[Lilo yawns, a big yawn. But it stops short.]

...huh, wha?

[This isn't where she went to bed. This isn't her room. Where's Scrump? Where's the smell of her sister's coffee, the picture she keeps under her pillow? Out of the bed she goes, still in her mint-colored sleeping gown.]

...Where am I?

This isn't my house!

[A groan.]

This doesn't look too much like an alien spaceship... I don't think that they took me from earth...

Then what's going on here?!

Welcome to Cair Paradisa. [Her tone is actually pretty flat and dry and ... not exactly welcoming.]

[Excuse curious 6 year old for yelping at the fact that her journal just talked.] A talking book?! Wow!
Paradisa? I've never heard of a name like that. Wait a second, if we aren't on earth then... where are we?

[Just ... give her a moment to regain her sensitive Spartan hearing.]

Your journal doesn't so much as talk as transmit voices from the other residents with journals. I am Kat Sierra-320, I can be found in the hangar on the castle grounds.

Paradisa is the planet. Where it is in relation to Earth is currently unknown. You're in the Castle Paradisa. It's magic. [She still hates that word, and it's probably evident by the distaste in her tone.] If you don't believe me then wish for a hamburger or something.

Oh... Kinda like a walkie talkie? Kat Sierra-320... That's a really long name. I'll call you Kat! I'm Lilo!

Magic?! [Oh, Lilo loves the word.] I'm in a magic castle?! What kind of magic can a castle do...?
[She will. And in a moments notice, the pizza she wished up appears.] It can give you FOOD?!

Lilo. Sierra-320 It's my service number, I'm in the military. [but 'Kat' is fine, it's been a while since she's exclusively gone by Noble Two.]

It can do a lot, but not all of it is good. For one, its taken something from you just for your being here.

It can give you anything you want, as long as it's not too complicated, alive, or a weapon.

Oh... The military? That sounds scary. Elvis was in the army!

It's taken something from me? Well... I lost my doll and I haven't seen my sister around anywhere. It can't take people, can it?

I guess it's good no one can wish up a weapon, huh?

It can take things. It can take memories and abilities, as well. You might not even know what it took, not for a while.

[Kat can only chuckle at that. No, she hasn't been building a massive armory or anything ...] Certainly makes it harder, doesn't it?

Well, Elvis is a singer! Back home, I had a whole bunch of his albums! He's really good at singing.

Oh... Really? That's kind of sad. I hope I figure out whatever it took soon.

I-I don't really think I'd need something like a weapon!

Back home on Earth, you mean?

I hope it's something you don't mind living without. [Kat ahd thought she knew what her Loss was, but lately she's been getting the sneaky suspicion it's not as simple as she thought it was.]

Hopefully you won't, but in this place you never know. Still, there are people willing to protect others; if you're ever in trouble, just ask for any member of the Peace Patrol.

Back on earth, yeah!

Well, she's the one that puts me in trouble after she yells at me! But she doesn't yell all the time. Just sometimes.

What sort of 'sometimes'?

[She can't help but chuckle at that. It was that sort of vigor that was appreciated in her program.] I don't see how she would have any reason to yell.

I don't get it either! She called me weird so I hit her. I guess it's just a big sister thing. [le shrug.]

You would have done well in my program. [That ... may or may not be a compliment, depending on Lilo's opinions of children being trained to fight an alien invasion.]

Your program? What kinda program is it?!

It was a military program, the Spartan Project. In my world, aliens were wiping out the human race, and we were the only ones who seemed to make any progress against them. [Not thqt it didn't still seem hopeless at times]

I knew aliens would take over the world someday... [Sighs] No one ever listens. I'd help you guys!

It wasn't easy, though. Nothing about the program was easy.

I didn't think something like that would be easy!

Imagine the hardest day you've ever had, and then imagine doing that every day. [Also, it got harder as she got older, but it also became a way of life.]

...Wow. That does sound really hard. I-I think I wouldn't be that great at that.

It wasn't for everyone. Just getting into the program meant you'd gone through a great deal already. [While the Spartan-IIs had a slightly different beginning, one thing Kat knew for sure is all Spartan-IIIs had one thing in common; they'd been orphaned by the Covenant.]
