that it could have consequences until I spoke to others."

"I was a little weary from my arrival." As if arriving at a 'magical' castle that took something from you three times? She'd be foolish not to be.

But it was possible that home made her a little jaded in that regard. "No one seems yet to have suffered any consequences from wishing, however." Not yet, anyway.

"I haven't suffered any consequences yet. Nor do I know about anyone who has. Or, at least no one has made me aware of anything bad that has happened to them as a result of wishing."

Vivian gestured to her cup. "Would you like a refill?"

"That would be lovely, thank you." Helen gave a nod, giving some thought as to what Vivian said.

"Perhaps there is no relation but I'd still prefer to remain cautious."

"How do you take your tea?" Vivian asked, wanting to make sure she got it right.

"Then we have that in common." A moment passed. "Though I have taken the occasional risk in my life," she added with a smile.

"With a little milk but no sugar." Helen moved her book to the side of the table, clearing a little room for when Vivian brought the tea back.

"Life often does come with risks." Although if you were her you tended to look for them, or that was how it appeared.

"Okay, thanks for telling me." She replied, sliding out of her seat but not leaving yet.

"Which can make it quite interesting sometimes," Vivian said. "I'll go get your tea now. I won't be long."

Vivian moved from the table and over to the counter to place her order. A few moments later and she was coming back over to the table, setting Helen's tea in front of her.

"There you go."

"Thank you." Helen wrapped her hands around the cup when Vivian passed it to her, answering her previous statement.

"Interesting is certainly one description of it."

She slid back into her seat again, resting her hands in her lap.

"How else would you describe it?" Vivian asked after a few moments, curious about her answer.

"Dangerous, for another." Helen lifted her cup, taking a small sip of her tea. She was waiting to see Vivian's reaction to that.

Vivian raised a eyebrow at that, remaining quiet for a few moments before speaking again.

"Hm, that's a good word for it as well."

"Unless you know how to manage it, of course." Helen just left her with that thought (again).

"It depends on the situation," Vivian said. At least it did for her.

"There is that." Helen gave a small nod, taking another sip of her tea as she thought.
