[For those who happen to wander into the lobby this afternoon, you'll see an unusual sight. The couch and chairs are all pushed up against the far wall and in the middle of the floor you'll find Apollo stretched out and...painting. A stack of large blank canvases are laying next to him. On his other side he has tubes of paint in all sorts of colors.

For anyone who steps closer, you will see that he's painting a bunch of flowers. Every few moments he'll switch colors and use his fingers to mix the paint on the canvas. You might even notice that he himself is covered in paint, with random spots of color decorating his arms and face. He might even have a spot of green in his hair. Yikes.]

[He finishes a particularly difficult flower and sits up with a sigh of contentment. Noticing a figure from the corner of his eye, he turns to look.]

You know, one of these days your eye could get stuck like that.

[He raises an eyebrow.]

I think you're so grouchy because you haven't had anyone to work your violent frustrations out on. Painting would be a good way to let those feelings out.

Come on, your can paint yourself pulling out some guy's spleen.

Oh come on. Try something new. I'll be fun. [He picks up one of the tubes of paint and tosses it back and forth between his hands, eying Midnighter thoughtfully.]

If you have to ask, then you really have been out of the game too long.

[And suddenly you have paint flying right at you. What will you do?]

Long enough. Or maybe I'm the one that's out of practice. [He pats the ground next to him. Sit, take a load off, dodge some more paint tubes.]

[ too bad so sad. he comes over anyway, but doesn't sit, instead looking at whatever it is on apollo's canvas. ]

[The canvas probably looks like a florist shop blew up one it. Different kinds of flowers are painted in scatters across it.]

It's not just this place. I've been out of the game for over three years you know. Getting stuck here is the most excitement I've seen in a long time.

[He squirts some yellow paint on the canvas and swirls it into a circle with his finger and then colors in the middle. As if he'd ever leave the sun out. It's like his artist signature or something.]

[ he barely stifles a grimace at all that colour, and then turns back to look at apollo, closely. midnighter reaches over to wipe a spot of paint from his cheek. ]

Yeah. I forget, sometimes.

[He leans into the touch, a small smile forming on his lips.]

I do to. Sometimes I even forget it's not just the two of us anymore. We have a daughter to get back to, and a team. Otherwise...[He sighs and shakes his head.]

[ he cups apollo's cheek. it's amazing how he doesn't look much different from how he does at home, in the midnighter's timeline. soon get blown to shit. ]

I don't like to be though, because nothing good comes from both of us being dark and broody. And we both know you corner the market on that.

[He smiles and presses a small kiss on Midnighter's hand.]

No. I'm going to tell you one day that I'm never going to let you die from anything other than old age. That holds for this place too.

[Apollo takes his hand and just holds it.] Well, you're in luck. Word around the water cooler is that no one stays dead here. There's a point in our favor.

[ he gets some more paint off of his face with the other hand. ] You know how it goes.

And I don't give it a shit; I'm not letting you die. And if you do it while I'm not watching, I'll kick your ass.

I love how you can turn concern for my well being into a threat. It's sort of sweet. [Just one of those things that's cute for Midnighter but creepy for anyone else. :p]

But you don't have to worry. I'm not so depressed I'd throw myself off the roof or something. You know me better than that.

[ it's just as well; apollo probably cuts off some grumpy remark about how he's not tortured. he gives him a another quick peck, and then leans back, nodding to the painting. ]

For the record, I have no idea what that's supposed to be.

They're flowers. I didn't really plan it out, I just kinda of went with whatever came to mind. And then I added a sun. [He shrugs.]

That's right. Everyone needs a way to wind down. [He dips his finger into a wet spot of green paint and then reaches out with it in an attempt to draw a green line down Midnighter's cheek.] Even us.
