07 - Thinking Thoughts
[look, it's an actual journal entry from someone a little bit sad, and little bit tired and a little bit too much hungover. Since when did water pack such a punch?]
It gave me a picture.
The Castle, I mean. If it's a him or a her I haven't seen evidence one way or the other. But for Christmas it gave me a picture. It's Mom and Dad, and me. Mamma and Daddy. Somehow writing it isn't the same as saying it. It's from high school graduation. Right before Daddy gave me my necklace. An apple for the apple of his eye.
I told him then if I was an apple then he was corn.
...it's one of the first things they took from me, in Pylea. On the table, before they put the collar on. And I couldn't do anything about it. It's gone, and it isn't coming back.
The thing is? I came back. Maybe a little bit different, a little bit more never the same? But I did come back. From Pylea, and the places I went to escape it.
I never thought I was going to be separated from them again. Not like the space from Texas to LA, but the kind that phone calls and letters and planes can't cross. I wasn't supposed to do this anymore.
I thought I was done getting lost.
And so many of them are here. Cordy. I missed her so much. Angel and Lorne. And Wesley. There's Wesley. But my folks aren't here, and looking at this picture the missing gets so big it feels like another body all together.
Before I went so far inside I forgot them. I even forgot my own name.
Now I can't seem to stop thinking about them.
And that somehow in me getting better?
It's made it worse.

no subject
They miss where they weren't ever really there at all.
Centuries?
Fred
I'm er, 900 years old. Roughly.
Re: Someone she doesn't know their name yet ;)
He only knows yours because he stalks Wesley >>
Fred's Stalked a bit in her day. ;)
[all bright smiles through the journal]
Wesley's mentioned you.
Fred
Re: Doctor
Which is science, in case you were wondering.
Magic is much more Wesley's thing. I mean, I can rattle off an incantation or two if I'm put in a spot? But he's much better at it.
Fred
Re: Doctor
I was working on my PhD in Physics, when I went away before.
Fred
Well I'm sure we'll have quite a bit to talk about, then. [pause] What has Wesley told you? About me?
Re: Doctor
He smiles when he talks about you.
Fred
Re: Doctor
Do you really?
Really...and I, I mean, I always knew that fundamentally it was possible. The pieces are all there. And a girl can't hop dimensions and not start to think about everything that's...
...do you really?
Fred
Re: Fred
And it sounds like....she? She's like us then. The outside isn't so important.
Fred
Something like that, yep. She's a sentient ship, grown not built. We've got a symbiotic link.
Re: Fred
Was the link discovered as a necessary requirement for actual time travel? Or is it just you? And where are they grown?
Fred
The Rassilon Imprimatur helps make time travel easier for Time Lords, molecularly speaking; the link is sort of a byproduct that makes TARDISes easier to fly. They were grown on my home world, Gallifrey.
Re: Doctor
But did someone create the initial design, and mold it like some agricultural hybrid?
...or did they just pop up in someone's herb garden one day?
Fred
Rassilon and Omega created the first prototype. They are half grown (the main structure), and half built (circuitry and such), using Block-Transfer Mathematics (which can alter space and time) and Transdimensional Engineering.
Re: Fred
[this is sooooo up her alley]
They must have been very talented scientists.
Fred
Re: Doctor
Or did he get taken away, like everyone else?
