The concept of a utopia is an interesting thing, isn't it? An ideal location, an ideal society - something that, in and of itself, is an impossibility. After all, there can never be something as true perfection; there is always some minute flaw. So many people have dedicated their lives in the pursual of their own utopia.
I've seen planets that had no crime, no war, that were peaceful and polite. In theory, you may say that these places are utopias; but that is still incorrect. A more proper term would be 'eutopia'. Eutopia is a perfect place that is real, where as a utopia is a perfect place that is impossible. Yet even then, the fact that outside interference (myself, in this case) can shatter all manners of peace further disproves the existence of even a eutopia.
Dystopias, of course, are far more common than any other type. I have been in control of a handful in my time, establishing law and order as I saw fit. And with the strictest of punishments for transgressions against government and against the laws I laid down.
Though looking back, it's interesting to see how my goals went from establishing a universal utopia to simply doing as I willed when I willed. The hands of time change us all, most certainly, and I've always been very bright.
Now then. Say, through some means, you are given a set of options. You may rule over a utopia, a dystopia, a eutopia, and an outopia (which I did not touch upon, but it is a perfect place that is completely unreal). Which of these would you choose?

Care to elaborate on what yours would be?

Then again, doubt it would last long.

I take your idea of a 'perfect society' is that of the anarchist's. Absolute liberty, complete freedoms, no government, no laws; people free to do as people wish provided that they don't throw everything into disorder and disarray. Common sense dictating morals and ethics.

Utopia is a concept that is an impossibility. It is perfection at it's absolutism, it is infallible and indestructible. Contrastingly, a eutopia is a place of perfection (by various definitions) that can reasonably exist outside of theories.
It is called a theoretical question, Schuldig, and within said theoretical question, a utopia is allowed to exist.

A dystopia sounds like entirely too much work and the others would be dull.

I'd find myself in a dystopia, make it the beginning of a eutopia, and leave.

Nay, it remains perfect only to those that have the strength to live by its ways. Perhaps, then, it is a outopia? These are words that escape me.
I chose the life of freedom. I would not commit myself to any 'topia.

Mmm. Personal freedom is always preferable to anything society could concoct.

Said imagination, greed, and fear are three things particular to human nature that seem limitless even to an optimist such as myself, but that is another topic.~

Indeed, it is - and one for a later time.
