[ Cue her wearing her serious face. ] Are you going to help her if she's having trouble adjusting? Who knows how long we're going to be in Paris for. Didn't that cruise ship last a week?

It's okay. I was mean, too. At first.

[ Wow. He -- hasn't thought about that. ]

Even if I were interested or worried -- she doesn't want my help. Katherine's always been able to take care of herself. She won't suddenly want or need me. And I have a job.

You'll always have me. [ Cheesy. God, Elena, why are you so unbelievably cheesy at times? But she means it. In a girlfriend way and also in a friendly way. If they ever do end things again - and she really hopes they don't - she wants Stefan in her life, regardless. Not as a protector, but as one of her close friends. ]

At least we can get a break from everything. From the threat she poses and the castle doing really annoying stuff that isn't whisking us off to Paris. [ Turning her into things and locking her in rooms. She really likes losing the castle and gaining a beautiful country. ]

That's the thing. [ He pauses. ] My...hair's setting, now, so the make-up artist has taken a break. [ He continues. ] I don't... know if she's a threat here. In Paris - or at the castle.

[ Oh, lord, she's cracking a smile at the hair setting comment. How she wishes iPhones were existing in Paradisa right now. ] I haven't spoken to her at all since she's arrived, so I don't know if she's really a threat. But she's Katherine.

[ UGH essentially sums up what Elena's feeling here.>/small> ] Just, please be careful, okay? From what you've told me and from what I've gained from experience, she's manipulative, human or vampire. I don't want you getting hurt. [ Or used. She won't be surprised if Katherine decides to play damsel in distress while here.

A SIGH. ] I hope we have time to enjoy it, even if it's only temporary.

[ It is nice being normal, for once. Being a nobody in a city like Paris. She's Elena, full stop, not Elena the Doppelganger. And it doesn't hurt that she gets to troll Stefan the Top Model. ]

She is. And I know this and I'm never going to discount that fact. Trusting her? Will take a lot and I probably never will.

And don't worry, I'm not running to her rescue the minute she cries wolf. I'm human, too, remember?

[ He wishes he were there to touch her cheek. To make her feel better. To reassure her. ]

Yeah. I don't want to get too comfortable but -- saying I don't enjoy it? Would be lying.
