[today was the day that Dextera was going to put his horrible knowledge of cooking to use. to be honest, he was a little nervous but that's why he felt lucky he had help. there was more of a chance that everything would turn out okay.

the mute stared at the ingredients for a moment before looking up at Felix and scribbling something down.]

How does this work?

[he raises the egg slightly so the yolk starts falling out (in the bowl, luckily).]

This stuff. I don't know what it is.

Um...no. It can become so under the right circumstances, however.

Here...[He uses his good hand to lightly grip Dextera's wrist]...move your hands apart. We only need the part inside.

[he's about to ask what those things were but is distracted when he pulls the egg apart. so that's what the inside of an egg looks like.]

What do we do with it?

Add this...[He slides a cup of butter at Dextera] and mix it together, as you said.

All of it? [he still half-believed that mixing one thing with another could become very bad quickly.]

All together, yes. I imagine until it appears creamy, as the name suggests, then we'll add the sugar. Can't have sugar cookies without that [smirk]

Okay. [and he'll start mixing it together with a spoon since he figure he shouldn't use his hands. Dextera had to wonder if people did this often before the Blaze happened or if they just used the Cursebring Angel to do it.

[Felix hover close by, watching. Sometimes Dextera worried him. He forgot what he'd learned about the boy's world, from time to time, but at others he was bluntly reminded, like now.]

You're going well.

[he blinks. it was hard for Dextera to respond to a compliment that didn't follow with guilt-tripping him at some point so it takes awhile before he answers.]

[He gave the boy a small smile, then nodded at the bowl]

That should be good. Add the sugar now. The recipe says to add the flour mixture after that.

All of...? No...it's says [double checks]...a cup and a half. Here. [Shoves measuring cup at him again] Just like you did with the flour.

[okay, he can do that without messing up. hopefully. so he'll start measuring the sugar out. it reminds him of salt though.]

[Well, it's getting all over the counter, but that's what the ghosts are for, so.../shrug]

Good enough. Mix it all together now.

...it's funny how simple this really is, when you think about what it is that it turns into.

[He idly help steady the bowl while Dextera mixes]

It wouldn't work if we tried it backwards?

You can't really mix backwards. Once it becomes something new, there is usually no way to reverse it.

[he nods. that's something he can understand fairly easily. mixing things in his world was usually something that stayed for good.]

[Eventually they'll get it all looking more or less like cookie dough and Felix will stop Dextera from stirring]

That should suffice.

Now, if I understood the directions clearly, we should...

[He'll take a spoon in his left hand. It's rather awkward because he's right-handed, but he'll scoop out a spoonful of the dough and...frown at it]...hm. This will be difficult. But I think...

[With moving his shoulder too much he transfers the blob of dough to his right hand and begins to roll it around in his palm with his left. It's awkwardly off-center because of the sling, but it's more or less working]

There we go. Take a bit yourself, Dextera, and roll it into a ball like this.

[okay he'll give it a shot. the dough feels a little strange to him but he'll try it after a minute. it's off-center as well but he still feels happy it looks okay.]

Well... [He chuckles] they won't be especially attractive cookies, but it will have to do.

[He sets the 'ball' of dough onto the cookie sheet]

There, now we just have to do that a few more times.
