Sometime just after two in the morning, a thought pulled Fred into wakefulness. It was Thanksgiving. Somehow in all the activity that came after the expedition, she'd almost let it slip away from her again.

It wasn't like they hadn't tried before, on more than one occasion. They would go out to the store, buy there ingredients and debate over just what they were getting themselves into. But somehow whenever it game down to the actual cooking of things, and getting themselves into the hotel's industrial kitchen? Something always happened. A demon attack or -- it might've been a run of the mill rogue vampire. And Wolfram & Hart?

Was Wolfram & Hart. They'd worked.

For days now she hadn't been able to shake the images of those bodies, clustered together in the auditorium. The natural comparisons to themselves. But suddenly in that moment? She didn't want anything of it.

Had't she said on more than one occasion that nothing was inevitable? Well there inability to have Thanksgiving was going to be made evitable. It just was.

Decision made, Fred scrabled from her bed and went to recruit some help.

"I'm sure she was," Cordelia nodded. "She was Angel's assistant for a reason. I never doubted her ability to get things done."

"Yeah," she said softly. "She was one of my best friends for a long time."

Cordelia blinked at that before shaking her head. "Well, yeah -- she still is, but it was different then. We were different then."

A beat.

"I mean, there was the whole 'I was ostracized for dating Xander' thing, and we were on the outs, and then she got sired and things got complicated. We're friends again now, but -- it's different. Better, in a way. Back then, she would have followed any queen bee to the end and back. Now it feels like we're actually friends."

Cordy hadn't had that much individuality at the time. She might have actually admired you, Fred -- not that Cordelia wasn't ever anything less than herself, but having the guts to not climb the social ladder is definitely something.

"Yeah," she said, turning back to her with a grin. "Definitely like pie."

"I don't think any of us would have missed it for the world," Cordelia replied softly. "It's not too often that we get something like this."

"We really do. Maybe have a standing date or something -- once a week or once every couple weeks. I mean, it's not like we can go anywhere without the castle's say-so."

Cordelia sucked in a deep breath and shrugged. "It's ... me and Angel. There's not really much more I can say about it than that. Something always seems to get in the way -- and it's usually ourselves."

Things hadn't been right since the baby week, and she kept meaning to try and fix it, but she didn't know where to start. It was just a hurdle that they couldn't seem to cross.

She shrugged. "Just be you. I'm sure we'll figure it out soon enough."
