040 - Want It All Back

[It's Monday morning, time for all the good children of the city to be going to school. There is a very enthusiastic redhead skipping down the sidewalk with her backpack balanced on her head. She's dressed very much like your typical 13(ish) year old... but her bare feet slap the sidewalk as she dances her way through the crowd singing at the top of her lungs.]

Schooo~oool, schooo~oool, gooooiiiing to schoooo~ooool! Edward is going to leaaaarn something today yes oh yes!

[She's not entiiiiirely watching where she's going, if she's not careful she might run into someone]

[He's caught off guard, but after the briefest moment he laughs and hugs her back.]

Ed! I knew it was really you.

[And Delta smiles, hesitantly reaching up to pat her on the shoulder as well.]

[She laughs, letting go of York and grabbing Delta in a hug.]

Of course it's Edward!

[B-baw nobody really hugs Delta, so he's a little awkward in returning it, but genuine.]

You really thought you'd been here this whole time, huh?

[She gives him another squeeze before dropping back down to her feet. She nods at York.]

Uh-huh. Edward thought Edward always lived here! But... [she frowns.] Why would Disa-Disa do that?

Probably the same reason it does anything.

[His smile gets a little sad.]

We though it had taken you away from us. I mean, I guess it did, but we thought you "went home".

How long has Edward been gone?

Five months, approximately. It was summer when we last heard from you.

But, hey! You're back in time for Christmas.

Five months, ooo la la. [She thinks] Edward didn't go home at all.

What did Edward miss?

Let's see...were you here for when everyone was pirates? D here got to be a parrot. Then we had a big festival of lights around Halloween.

--And a good friend of mine from home got here. [And many others left.

Uh-huh. Edward protected Hardison on the scaaaaaary piiiiiirate ship.

[a pause, then she grins at York] A friend from home? Can Edward meet them?

Hasn't been too long, then. [He grins in relief.]

I'd love to have you meet her, Ed. She's a bit scary, but she's a good person and a good friend. Once I track her down in this city, we'll have to have dinner or something.

Okay! You should meet Jacob, too! Edward's been living with him, here.

Edward's made lots of friends, here. Mr. Abel and Ms. Lilith and aaaall the kids at school!

[Wait... that's where she's supposed to be right now, isn't it. A thought occurs to her.]

York... do you think Edward will come back to Disa-Disa with you?

Father Abel, too. And Lilith was his wife, right?

[He and Delta narrow their eyes in tandem, and York gets out his journal.]

Do you still have one of these?

[She nods] Uh-huh. The Nightroads. They live next door.

[She looks at it for a minute, then it dawns on her. She pulls her backpack off her back and plops down on the ground, rummaging through it for a minute. Papers and textbooks go flying until she finally comes up with the journal, victorious.]

Ed thought it was a journal just for Ed. Ed doesn't think it worked, here.

[He grabs his own journal out of a messenger bag, and writes a quick filter to her and the words "Can you see this?"]

Okay, look and see if you got that.

[She opens up her journal and takes a look. Her eyes light up as she sees the filtered words]

Edward can see it!

[York grabs her in a hug again, a little tighter this time.]

Welcome back, Edward.

Now you better get to school so you aren't late, you know, but we can meet you right after?

[She laughs, hugging him back tightly. She missed you, man, even if she didn't realize it until now. When he says the 'S' word she pouts]

Awww~www. Does Ed have to? Edward doesn't want to go to school, now.

[He ruffles her hair, grinning.]

Really, you should. But I'll be here when you get out. Promise.

[She giggles at the hair ruffle before sighing and picking up her bag]
