Has anybody else noticed an increase in crows lately? I'd swear I see one nearly every time I step outside.

Wesley's willing to cooperate for the greater good, not because everything's all gravy. I'm just reminding you, since it seems like you could do with some, that you're continuing to dig yourself a bigger and bigger hole any time you get involved with something. Now that Elena is here, I hope something will actually be done about it.

I know that's how Damon used to rely on her, and for some reason he keeps trying to put me in that position now. He thinks there's something...romantic going on. At least that's how he keeps acting.

I am doing something about that and again, I think I covered how this is none of your business, Lana. We were friends once and I killed that chance. I get that. Why can't you? You told me you'd never speak to me again. Or, you told me to never speak to you. And lo and behold - you're calling me out. Seems all I get are threats these days. Or commentaries on how I live my life. Care to add to the pile?

When it affects my friends, yes it is my business. I did tell both you and Damon to stay away from me, and I was more than happy to stay away from you. But if my friends get involved, you can bet I'm getting involved to make sure they're okay. And even if I didn't want to, Damon's made it clear I have little choice in the matter.

He asked for my help, and agreed to stay away from my friends if I concede.

You can drop the sarcasm, Stefan. You have to admit that this could turn into a real problem if left unchecked, and not just for me. I know you care about him.

He said that he attacked those people for me. Because he wanted to be a hero. Did you know? Can you even imagine what it felt like, to suddenly realize that you're responsible for other people's pain; for someone's death?

I'm not about to become responsible for more.

I turned into a real problem left unchecked. And I do care about my brother and it sounds like you do, too. Maybe not in the way he wants you to, but you wouldn't tell me this if you didn't.

I know it's not my fault! But I'm not the victim here, either. The people out there who have no idea what they're facing, and who lose their loved ones on a regular basis, have been forced into that role. I live among them, and I see them every day. Their families, their habits, their likes and dislikes, and their...simple pleasures.

Those people don't deserve to suffer just because people like us, intruders in their world, can't keep track of our own. My feelings for you or Damon are not the point. It's my feelings for the people who belong here that drive me to do whatever's necessary to help them.

The people aren't in any more danger then any other day. We aren't Riful or his or, or her followers. Damon will be dealt with. Damon -- I'm sorry he did this for you but don't think you could've done something to stop him. Damon is headstrong and gets what he wants.

Well I'm not entirely sure what he wants right now, but I didn't tell you this so you could lecture him and we can all move on. That isn't going to help anyone, and wouldn't end anything. You can barely keep yourself out of trouble.

I'm going to agree to his terms, because it keeps my friends safe, at the castle and in town. I'm telling you because I'd like to meet Elena.

Elena is very important to Damon. And she used to be...even more important. I suppose I just want to see what kind of person she is. Maybe she could give me some answers.

I think that you two have lived long enough that it's become too easy for you to properly understand the stakes according to a human. I think you get too wrapped up in each other's scandals, and make it worse for yourselves, and deadly for others.

Elena is just a human, isn't she? [ Other than the Katherine doppelganger part, of course. ] I want to know how she perceives this situation with the two of you and how it affects others. I can understand that better than any explanation either of you could give me.

I could ask Caroline, but I get the feeling she doesn't like me very much. Besides, she's a vampire too, right?

But I guess that's none of my business, right? I keep trying to tell myself that with all of this, and somehow I keep getting sucked back in. At least this time I can take responsibility for it, and it is my business now.

So please, when you can find the time, it would be nice if Elena and I could be introduced. When you're...better, I guess. I'm not in any rush.
