I CAN BE YOUR HERO BAY-BAY

Who: Gilbert Nightray and Kyle Rayner
What: Gil needs Kyle :'(
When: Right now. Well... 11pm, Mach 4th?
Where: Outside.
Rating: Idk... PG?

Usually, when Kyle had free time on his hands, he'd either paint or ... snack on fatty foods and watch old crappy movies. Sometimes he would pay the gym a visit or go for a walk; how he maintained the body of a Greek God (okay, that's an exaggeration, but he's pretty close) was beyond anyone.

Tonight was one of those nights where Kyle had a particular craving for fresh air. So there he was, stepping out into the chilly night, dressed in a thin jacket and a pair of jeans. Of course, being too hip for rain boots or anything of that nature, his shoes of choice were inappropriate for the cold and wet weather, as well.

Once his foot sunk into the slush of the half-melted snow, Kyle realized that --

"I should have worn socks."

Shrugging, he decided to endure the gradual numbing of his toes and continue his walk.

ANGIEEEEEEEEEEE

Nowadays without Oz in the castle, Gil was never short on free time. It was rather foreign to him, honestly; having nothing to do other than walk around the castle or listen in on the journals but even that had become boring.

Deciding to quit smoking was a terrible decision, he told himself. Terrible. He was already in a cranky position with Oz being gone and feeling completely powerless when it came to Vincent and Ada, and now “quitting” cigarettes was only making him feel crankier.

And to make his night more irritating, he had found the shooting range was closed.

The only thing he thought he could do now was to head back to his room and try to sleep. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and strolled back towards the castle.

Kyle's voice made Gil look up and his expression relaxed, before becoming a little surprised. It was getting late and to see Kyle out was strange– after all wouldn't he be with Donna?

Why was he even thinking–

“Kyle?”

kylekins :3

Gil made sure to keep his feet away from splashing Kyle as well. He took out his carton of cigarettes but halted almost immediately, staring at the package before putting them back into his coat pocket.

"Yeah, thought the shooting range was still open." He shrugged and moved past Kyle.

Kyle was too perceptive-- it made Gil feel uncomfortable. Plus, whatever he was feeling right now wasn't even Kyle's problem, it was Gil's burden alone. It would be childish to talk to whine to the other male.

kyaaa.... kyle-sama

He was half-expecting Kyle to follow him but he refrained from making any remarks and continued back towards the castle.

He didn't turn his head but nodded, "I heard the shooting range was the best place for it." He also figured it would allow him access to some privacy for the time being to clear his head. "My loss made it harder to fire with perfect precision."

He tensed slightly and looked over at Kyle.

"What is it?

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
He struggled almost immediately and scowled down at Kyle.

"Put me down right now!" he demanded from above and continued trying to fight off whatever it was Kyle had created. He pulled out his gun and tried to get a firm grip on the handle to fire at the bird's leg.

When they were close enough to the ground, Gil jumped out from Kyle's arms and landed on his two feet, his fists balled and his face red with irritation. He turned away, trying not to look at Kyle so he could resist the urge to punch him in the face. Why was he always like this? Why couldn't anyone ever act normal around Gil?

"I don't want to play your games, Kyle!" he shouted, stuffing the gun back into its holster.

He turned around and with his left hand, gripped his forearm and grit his teeth. "Why do you always do this?"

gil sounds like a mary sue here...

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Because there had never been many people who treated Gil like a friend (even his own adoptive brothers were the least of family to him growing up), someone like Kyle who was so direct and laid back was too alien to him. Could someone be so easy going like that?

"It's annoying."

He looked at Kyle, his golden eyes meeting with green ones. He stuffed his hands back into his coat and started towards the edge of the forest. "I don't get you or Donna."

Taking the bait easily, Gil was halted in his tracks and looked down at the slush. The words of Break and Elliot ran through his his head as he stared at his dirtied reflection in the puddle.

He couldn't make the same mistake with Kyle.

"We are... maybe it's better this way." Gil really was a selfish brat. Had he changed in ten years?

I haven't changed at all.

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
He turned around and threw Kyle an unimpressed look.

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Gil couldn't hold his scowling in. He gripped the insides of his pockets and shook his head, as if to say Kyle was confusing him. Everyone in Paradisa did. Allen, Morgana, Lenalee... even Alice-- they made him out to be some sort of kind, gentle person they could trust. But this was merely a false perception... Elliot was right about Gil; he was selfish and cowardly. He only paid attention to those when it was a convenience for him.

So why was it Kyle was always--

"Don't you hate me?"

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Again, with those silly comments. At first Gil just glared and walked a few more feet up ahead before leaning against a tree. He looked up at Kyle and suddenly, he envied the other man. Envied how Kyle was carefree and happy with what he had despite his responsibility as a-- what was it?-- Green Lantern.

Gil himself hadn't been for fostering friendships with anyone-- but as he listened to Kyle's words he realized the sincerity in them and that he was putting in an effort. Gil's left hand tightened and he tore his gaze off Kyle's face.

"I don't know what you see in me. What you think of me as." He mumbled, "Even women who claimed interest in me were only out to inherit the Nightray name and wealth."

Nobody outside of the Vessalius and Nightray showed the sort of interest Kyle did.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you did. My own brother..." he trailed off.

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"But what is it about me that makes you want to be my-- friend..." his voice cracked a little saying that last word.

So embarrassing... He glanced at Kyle for a short moment and turned his cheek the other way once more.

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
It took him a second to discover Kyle was closer to him than he was before and in his personal space. Immediately throwing his hands up defensively, Gil backed away trying to increase the distance once more.

"Kyle?"

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
And Gil had found himself backed against a tree.

"...Kyle..."

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
There was various thoughts swimming in Gil's head while Kyle continued to approach him like some sort of hungry predator. Was this just another one of his pranks? Gil was ready to punch him in the torso, his fist clenched and prepared when Kyle's body came upon him in an embrace.

He stood there, confused and speechless.

What was this for...?

[identity profile] invokes.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
His muscles relaxed. Gil gave Kyle a questionable look before stepping away from the tree. His face was still slightly red-- he probably looked so stupid right now before Kyle.

"I wouldn't shoot you."

For what felt like the umpteenth time, the dark-haired one of the duo began shifting himself in the direction of the castle and taking a few steps forward, the sloshing sound of the melting snow finally soaking up the ends of his pants.

He waved a hand back at Kyle, as if to assure him nothing was wrong.

"I'm fine."
