040 - Want It All Back

[It's Monday morning, time for all the good children of the city to be going to school. There is a very enthusiastic redhead skipping down the sidewalk with her backpack balanced on her head. She's dressed very much like your typical 13(ish) year old... but her bare feet slap the sidewalk as she dances her way through the crowd singing at the top of her lungs.]

Schooo~oool, schooo~oool, gooooiiiing to schoooo~ooool! Edward is going to leaaaarn something today yes oh yes!

[She's not entiiiiirely watching where she's going, if she's not careful she might run into someone]

[She sees that wave and stops mid spin, her head cocking to one side. A stranger? And yet... there's a weird feeling nagging in the back of her mind. Oh well. It must not be THAT important. She grins and waves back.]

Bonjooouuuur! Hello!!

[Delta replies seamlessly in French.]

Bonjour. I am called Delta. We are new to this city, and glad to see it has cheerful residents. Is there anywhere around here you would recommend for breakfast?

Delta?

[A confused look crosses her face. Why does that name sound so familiar? The more she looks at him the more she feels like she knows him. She shakes her head, discarding the very confusing thoughts for the time being. Gracefully dropping her backpack from her head and swinging it onto her back she nods and replies in French, sounding for all the world like it was her first language]

Oui! Des Gateaux et du Pain has the best pastries! Edward can show you where it is. [She grins broadly]

[York and Delta notice that look, and a sharp glance passes between them. But there's no way--it must be like those "natives" they'd met as pirates, the ones that other people had recognized as previous castle residents.

If it will not make you late for school. Otherwise, if you could give us directions, we would greatly appreciate it.

[Edward runs over and grabs Delta's hand like it's the most natural thing in the world, pulling him along down the sidewalk.]

[Delta looks slightly confused as Ed drags him along, but York laughs and follows, calling in English for them to wait up.]

Thank you, Edward. It is greatly appreciated.

[She laughs, waving a hand, calling out in English.] Come ooon, York!

[She continues dancing along, the fact that neither of them had said York's name never even occurring to her.]

[They notice, though. They definitely notice. York jogs quickly up to meet them and gives Delta another sharp glance, and Delta nods.]

So how long have you been here in Paris, Ed? Your English is really good.

Edward's lived here Edward's whole life! [She smiles brightly up at York.] Thank you! They teach Ed English at school.

[York has to wonder - is that what the castle does to people when they leave? It keeps them, but drops them in a different part of the world with false memories, to continue their lives in relative peace?

He can't help but grin at that. Even if it only happens once in a while, it's a whole lot better than going home to die. And since this is the second place they've seen evidence this happens, well....]

Very good! Now this place isn't far, is it? You can only get better if you keep learning.

[Walking between the two feels so familiar... It's as if she'd done this before. But she had never met them before, had she?]

Where are you from? Edward's always wanted to explore!

New York City, and I know you know where that is. You ever wanted to go to America?

[Delta just smiles, watching the streets carefully to make sure they don't run into anything.]

[Edward stops mid nod. Her eyes wide, she stops walking in the middle of the sidewalk as her mind struggles. America. No... Not America. South America. But... Not how it is, now. What does all of this mean? She looks up at the sky as a jet flies far overhead, leaving a streak in the sky behind it.]

Edward wants to see America... Edward wants to go to space!

[Now this is an oddly specific request. One of these glances again, and York nods at Delta.]

I have heard of a spaceship called the Bebop.

[her gaze snaps to Delta and she stares at him for a moment.] Bebop...

[She gasps, her eyes going wide as the cracks in the dam in her memories widen too much and the dam shatters. Earth. Bebop... Paradisa! How could she have forgotten any of this?! She looks between the two as the recognition blooms in her eyes. Without warning she launches herself at York, throwing her arms around his neck.]

York!

[He's caught off guard, but after the briefest moment he laughs and hugs her back.]

Ed! I knew it was really you.

[And Delta smiles, hesitantly reaching up to pat her on the shoulder as well.]

[She laughs, letting go of York and grabbing Delta in a hug.]

Of course it's Edward!

[B-baw nobody really hugs Delta, so he's a little awkward in returning it, but genuine.]

You really thought you'd been here this whole time, huh?

[She gives him another squeeze before dropping back down to her feet. She nods at York.]

Uh-huh. Edward thought Edward always lived here! But... [she frowns.] Why would Disa-Disa do that?

[His smile gets a little sad.]

We though it had taken you away from us. I mean, I guess it did, but we thought you "went home".

Five months, approximately. It was summer when we last heard from you.

Let's see...were you here for when everyone was pirates? D here got to be a parrot. Then we had a big festival of lights around Halloween.
