Happy Diwali [open]

Who: All of Paradisa! That means YOU
What: Feasts and fireworks, oh my!
When: The third day of Diwali; Friday, Oct. 28th
Where: Everywhere (though just the ballroom for the feast)
Rating: Um, not more than PG? This is a family holiday, guys, come on...

Diwali is living up to it’s name today. The lights are everywhere today both outside and in.  Stands of candles line the lobby like a temple and lanterns hang from the very ceiling. Everywhere there is light.

Today, however, you can add new smells and sounds to the list as well. Music drifts through the air into the lobby, along with the fragrant, spice filled scents of foods and sweets.

((FEAST | FIREWORKS))

Her words reminded her of other faces, far more familiar than her own. Carver thought over what she'd said, glancing from her back up to the sky. It was a sky, that much was certain.

He held off on any concrete opinion for his own, waiting for the next crackle and burst of light against the backdrop of the evening. "Lights in the skies at night are usually bad news," he said, sounding more serious than he was. That was simple fact. Lights could reflect the fires of the horde. Light could be a burning village, town, or city. It could be the chantry exploding outward, reduced to rubble and encasing in stone all the worshipers who had knelt within its haven.

Pretty, dangerous lights.

"Really?" she sounds surprised at the answer, and looks back up to consider the fireworks in this new way. She stares at the sky for a moment, considering... But then she ends up shrugging her shoulders and looking back up at this oddly stiff young man.

"I guess my world is pretty different from your world. If there's danger, it's normally not the big 'blows up in the sky' kind of danger."

He's staring upward again, face impassive as he watches the lights. "We've plenty of that, too." When he looked back toward her, it was partly as an excuse to stop craning his neck backward. He was on rocky ground with what to do here, his purpose taken away again, feeling more his own, singular person than he had in close to seven -- nine? -- years.

"Things like this might have been nice for a few. For festivals, or celebrations."

"Exactly! And this is a festival," she replied brightly, with the smug look on her face that was half mischievous, half satisfied. But after saying that she circles her shoulders, someone is also feeling a bit sore from looking up at this tall guy.

"You should sit down, it's hard to look at you this way."

For a while, Carver looked like he might simply walk away. He wasn't looking to enjoy whatever this was, in the clothing that felt stiffly out of place and commemorative of sillier adventures with his dear elder sister. All his Warden "adventures" were decidedly less dressy.

Then he shifts, bending his knees and holding out a hand to catch himself before lowering the rest of the way. He feels awkward in these pants, wanting his usual clothing back, and stuck with this anyway. I'll figure out how soon that man will be done.

"You could just not look. Save your neck and everything. Neck aches are terrible."

She gives him a flat look at that comment, "But you're talking to me, I'm not going to be rude and just not look at you." That look however quickly dissipates as she looks thoughtfully ahead. It was easy for her to take off on flights of imagination, and that seemed to be exactly what was happening now.

"Although, if you think about it, wouldn't that be handy? If you could close your eyes and they would show up on any other part of your head? So you could look up at someone messing up their neck? But I guess it would be hard to look through your hair..." she shrugged. The idea seemed to have quickly lost its appeal, so she moved on to the next point of interest in the queue of her mind.

"So, what's your name?"

Carver might have simply been used to people doing conversations every which was, eye contact or no. Shifting to find a more comfortable position on the ground, he tenses as another firework exploded into golden reds. Maya's babbling mostly passed over him, something about eyes and wishing they'd show up where you will.

He feels they were perfectly fine where they were, if it hardly seemed like a conversation she was actually attempting to have.

He's a beat slow in responding to her direct question, looking over at her as he replies. "Carver," he says, leaving out his family name. He's more used to it, with the mentality of the Wardens that who you were before wasn't your excuse for who you were now. "Yours?"

She raises her right hand in a sort of waving motion. Exchanging names always felt like the beginning of a real friendship between two people, and that kind of occasion always deserves a wave, or at least that's what she thinks.

"Nice to meet you Carver, I'm Maya Fey."
