¤ 17 - Last one standing

[he hadn't heard from him in a while. It was worrying, but... he never expected him to actually be gone. So much so that the blank door doesn't register right away.]

It can't be...

[he opens it, finds the room empty, and stands there for a hanging moment] ...No.

[a minute goes by, and he wavers on his feet. He almost drops to his knees and lets this hit him in a defeated rush. ...Almost. Instead, something inside catches him. He knows his uncle wouldn't want him to let rage overtake him, but... well, Iroh is more than a world away now. The fire builds, and he remembers someone suggesting that he should just take the castle down, brick by brick. It had been a tempting idea at the time... and now, what was stopping him?

So, like a certain similar moment a few months ago, a fiery explosion rocks one of the castle hallways. This time, it's lucky floor number 9. With a roar, a fireball blasts into the hallway from room 913, and continues from there.

He'd really like nothing more than to burn this place to the ground.]

Whoah! [Quorra nimbly rolls away from the fiery onslaught. As she does this, she detaches the baton on her ankle and activates its energy sword. Brandishing both the sword and disc, she issues a final warning.]

No one is trying to harm you--we just want you to stop!

Shit! DOC, LOOK OUT!

[Mark dives into the cover of a nearby door-frame. isn't that what you're supposed to do with this? or is that earthquakes? ... shit. all his disaster lessons from homeroom are eluding him. this sucks. there's got to be some way to stop this guy ..]

[Thankfully, the glasses keep any of the fire from reaching the Doctor. Still, he jumps back a bit out of instinct. Hearing Mark yell behind him he takes a few steps back, looking around.]

Right. It's going to take more to stop him than I thought. Mark. You and I are going to get everyone else off this floor. That rain's keeping the flames at bay, but no telling for how long. We don't know how bad this might get, best to have everyone out of harm's way, hmm?

Everyone? [he blinks. there's the TINIEST hesitation there. they'll all hear his voice, have a face to connect it to --

-- or they could all burn to death, Hunter, get a fucking grip on yourself. Some things are more important. he nods]

Okay. I'll take this end of the hall, since I don't have ... crazy ... magic ... whatever the hell those are type glasses.

[Nonchalantly: ] You know, I could always just turn him into a gerbil or a sandwich or something if you want to go ahead and end this.

[was hanging back, curious as to what all these people were gonna do

To Alex:] Please don't. Fire breathing gerbils are probably hard to keep in cages.

[Finally takes a step closer to Zuko:] Oi! What the hell are you doing?? [besides the obvious, that is]

Well yeah, but a fire-breathing sandwich probably wouldn't be that bad.

[Still, this girl doesn't look like one to mess with, so Alex just continues fighting the fire with her stream of water. For kicks, she throws some of it over onto Zuko.]

[he manages to catch what Quorra shouts over the flames]

Stop?? You should be helping me!

[to emphasize his point, he turns to hit the other wall, bursting the glass of the windows-- taking brick and mortar with it.]

Probably give you indigestion. [muttermutter]

Dammit, Zuko. Did you turn deaf as well as stupid?? [need. to get fire idiot's. attention.]

[comes back over, still wearing the glasses, so most of the fire in Zuko's room (at least, what hasn't already been doused by Alex's water stream) goes out]

We need to do something. If we can't stop him, we can at least get him out of here so he doesn't burn the castle down around our ears.

[QUORRA IS APPALLED BY YOU, MISTER. She shields her face from the spray of shattered glass and other debris, but continues to move forward.]

Why are you doing this?!

[AS SHE SHOULD BE. He notices the others there now, but they only have enough of his attention for him to briefly glare]

Get away from me!

[and then he continues taking his aggression out on the thing he's really angry at-- the castle. Or, at least this wall of it. Punching out another chunk of the weakened structure. ...Hopefully there are no people out there under the window]

[Ohh, what to do! She doesn't want to hurt him, but he doesn't seem terribly keen on reason. She decides that she just has to make a move, and so as he's punching the wall, she leaps forward, attempting to sweep kick him off of his feet. Her martial arts ain't magic, but it's still pretty solid.]

[distracted, he finds his feet suddenly not underneath him anymore, and he hits the ground. He's only there for half a second though, before he's kicking himself back up onto his feet... and twisting around to face his attackers]

[aand she's using this nice distraction to tackle Zuko from the side.]

[Quorra assumes a defensive stance; her expression is wide-eyed and concerned, without a trace of hostility.] Would you please just listen?

[it looks almost like he's opening his mouth to shout something back at Quorra-- but he's suddenly taken down from the side instead. With a whoof of air shoved out of his lungs, he hits the ground for a second time!

Hope you're ready to act quickly girls, because he's immediately trying to roll and knock Natsuki back]

[When she sees Natsuki bumrush Zuko, she rushes to help. Mostly she's trying to keep Zuko's arms pinned, as she noticed that much of his fire seemed to explode from his fists.]

[briefly wonders if she interrupted something, but she's already moving to keep as much of her weight on him as possible. Hope you won't get a sore back later, Zuko.]

[it's a good thing that there are two of them, because goodness... the boy is strong. His arms getting pinned to the ground helps to keep him from gaining enough momentum to throw Natsuki off however, so he's mostly stuck struggling.]

Argh! Let me go!

[they also seem to have cut off most of the fire by immobilizing his hands, leaving him with nothing else to do but snarl an angry snort of flame from his mouth as he tries to wrench his arms away from Quorra]

[No interruptions--Quorra hardly knows what's happening here! She keeps a firm grip on Zuko, and though she looks small, she has an unnatural and definitely inorganic strength in her muscles.] You must calm yourself.

[a wary look at Zuko's attempt to get free, but hey. This girl seems to be doing fine.

Now what happened the last time he did this...?] Who left?

[he hesitates when he hears Natsuki's question, but then his struggling resumes with renewed fury behind it]

It doesn't matter, now get off of me!

[Quorra doesn't budge.] You're in an agitated state. I don't think it would be wise to release you.
