I CAN BE YOUR HERO BAY-BAY

Who: Gilbert Nightray and Kyle Rayner
What: Gil needs Kyle :'(
When: Right now. Well... 11pm, Mach 4th?
Where: Outside.
Rating: Idk... PG?

Usually, when Kyle had free time on his hands, he'd either paint or ... snack on fatty foods and watch old crappy movies. Sometimes he would pay the gym a visit or go for a walk; how he maintained the body of a Greek God (okay, that's an exaggeration, but he's pretty close) was beyond anyone.

Tonight was one of those nights where Kyle had a particular craving for fresh air. So there he was, stepping out into the chilly night, dressed in a thin jacket and a pair of jeans. Of course, being too hip for rain boots or anything of that nature, his shoes of choice were inappropriate for the cold and wet weather, as well.

Once his foot sunk into the slush of the half-melted snow, Kyle realized that --

"I should have worn socks."

Shrugging, he decided to endure the gradual numbing of his toes and continue his walk.

Gil couldn't hold his scowling in. He gripped the insides of his pockets and shook his head, as if to say Kyle was confusing him. Everyone in Paradisa did. Allen, Morgana, Lenalee... even Alice-- they made him out to be some sort of kind, gentle person they could trust. But this was merely a false perception... Elliot was right about Gil; he was selfish and cowardly. He only paid attention to those when it was a convenience for him.

So why was it Kyle was always--

"Don't you hate me?"

Again, with those silly comments. At first Gil just glared and walked a few more feet up ahead before leaning against a tree. He looked up at Kyle and suddenly, he envied the other man. Envied how Kyle was carefree and happy with what he had despite his responsibility as a-- what was it?-- Green Lantern.

Gil himself hadn't been for fostering friendships with anyone-- but as he listened to Kyle's words he realized the sincerity in them and that he was putting in an effort. Gil's left hand tightened and he tore his gaze off Kyle's face.

"I don't know what you see in me. What you think of me as." He mumbled, "Even women who claimed interest in me were only out to inherit the Nightray name and wealth."

Nobody outside of the Vessalius and Nightray showed the sort of interest Kyle did.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you did. My own brother..." he trailed off.

"But what is it about me that makes you want to be my-- friend..." his voice cracked a little saying that last word.

So embarrassing... He glanced at Kyle for a short moment and turned his cheek the other way once more.

It took him a second to discover Kyle was closer to him than he was before and in his personal space. Immediately throwing his hands up defensively, Gil backed away trying to increase the distance once more.

"Kyle?"

And Gil had found himself backed against a tree.

"...Kyle..."

There was various thoughts swimming in Gil's head while Kyle continued to approach him like some sort of hungry predator. Was this just another one of his pranks? Gil was ready to punch him in the torso, his fist clenched and prepared when Kyle's body came upon him in an embrace.

He stood there, confused and speechless.

What was this for...?

His muscles relaxed. Gil gave Kyle a questionable look before stepping away from the tree. His face was still slightly red-- he probably looked so stupid right now before Kyle.

"I wouldn't shoot you."

For what felt like the umpteenth time, the dark-haired one of the duo began shifting himself in the direction of the castle and taking a few steps forward, the sloshing sound of the melting snow finally soaking up the ends of his pants.

He waved a hand back at Kyle, as if to assure him nothing was wrong.

"I'm fine."
