sixteenth spell cast

Um... Cole is back. He's back and he doesn't remember me at all... I'm not really sure how I feel about this, yet. The last time he was here he didn't seem to remember how he'd felt about me. Maybe it's for the best, but it's still a weird feeling.

[Phoebe's decided to spend the day perusing the library. She's already found a copy of her book, as strange as that is, and has decided a romance novel might be just the thing to cure the strange feelings that have cropped up from Cole's reappearance. So she's curled up in a comfy chair with a copy of Dusk. She's a few chapters in and making a very confused face at the book]

They sparkle?! That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Do people actually like these books or is it supposed to be some sort of parody or something...

((ooc: I'm back. From outer space! Sorry about my little unannounced hiatus, there, but I'm back full force, now! And, yes, Phoebe is currently reading Twilight and disapproving mightily. Feel free to bother!!))

[So, might as well start exploring this place. Cole wanders into the library, looking around. Even after that strange encounter with, what she says, the third Charmed One, Cole still needs to get his bearings.]

So... Lets see here... Fiction.

[And he starts wandering off in the direction of, what he thinks, is the fiction section.]

[She looks up as she sees him walk by]

Cole?

[GDIT. She mentally smacks herself. She REALLY needs to start thinking before opening her mouth.]

"Hm?"

[He turns around as he hears his name, spotting the speaker in a chair.]

"Sorry, do I know you? Or are you one of the voices from the book?"

[Phoebe stands up. Needn't face him sitting down, after all.]

You do. Or, rather, you did. I'm Phoebe Halliwell.

So, you're Phoebe, huh?

[He takes a moment to look her over]

Charmed, I'm sure. [Was that an intentional pun? Cole's expression remains intentionally neutral.]

[She raises an eyebrow] Your sense of humor is just as bad as I remember.

[She watches him as he looks her over, not moving. Her mind races, part of her wants to run, get as far from him as she possibly can... the other part remembers that he's from before he lost control, when he was trying to be good. Hanging over all of it was the overwhelming sadness that came from actually seeing the lack of recognition in his eyes. Her eyes betrayed some of that sadness as she crossed her arms in front of her stomach]

Finding your way around alright?

Mostly. Found the bar.

[He frowns slightly, catching that hint of sadness.] Still getting used to this whole place, but I think I'll manage.

Priorities, right.

[She shifts from one foot to the other. This isn't awkward at aaaaaaaaaall] D-Do you have any questions?

Well, if you say you know me as well as-

[Something makes him cut off that jab. Maybe it was seeing the sadness in Phoebe's eyes?] Sorry. I'm just kinda... Kinda overwhelmed by all this. Part of me wants to accept this, but there's this nagging feeling that I'm in danger here.

[She cringes slightly, looking away.]

For the most part we're safe. Sometimes the castle changes things... people. A month or so after I got here we all ended up on pirate ships. The one I was on was attacked and we had to defend the ship. In the time I've been here only two things like that have happened. Other than that, it's a relatively peaceful place. There's a group that keeps people safe, imprisons criminals in a jail here in the castle.

Good.

[Yep, definately awkward.]

So, uh, what you reading?

[Her eyes flick down to the book she'd set aside] What apparently passes for popular fiction in 2008. It's... I don't think I even have the words to describe how bad it is. [she chuckles]

So, we're allowed to read books from the future?

We won't remember any of this when we go home, so it doesn't really matter what we do.

So, there's law here, too? [Now he knows what those two were going on about]

I think the last time I was here...I was still ADA? Some Harry guy said I was being "SuperLawyer Dickhead," I think his exact words were.

[Oh, Harry. She laughs.] You came from around the same time you're from, now. Though... you remembered me last time.

[She shrugs, taking a couple of steps away and leaning back on a table] You put a vampire on trial for attacking people. You lost. She was on a loss, the castle made her lose control and the jury decided she wasn't responsible. There isn't law per se. There are a group of us who work together to try to keep everyone else safe from whatever the castle throws our way... and any residents who turn out to be evil.

Well, that explains a lot. [And why a few people weren't too happy to see him back here]

Was I...Was I really a dickhead?

I... honestly didn't talk to you very much while you were here. You didn't really make many friends with that trial, though.

Great.

[Cole sighs slightly.] Just what I need. I think I spoke to the vampire, actually.

You did? What did she have to say?

She made me promise to not conduct any more trials.

[She can't help it, she bursts out laughing] I can't say that I can blame her. I've been subjected to a couple losses since I've been here, it's not fun.

[Sobering, she looks at Cole] You have a chance to make a better first impression this time around, you know. Maybe make a few friends.

So this place can make us lose more? [Cole seems uneasy about that]

And you know what humans are like with prejudice.

It can put us on temporary losses. Like... when we got turned into things back home. So far I've been turned into a genie and... [a pause] turned bad. I wouldn't really call it evil since we didn't really do anything that bad. They usually only last a week or so.

I think you'll find that people are more accepting, here. There are aliens, elves, humans, gods, vampires, anything you could imagine. I don't think a demon would phase them all that much.

There's the past, too. I mean...

[He pauses and looks away] I think I convinced that Harry guy that I may not be the same person I was before.
