[ Like his brother, Stefan can read. But unlike his brother he does not take any of this at face value. He is not happy. In fact, he sounds downright testy. ]

The name Paradisa is Greek in origin. It means garden or orchard. It’s fitting, ending up here. Oh, and Katherine, if this is your elaborate way of influencing my mind, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Elena and I may not be together but I will never love you again. You will never understand mine or anybody’s idea of paradise. You only serve yourself and if Damon didn’t entomb you I will find you and do it myself.

Popular and infamous don't always go hand in hand in this case. But it sounds like you might have enough manners for the both of you.

About seven months.

That's a long time. [ But, you know, not for an immortal like himself. ]

I've been here longer before, but I don't remember it. That sort of scenario isn't so uncommon here.

Damon's only been here for three months. [ assuming he wanted to know that as well ]

Are you and Damon...friends?

[ stretched out silence is the only response at first, before she speaks ]

Okay. I wasn't expecting any of this.

No one really does. But I've got a feeling you'll adjust quickly, so long as you keep your priorities in order.

And what should those priorities be?

That's for you to figure out. Of course it helps to have friends to keep perspective.

'Getting out' is usually the number one priority for everyone at first, but along the way it's common for it to get nudged aside, little by little, as people actually make lives for themselves here.

It's hard to find the balance.

People...live here. [ A longer pause while he thinks about the implications with that. ] What do you do if I may ask?

I live in the city, and I actually have a mortgage to pay off here [ TWO ACTUALLY ] so unlike a lot of residents I have to work. Nothing fancy, just a restaurant hostess.

[ also she stalks everyone ever via Watchtower but...you don't need to know that, bro ]

It almost sounds like I've settled down, I guess, but I really haven't. It just...helps to have something reliable to do. A girl can sit and read in the library for only so long.

[ Reading. That would be good, actually. ]

People have jobs here, then. I can't remember the last time I had a job. [ Because, he's ... not a 162 year old vampire. And, see, Lana. That's creepy. ]

How long did it take you before you settled in? [ not down ]

...I'm not sure, really. I got used to strange things happening back home, so it was probably quicker for me than most. It was so gradual I can't really name a date or location when it 'clicked', if it ever did.

I'd say probably just under a month, though. That was when I left the castle and moved into the city. Luckily for me, I owned a house the last time I was here, and kept my old notes there. It was a crash course.

Strange things do happen. What currency do they use here?

They're called caisos, and unfortunately there is no exchange rate for any American money, I tried. You can always ask the castle for money though. [ she doesn't, but she's paranoid ] Or just ask it for whatever you want, if you don't like shopping.
