[Today, Alleria is seeking refuge among the branches in the courtyard. Ordinarily, she finds pleasure in being outdoors, of course, but the mountains of leaves are not very conducive to taking thoughtful walks.

Instead, she sits high up in a tree, legs hanging off the edge of the limb, taking a whetstone to her sword. The journal lies open next to her, and it may pick up a few minutes of rhythmic scraping as she sharpens the blade in silence, mulling her words over before she speaks them aloud.

Tender emotions were not a thing that came easily to a Windrunner, after all.]

I have been here over a year, trapped in this place. I have seen allies and enemies alike come and go, and still others have stayed here, as I have.

I am sure this is a question that is asked frequently, but I still wonder: what is it that keeps some here, while others are expelled? Does the castle grow bored of us after a time? Does it give and take our loved ones so freely so as to make us hurt? Is it even capable of such sentience?

[A pause, and the scraping sound stops as she examines her blade.]

Will we ever get answers to these questions, or at the very least find someone who can give them to us?

I thought he was meant to be a benevolent god, no? Though I suppose omniscience would be a bit boring if you gave everybody straight answers all the time.

He said he can't mess with everyone's free will. I think it's because... people have to help themselves, rather than rely on something good to come along.

That's true! It's surprising sometimes but maybe because a lot of people come from worlds where they have to fight a lot, they're just a bit wiser than people from ordinary worlds like me?

What's your world like?

Diverse. Humans are but one of the sentient races, and one of the youngest. Elves and dwarves -- and gnomes, I suppose -- have been on Azeroth for ages before the humans even began to form kingdoms.

There is magic, of course, but it is dangerous if not wielded correctly. My people's legends tell of our ancestors' great misuse of magic that caused us to split into two kingdoms, though I have never seen the supposed other half.

[A pause, and she exhales a little roughly before continuing.] Too, there is war. We must be constantly vigilant regarding trolls encroaching on our lands, and more recently invaders from another world.

I am. I did not know the Dragonqueen before I came to this place, though I had ... met many of her children. [But let's not talk about that!]

I was sorry to see her leave this place, though I suppose she is better off. Did you know her well?

Not very well but we used to talk sometimes! She didn't like coming to the castle often.

I'm not surprised. Even to an elf, the magic in this place is palpable. I cannot imagine what it is like for a dragon.
