twenty-first phase [ action ]

[ Today you'll find one Kitty Pryde in the hallway. If you see her mid-whatever she's doing she's just standing there. She's trying something new out, at least to her it's noticeable anyway.

So what is she doing?

Dropping through ceilings.

Something she doesn't really do much as... landing's trickier. She's done a lot of walking through the walls and a little bit of ceiling/floor work but she wants to practise her landing.

Because if you see her drop through a ceiling on one of her many attempts they're not always that graceful. Think jumping from something high and landing on your feet crouched - it's what she's aiming for anyway.

And failing seven times out of ten. She'll keep going, and bruise herself up a lot as she tries to perfect it. Clearly she needs to work on her center of gravity, eh Brock? ]

[ ooc; feel free to run into her anywhere in the castle provided it's in a hallway. and drag her off to the clinic if need be, some of those landings are tricky ]

[She just smiles that enigmatic smile again.] Mayhaps.

[Of course. :) Haven't you learned this by now? And by way of an answer you only get a comparison to lore.]

Of old, LĂșthien felled the fortress of Angband and freed its captives. In my own way, I am no less powerful than she.

[Yep. She could destroy the castle single-handedly. And she doesn't actually admit that often, because the mun doesn't entirely understand how it works so enjoy that little vague answer, Kitty.]

She wielded naught but her own mind.

[This is why it's a very very bad idea to make her angry. Well. One reason.]

Is it? Sometime I must tell you more tales of the elder days, for it was a time, not only of strife, but of great deeds also.

[Shifting the topic away from herself? Yep.]

Perhaps somewhere more comfortable. [What is popcorn?]

[identity profile] inafadingcrown.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That would do quite well. [Teach her your modern ways, Kitty.]

[Oh, dear. You are just going to bombard her with questions, aren't you? When they reach the lobby, she'll just seat herself in one of those comfy chairs and wait for Kitty to do the same.]

Have I told you of the Undying Lands and the Valar? Or of the Silmarils? For if I have not, that is where we must begin, for much that follows is tied up with them.

[identity profile] inafadingcrown.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The Valar are beings of great power and light, sometimes called gods by Men. They reside in the Undying Lands, also called Valinor or Aman, as did many Elves in the days of old. In that place, all is unchanging and eternal; it is for that reason that the old of my kind, when weary and overburdened with memory, will sail to Valinor. For, fair as Middle-Earth may be, it wears on the heart to see all about you fade while you yourself stand still.

[identity profile] inafadingcrown.livejournal.com 2011-11-02 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
We call them by their names. [Okay, a more serious answer.] They sprang from the mind of Eru IlĂșvatar, the Creator, and are both of him and beings unto themselves. It is a difficult matter to explain to those not of my world.

[And here she smiles softly.] That is the nature of it. For many long years, my people, the Noldor, dwelt in Valinor, and it is there the great tales must begin.

My people were renowned as great craftsmen and greatest of all was Fëanor. Among his creations were the Simarils- jewels of such surpassing beauty and brilliance that they were said to have captured the light of the Two Trees within them. When those trees were destroyed in the troubles of those days, the Valar implored him to share their light with the world. But he grew overly proud and kept them to himself, showing them only in the presence of his closest kin. His pride made him easy prey for a fallen Vala- Morgoth, called in those days Melkor, for his corruption was not yet known. Through his devices, he set brother against brother and bred mistrust in Fëanor, until he was able to take the Simarils for himself and spirit them off to Middle-Earth.

[You're hearing her right.] They were.

Fëanor persuaded a great host of our people to follow him to Middle-Earth in pursuit of Morgoth and had them swear a most dreadful oath, condemning themselves to everlasting darkness should they fail. They knew it not, but the shadow of Morgoth still clouded the mind of Fëanor and, indeed, the minds of all the Noldor in those days. And so it was that they left Valinor, but not before tainting its shores with the blood of the First Kinslaying. For this, they were banished, forbidden to return to the ancient Elvenhome, and cursed with treachery among themselves.

[What Kitty should ask here is when Galadriel came to Middle-Earth. She's been so carefully telling the story from the third person perspective, but she was very active in the events of those days. Whether Kitty can hear the slight tinge of regret in her tone depends on how perceptive she's feeling today.]

Alas, no. I played my part in the tale, as did all my kin. Fëanor was my kinsman- my father's brother. [Vague answer is purposefully vague.]
