○ 013 Transmission
[Originally, Rookie had planned on spending the morning outside today to enjoy the fresh air, but decided against it when recalling the piles of leaves that were still littering the castle's grounds. Having no real interest in wasting the duration of his afternoon with plucking foliage out of his armor - as that usually tended to be how his evenings were spent once he returned indoors - the ODST could instead be found sprawled out in a nice little corner of Paradisa's lobby with the journal purposely propped open over his helmet.
Luckily for those listening, however, it wasn't snoring that was being transmitted over the pages today.]
[Filtered to those in the UNSC - except the Meta.]
Hey. Been meaning to bring this up, but I have some technology for you guys to check out. Grabbed it back when we all got separated during the expedition. Not sure if any of you would actually be interested in it though, seeing as a lot of it's broken, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to mention.
[/Filter]
[Once that was said and done, Rookie gave a soft sigh before moving on to the next two filters. Since he may as well cover all his bases while he was doing the whole journal thing.]
[Ted]
Doing any better, civvy?
[/Filter]
[Kallen]
Hey... [Bit of an awkward pause, since he was still trying to settle on whether or not to go through with this.] You have a moment?
[/Filter]
(ooc: Feel free to come across Rookie in the lobby, but other than that replies will be after I sleep. o/)

And could you tell what was causing it to turn on and off?
no subject
[He'll then give a second to considering the next question, before slowly shaking his head.]
No. Not really.
no subject
[York gestures a few times and Delta pulls up a 3-D hologram of the device, which York spins a little with his hands.]
no subject
[Rookie slants his visor in the direction of the hologram, pausing to take it in with rekindled interest, before he's leaning forwards to gesture towards the spot he had used before.]
How about there?
no subject
[He delicately picks up the device. Yeah, that might be some kind of power source.]
Now we just have to figure out what kind of connection it takes. Does this pry off, or?
no subject
no subject
[Using the extremely cool solid hologram projection system that Yuki had given York for Christmas last year, Delta makes for York a thin blade of light - thin enough to pry open the power supply without danger of damaging it.]
There you go, open up for me.
no subject
[But Rookie will stand off to the side and watch. That knife getting far more interest than the actual box, truthfully, but seeing as he'd never seen anything like it before that wasn't much of a surprise.
As for the latch, it opens with very little difficulty. The inside appearing to be somewhat worn down and old, but there was indeed a spot that seemed like it would allow Flora's crystal to be inserted.]
no subject
[He lets the lightblade dissolve once the panel comes off - he'll gladly make another one if the Rookie would like to investigate it, though.]
Looks like we got a winner here.
[He carefully slips a crystal into the slot....]
no subject
Although that might have also been because the second that crystal pops in, the device glows. Then hums, loudly, and comes to life in the same way it had back in the expedition. Except the petals stayed as they were, and just shook a little while the music simply faded in and out underneath. Like a broken, ghostly melody.]
no subject
[York speaks slowly, observing carefully. After a moment he turns around to grab the other crystal and chain them together to boost the power.]
Let's see if more juice will help.
no subject
The second crystal does seem to do the trick, though, and the petals lifted up. Albeit slowly, and still shaking in a way the gave hints that the device was still struggling to work. The music, as well, growing louder and more distinct, but still skipping ever now and again.
Eventually though, once the petals were finally pointing straight up into the air, there would be a 'click' as something metal in each one slide open to revel a tiny, circular hole. Which was then followed by a blinding bright light that shot out from the center of the box. Any of it that went through the circles gave off a multitude of colorful images, ones that flickered and danced around like phantoms, but if York paid close enough attention he might be able to tell that they were all familiar to him in one way or another.]
no subject
[The light causes him to jump back and almost unconsciously draw his weapon. He barely registers any of it...but fortunately, they have Delta. York's AI is much quicker and more objective than he is.]
The power is still less than recommended. I would recommend building a battery with approximately two point five times the energy capacity of a single crystal. [i.e. about ten double-A batteries]
Did you--did you see that, Rookie?
no subject
Then he nods lightly, and pushes away from the wall to move closer.]
Yeah, I did. [Sounding a little amused.] Really think it'll work with more power, though?
no subject
Complying. [He uses the holotable to recreate with uncanny accuracy the visions as they appeared to York, albeit on a smaller scale.]
Was this the same as you saw, or was it different?
no subject
No it... seems different somehow. [He pauses to tilt his head completely, trying to get a better angle in hopes of figuring out what exactly he was looking at.] Doesn't have the same feeling to it either.
[Which is no surprise, considering it had been trying to transmit York's conscious through music and visions. Not Rookie's.]
no subject
Seems really personalized. How do you think it's doing that?
no subject
[That's... interesting. Although he had wondered why he noticed something familiar about the holograms when he had activated it himself. Guess that makes sense now.
York simply gets another shrug, though, before he's leaning back.]
Sensor, maybe? One that taps into the last person who touches it somehow. [Pause.] Or it could be magic too, knowing the way stuff works around here.
no subject
[He taps the device curiously.]
And I'm not sure they're all memories, but that one is, at least. If it takes a quick mental scan or something, that could explain it.
Where in the ruins did you find this, anyway?
no subject
And I found it inside one of the residential rooms of that old castle, while we were exploring.
no subject
And we still don't really know if it has a purpose, or if it's decorational. I'd say the first order of business would be making it its own dedicated power supply.
no subject
Sounds simple enough. Shouldn't be too hard to find something that would work with it, right?
no subject
no subject
Got it. I'll see what I can come up with.
no subject
[Anything that could project an impression of him like that was something he'd definitely like to take a look at.]
