Is there a limit to how much we can ask of the Castle?

I'm sorry.

[ She can also be found at the gym, as always, practicing.

You may hear echoes of this music from outside, accompanied by the occasional sound of wood tapping against linoleum. Once she finishes a round, she takes a few minutes to breathe, then does it again. Sometimes she rehearses a part many times, perfecting it. And sometimes, after a good round, she curtsies to herself in the mirror and smiles.

But Nina doesn't smile when she dances. ]

[Wes doubts she's as fine as she claims, but he won't press.]

He must have been very pleased to call you that.

It's sweet, isn't it?

[ If you can hear a smile, she's beaming to herself at the memory. ]

Oh but there's nothing between us. I never--you know. I'm sorry, I'm going on about myself.

It never crossed my mind, actually. Not that I've seen you dance, of course, but you don't strike me as the sort to take those kinds of shortcuts.

Don't apologise, it's helping me get my mind off of my own situation a little.

I'm glad.

[ She knows he means well, but the words frigid little girl is ringing in her ears now, because, of course, she would never strike anyone as that sort. Nina wracks her mind for something else to say, to distract him. ]

It was always my dream to dance the Swan Queen. The Black Swan was hard, but I did it. The audience was chanting my name, they loved me.

That has to be one of the most demanding roles for a ballerina to undertake. Congratulations.

I wish I could have seen it. Well, except for the part where you had to dance while injured.

I could--I don't want to force you or anything but--I don't mind dancing for you. I mean, I would love to.

[Wes is a little taken aback by her choice of wording, but he can't deny that he would love to see her dance.]

Well, if it's not an imposition, perhaps I could watch you practice sometime.

[It's not a creepy thing, is it? He's feeling a bit self-conscious now.]

[ It doesn't even cross her mind that it would be creepy. These past few days, she has been dancing for the mirrors--and sometimes she needs to stop to make sure her reflection isn't... acting up. Company chases the ghosts away. This is Nina beaming. ]

Whenever you're free.

If you're practicing this afternoon, perhaps I could stop by? Is there a studio, or--?

I am. I'm just at the gym. They have nice studios here.
