[For those who happen to wander into the lobby this afternoon, you'll see an unusual sight. The couch and chairs are all pushed up against the far wall and in the middle of the floor you'll find Apollo stretched out and...painting. A stack of large blank canvases are laying next to him. On his other side he has tubes of paint in all sorts of colors.

For anyone who steps closer, you will see that he's painting a bunch of flowers. Every few moments he'll switch colors and use his fingers to mix the paint on the canvas. You might even notice that he himself is covered in paint, with random spots of color decorating his arms and face. He might even have a spot of green in his hair. Yikes.]

[ for the longest time, merlin just watches, standing silently in the doorway with a small stack of books in his arms. at last, though, he carefully sets them down on a chair and approaches the man in the center of the floor, footsteps nearly silent.

when he's nearer, he leans in to peer at the painting, then the man, who is.. enormous, by his standards. but then, merlin himself--though nearly seventeen--isn't even a full five feet tall, and slender as a willow reed. most people from more modern times, therefore, are somewhat gigantic to him.

still, despite that, there's no hesitation or fear on his features-- only a sort of pleased curiousity. ]

.. They're pretty, your flowers.

[Apollo considers his painting for a moment and then adds a squirt of yellow that he blends into the shape of a petal. It takes him a moment to notice he's not alone and then another to realize someone is speaking to him. He glances up with his customary friendly grin.]

Thanks. They're really simple so that makes them easy to paint. [He motions towards the stack of blank canvases.] You can join in if you want.

I'm not much of a painter, [ he demurs, dropping into a neat crouch by the other man to watch. ] I'm more of a musician.

[ for a few moments more, he's quiet, seemingly content watching the flowers form. at last, though, he shifts slightly, arms curling around his knees and chin resting on top of them. ]

.. Are you simply painting for pleasure?

Both skills rely on talented hands. And take some practice. [He shrugs and goes back to mixing the paint, brows furrowed in concentration.]

Yeah, there's not much to do around here so I try to entertain myself.

Hellboy stands there for a moment, observing, then goes in his pockets for a cigarette. He's about to grab his matchbook when he realizes that maybe ... this is oil paint, and maybe ... open flames aren't a good thing.]

Should you be using your fingers with that?

[He glances up with surprise, like he just realized he wasn't alone. His expression quickly changes to one of amusement.]

It's finger paint. That's kind of the point.

[Oh, finger paint. In that case, Hellboy lights his cigarette, not reacting to having startled l'artiste.]

By the name of it, I'd say so.

Is this some kind of art therapy deal, or a hobby?

[ the midnighter is standing at the foot of the staircase, but you can probably hear him eye-rolling from over there. ]

[He finishes a particularly difficult flower and sits up with a sigh of contentment. Noticing a figure from the corner of his eye, he turns to look.]

You know, one of these days your eye could get stuck like that.
