Knock knock.

Overall, Jet was lucky, during the expedition. There hadn't been anything he couldn't handle, the people he'd gotten stuck with had been generally alright, and even the train crash hadn't left him very much worse for wear. Some cuts, bruises, a few deep scrapes. He's had worse, and will probably get worse in the future.

He'll think about the things he saw, the things he learned, and whatever went down last night later. For now, he's checking in, because Katara had asked him to, and he's working on the 'actually keeping his promises' thing. He's a little later than he said he'd be, but he's sure she won't begrudge him the time he took to throw on a change of clothes. He's here, like he promised.

Besides, he's curious to see what eight year old Katara looks like.

He grins, holding up a hand to casually shield his face.

"You're in the body of one, though. Look, if it makes you feel better, I'll never offer to help you with anything after this. On my honour."

[waterbends]

"Nope, I don't want to hear that -- because with my luck in Paradisa, a giant frog will try to eat me next week, and I don't want to see you, watching from your castle window and going--" She affects a high, incredibly unflattering falsetto for him here as she pours some of the water into cups. "--'Oooh, Katara, I COULD help you, but nahhh.'"

He chuckles good nqturedly, after a mock-glare.

"You'll live to regret that one. But fine, if you really want me to come to your rescue that badly...

She's quiet for a moment, watching the tea steep.

"I trust you, you know." It's blurted, a bit of a non-sequitur.

And for a split second, it's easy to see that she's thrown him for a bit of a loop with it. Of course, he knows that Katara has mostly let go of the resentment that she harboured for what passed between them all those months ago, but still, to hear her say it is... a little strange.

It's gone after a seecond, though. He grins.

"Sure, you do." The grin eases into a smile. "You should."

[waterbends]

"More like I don't have any choice," Katara huffs, flicking a little more water at him as she climbs off of the stool. It's in an attempt to dispel the awkwardness of her earlier statement more than anything else, and she shrugs a little at him as she starts toward her small, round table. "I've never been able to turn away a stray cat, you know."

Not that they got a lot of those in the South Pole. Her teasing point is made, though.

"Come have your tea."

He gives her a wry look as he comes over to take his cup from her, bending deep at the waist to exagerrate her shortness.

"What's with you and the insults today? First I've got a girl's voice, now I'm a cat. You're going to hurt my feelings."

"You started it when you tried to help me make tea. Just because I'm a little short.."

She's having a little trouble getting into her chair.

"And clumsy."

He stands and watches her struggle pointedly. He'd probably get a thwack if he tried to help her, anyway.

"Not clumsy."

She shoots him a look that is just as pointed, and clearly states 'Don't say a word.'

Katara does eventually get into the seat. She's just a little out of breath when she does.

He sits, finally, and doesn't bother to keep the amusement off his face.

"You need a minute?"

"If you're just going to sit here and be a jerk.."

She pointedly sips the tea.

He sips his own as well.

"It's weird, how you look almost exactly the same."

"Well, I'm kind of the same person, you know." She wrinkles her nose at him. "Unless you looked radically different when you were a kid."

"No, I just got even better looking. But come on, you've even still got your--" He gestures. "--hair loop things."

Do you see this sulking face, Jet? Do you?

"It's a traditional water tribe hair style."

He understands traditions, though he doesn't follow many himself, but continues to tease.

"Never thought about trying out something new? Hypothetically."

"-- I have. I wore a fire nation topknot when we were undercover there."

Her voice is high, tinny - cautious, though.

"We had to blend in."

He doesn't speak for a couple seconds, taking another sip of tea as his brows dip low.

"You never told me you'd been. Who's 'we'?"

"Me, Toph, Sokka, and Aang. We had to infiltrate -- it's kind of a long story."

A fidgety pause.

"How's the tea?"

He ignores the question, putting down his cup.

"In fact, you haven't told much of any of what happens after. Should the name 'Toph' ring a bell?"

"-- oh, right."

She puts down her own cup, but holds it with both hands.

"She was an earthbender - you met her briefly in Ba Sing Se. Blind."
