The blood is gone. But I know why it was there, now.

Also it seems I've missed my seventeenth birthday. It isn't the first time. I'm not in any sort of mood to celebrate though. I'll be in the library at the castle if anyone needs me.

It's in the heart of the Insolitus, the labyrinth of sorts here in the castle. It seems to be a former resident's room, yet it's filled with a variety of items that all have strange... well... abilities I guess you could call them.

These glasses were taken from the room by a friend of mine who's since gone home. I suppose I inherited them after that. I discovered their ability quite by accident. While you're looking through them (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8Zru9CrngQ), any fire within your sight is immediately put out.

[Oh man. That makes her smile like she hasn't in a while, though there's a pain in her chest at it as well. If only she had those years before. But still, to be a Volunteer and have these. She's more than touched.]

I can already think of several times in my life I could have used them. Have I told you about VFD? [It really isn't going to be a secret too much longer at the rate she's going, but then Five knew.]

[He cocks his head to one side] The VFD? No, I don't believe you have.

It was a secret organization. It started off as a group that collected information. All information. But there was a schism along the way. The letters stand for Volunteer Fire Department, but the name itself is ambiguous. Some members of the group preferred starting fires while others wanted to put them out.

Since then, the Villains have been systematically taking out the Volunteers. My parents were Volunteers, as were most of my guardians after they died.

It started with a very admirable goal. It's unfortunate that it splintered as it did... I see that far too often. [He smiles sadly, placing a hand on her shoulder]
