My Pride Is Too Sly To Hold Back All My Dark

Who: Gonou and Lana
What: They wanted to meet in person
When: Now? March 19th.
Where: The music room
Rating: Pg-13, at the worst. Probably pretty PGish.

Gonou had a slight smile across his lips as he made his way to the music room. Finally, he had found someone who actually sounded like they were worth talking to. What a pleasent surprise. He knew eventually, he should find Goku and Sanzo, but for now, he was going to enjoy himself. After all, it had been such a long time since he had last allowed himself to.

He made his way into the music room, looking around for the girl. This was, after all, where she had said she would be. He had always been rather fond of music. Back in the orphanages he grew up in, the music of worship was one of the only things he had enjoyed there.

Lana was sitting at the piano looking at the keys, thinking of what she wanted to play, not even noticing Gonou, so deep was her ponder.
She set her fingers on the keys and began a lovely, rolling tune that reminded her of the wind or moving water. Only a few moments into the tune she felt the eyes on her, which was surprising, since when she played the piano it usually took someone throwing a brick at her head to get her attention.

She stopped playing and glanced up, looking mildly startled, at the man who had entered the room. She blinked quickly, the only real outward sign of being in any way startled. She could only think of one person that could be...
"...Gonou?" She ventured.

Lana turned on the piano bench and smiled at him, "Yes, I'm Lana...thank you. Yes I've been playing since...well for as long as I can remember. I think I must have been three or so when I started taking lessons."

She tried to remember. She must have been because she remembered that it was her mother that had expressed interest in her learning the piano and her mother had died when she was three.

She looked up at him, "Do you play?"

Lana frowned a little and pursed her lips, "Well that's too bad. If you still wanted to learn I could try to teach you but I'm no professional."
She looked sheepish and drew circles on the piano bench with her finger, "My theory kind of sucks."

Lana tilted her head, "Well I've never taught someone before...and my musical theory is...well I'm rusty. Writing and sight reading music is difficult for me," she explained. She shrugged, looking a bit embarrassed, "I don't practice reading very often. Most of the things I play I play from memory."

Lana smiled and turned on the piano stool. She thought for a moment before placing her hands on the keys and trying out a few. She then broke into Debussy's 'Reverie' for a few measures before she stopped and smiled at Gonou. "Debussy has a wonderful style. It's very...peaceful yet full of energy. I agree that he's very good but I think my favorite at the moment is probably Schubert."

Lana seemed very happy discussing music. There were very few people she knew who had much of a deep appreciation for classical piano. She was pleased to find Gonou did.

Lana smiled at him, "Very," She agreed. "I've met a couple of people who enjoy listening to it but most go blank the moment you mention a composer."

She took her fingers off of the keys and set her hands in her lap, "And even those who do know rarely know beyond Chopin and the most popular of composers....." She glanced at the keys curiously, "Which is your favorite of Debussy? I personally prefer Arabesque to play. It's very fun, not quite as technically masterful as Schubert's Impromptu 90 number 2 in my opinion but it's equally as...vital and....well just plainly more FUN to play."

Lana thought over his decision, "You really think so? I've always thought it sounded a little...eerie and stormy. Not that it isn't a lovely piece, I just have trouble relaxing to it."

Lana nodded, "Oh I completely agree there. Claire de Lune is....I'm not sure it's not boring but it's just too spaced out and quiet for me to relax to either. Not enough keystrokes in too long of a timespan I guess. I'm not sure. I have trouble with nocturns as well."
She thought for a moment about how to dictate what she was trying to say, "It's as if they're so...gentle and slow that it's distracting, if that makes any amount of sense."

Lana nodded, "Too true! I know people who love them quite a lot but I just don't understand it. My mind must just not work that way." She shrugged, "Give me a March or a ragtime tune before a nocturn. I like my fingers to stay busy while I play. Many people don't understand that a song does not have to be.....uncomplicated to be beautifully slow and relaxing...like this one for example.." She put her fingers on the keys and began to play a song from one of the game music books Lois had had her play out of. She felt weird playing music from a video game but some of those songs were quite masterful.
She played through a good portion of the song so as to demonstrate the motion it had before she stopped. She then pointed at the keys, "That is the kind of slower music I like to play. Both hands are almost always moving busily and there are portions where it gets downright challenging for your fingers for an extra treat. Much more interesting in my opinion."

Lana nodded, "I believe it's by someone named..." She paused as she thought. Japanese names were still kind of hard for her, "Nobue Uematsu," she said confidently after her pause. "I tend to really enjoy most pieces by him. It always seems to me that he puts a good deal into his music."

She realized they'd been talking about music and composers for quite some time now. She looked at Gonou. He had a real appreciation for it, she found it very sad he'd never been able to learn when he was young. "Do you...have anything in particular you'd like to hear, Gonou?" she quested quietly.
