[ Everybody was gone. Everyone from home, anyway. It had been slowly coming for months but now she was all that was left. The last mutant. The last X-Man. And it sucked. In nine days she'd have been here for eight months. For most of that there'd been someone, a reason to actually keep doing everything that she did. She'd fought to keep the training going and to not give up. Now? Now she wanted to give up and she couldn't find a reason to not ]
I can walk through anything. Even here the only thing that's stopped me has been the Dead Zone. For every entrance there's an exit, even a hidden door. Maybe out further into the Dead Zone is where it's hiding and that's why we haven't found it - maybe it's further than we've been. I'd rather find it than wait to be picked off.

Hi.

Hi.
Kitty
Kitty.
Galadriel
Kitty forever
What troubles you so, dear one?

How long have you been here?

As I always have. I move forward because I must and because there is little else that may be done. I have seen many partings and I will see many more before the end; it is the nature of a life such as mine. I would I could tell you that they cease to bring pain, but I cannot. All I may say is that one grows more accustomed to bearing the weight and that the ache will dull with time.

Growing accustomed to it doesn't sound any easier.

I have scarce had a choice. [And her tone gets a little gentler] With partings here, we have, at least, the comfort that those for whom we care have been returned to their proper place. None of us belong here, truly.
[That's what she does to cope; she makes it not about her. Part of it is her natural concern for others. Part of it is that as a ruler and as a telepath, she's so used to hiding her emotions behind a mask, she can hardly help it. Whether that's healthy or not is up for debate.]

What if what happens when they leave isn't a comforting thing and being here was better? [ Because when this place is good she prefers it here - all the good and none of the hate, or anything bad from home ]

Was it better? Truly?
When first she arrived here, my granddaughter spoke of our world as a tapestry; a single thread may seem insignificant, but remove it and the whole may unravel. We exist here on borrowed time; pleasant it may be, but, whatever our fates, we must return to them. There are things more important than comfort, and even safety. We all have our duties and our parts to play.
I do not mean to suggest, however, that you are wrong to mourn; the heart is moved as it wills and it is natural and well that you should fear for your friends and miss their companionship. [And, truth be told? Galadriel will miss these most recent departures a great deal as well.]

Fate kind of sucks. [ Especially if it's unchanging fate ]
no subject
It may. But it is not unchangeable. [She's rather certain of this.]

At least there's no one here to know my future.
