keeping promises.
who: jet (
rappelle) and katara (
kyasdaughter).
what: checking in after the expedition. :|a
when: monday, november 21st, noon-ish.
where: katara's room.
rating: pg.
Knock knock.
Overall, Jet was lucky, during the expedition. There hadn't been anything he couldn't handle, the people he'd gotten stuck with had been generally alright, and even the train crash hadn't left him very much worse for wear. Some cuts, bruises, a few deep scrapes. He's had worse, and will probably get worse in the future.
He'll think about the things he saw, the things he learned, and whatever went down last night later. For now, he's checking in, because Katara had asked him to, and he's working on the 'actually keeping his promises' thing. He's a little later than he said he'd be, but he's sure she won't begrudge him the time he took to throw on a change of clothes. He's here, like he promised.
Besides, he's curious to see what eight year old Katara looks like.

And eight year old Katara is tiny, adorable, and just as overbearing as she's always been.
"You're back. And you're alright! Come in."
no subject
But he just slips inside, fighting a smile.
"Of course I'm okay. What did you expect?"
no subject
Katara's room is surprisingly spartan. There's a bedroll, a dresser and a window, but few artifacts from home. There is a small kitchenette, however, and Katara is clamoring over to that now, reaching up and struggling only a little with the tea she's starting.
If he crouches to talk to her, she'll hit him.
"Sit down."
no subject
The room does surprise him, to some degree. Katara's been here a lot longer than he has; he'd expected a bit more. But Katara is good at surprising people.
"There wasn't too much to get hurt from. Other than... well. You sure you don't want some help with that?"
no subject
But she does shoot him a scathing look at the offer.
"I don't need help. I am a perfectly capable adult. Now sit down." She'll just be balancing precariously on that stool, there.
no subject
"Needing help isn't what makes you a kid. I'm not going to watch while you topple over."
no subject
Does the clumsy eight year old struggling with boiling water frighten you, Jet?
no subject
"Like I said, it didn't exactly tire me out."
And he doesn't look it, either. Last night, at least, he'd been able to get some decentish rest, under the open sky for the first time in a week. And most of his minor injuries are covered by his clothes.

"I doubt you'd have been a problem. There was some little kid in the group I got stuck in -- couldn't have been more than six -- and he made it fine. With some help."
no subject
"Who brings a six year old on a mission like that?!"
no subject
"The six year old decided to come for himself. And it wasn't exactly a mission, remember. It was just supposed to be about exploring."
no subject
no subject
"As dangerous as a three foot tall kid handling a pot of boiling water?"
no subject
"Except I'm not actually a three foot tall kid."
no subject
"You're in the body of one, though. Look, if it makes you feel better, I'll never offer to help you with anything after this. On my honour."
no subject
no subject
"You'll live to regret that one. But fine, if you really want me to come to your rescue that badly...
no subject
"I trust you, you know." It's blurted, a bit of a non-sequitur.

no subject
"Sure, you do." The grin eases into a smile. "You should."
no subject
Not that they got a lot of those in the South Pole. Her teasing point is made, though.
"Come have your tea."
no subject
"What's with you and the insults today? First I've got a girl's voice, now I'm a cat. You're going to hurt my feelings."
no subject
She's having a little trouble getting into her chair.
no subject
He stands and watches her struggle pointedly. He'd probably get a thwack if he tried to help her, anyway.
