I'm pretty sure I've ate, slept, and abused the never-ending stream of hot water in this place.

How about I meet you for Pie and coffee when you get off shift. [she's assuming that she's working, because - really - Jilly is like Jo in that sense of working until someone tells her that she's been there too long]

Anyone who was worried, I'm okay.

Anyone who doesn't know why other people were worried? [an amused tone] Don't worry about it now, 'cause I'm fine. [a pause] I am vetoing any camping trips in the near future, though.

I've been trying to answer questions about what happened, 'least when people ask 'em. For the most part though, I'm on the side voting that this wasn't the castle. If there are sides.

So, if anyone else wants to ask me anything about that whole week I was gone - I'm an open book.

When are you gonna be free for ... [thinks about it] ten minutes? I went by the room this morning and you must've been wandering. You do realize that if you get lost, I'm gonna have to come find you.

I ditched it... Chase, it seriously is just a sprain. I'm being careful, but I can't just immobilize my arm.

You can't just immobilize your arm. [yes, he's using that very dead tone of someone who's not at all amused. look who's in trouble now]

Just a sprain, yeah? Now let me tell you something. If you don't do as I say, instead of your little injury taking another week or two to heal, it's going to take ten weeks. Can you imagine living with this for the next two months? Do you want to?

[she just walks in, since she lives there too]

Are you always this much of a pain in the ass? [door-slam!]

Well, are you? [chase puts the new bandage down on the sofa and walks over to her. he's not impressed by the slamming of the door by the way]

Take a seat. [watch him frown. you're in so much trouble now]

[glares, she used her GOOD hand to slam the door and she'll just stand there]

I didn't do anything wrong, Chase. I just didn't follow all the billion directions you gave me.

It was an easy set of directions, and you didn't think you could follow it?

Now sit. [he stabs his finger at the sofa]

[there's an annoyed angry sound, that comes with her exhaling, but she'll sit]

Easy sure, practical - not so much.

[chase sits next to her and gently takes hold of her wrist, glad that it's still wrapped at least]

The bruising's normal but let me repeat to you what you should be doing just so you can get this healed real quick, okay? Are you listening? Or do you need me to write it down for you somewhere? Maybe get a ghost to keep an eye on you just so I know you're not purposely being careless? [do they do that? because he would definitely sic one on her if she keeps being this stubborn]

[sighs, again, but sits still]

I'm not being purposely careless. I just left the sling in my room, because I didn't want Sam to worry any more than he was. He gets this ... wounded puppy look. It's not exactly my favorite.

You're worried about getting your boyfriend worried so you decided to play your injury down? [just stares]

You do understand that he's not an idiot? At least I hope so. [wow. years of working with house has definitely rub off on him. chase slowly unwraps the bandage and when he sees the bruising, he tells jo to keep her hand elevated while he quickly goes to grab some ice]

Icing it usually only works during the first forty eight hours after an injury but since the bruising seems to be worsening, I'm going to ice the area for fifteen minutes. You've got time?

[it's logical thinking, seriously]

I was gone for a week, Chase. [she's not being defensive, just honest] No one would go look with him until Bela went missing too... I just, he's got a lot on his mind right now.

[she's pretty sure that whatever is on his mind is what sent him out of his room earlier]

I've got time. [nods] Ice it up.

[chase just sort of shakes his head but doesn't say anything else regarding how jo's choosing to handle her boyfriend. not his problem]

You're going to have to keep your wrist elevated at all times. Wear the sling. You'll get used to it and it's not such a big deal. It'll help reduce the pain. [chase tears the top of the paper cup off and presses the ice down on her wrist, continuously moving it over her skin]

Keep away from heat. No hot showers. It's only going to make the area swell up and it's going to hurt even more. When you go to bed, either keep the sling on or rest your hand on a pillow. You need to keep it above your heart level. [he looks at her] Just for the next few days.

Are you going to remember to do this?

[she nods]

I'll do it. [and she winces at the pressure of the ice]

Okay, we need to talk about something so I don't realize how much this hurts.

What'd you do today?

[he makes sure to keep her wrist elevated as he continues to ice her hand] I was at the library for a while, dropped by the clinic to check the place out, was told all I had to do was decide what times I'd be available for work and oh, met a girl this morning for breakfast. Ruby something.

I'm going to give you some painkillers and I want you to take one before bed.

[the hand that was so nicely resting on the ice? Gets jerked backwards, rather quickly as she stands up]

You met - Ru-- [aaaand] Fuck that hurt! [sits back down, glaring at him and sets her hand out] You met Ruby? Blonde? Bitchy?

Yes. Ruby. [looks at her with a what the fuck expression] And she's all right. [he gets back to icing her wrist]

Now are you going to keep your wrist elevated at all times? Or am I going to have to send a note out to Sam to make sure you do? [because you know he will]

[glares] Yes, I will - but, Chase, Ruby ... she's not someone I think you should be buddying around with.

One - she's a demon and two - she's the demon that is responsible for Lucifer walking topside back where I'm from.

So, you girls aren't friends and I'm somehow supposed to choose? [yes, he's decided to completely ignore the part about ruby being a demon]

Fine. Be friends with her. [dismissively, and really it's probably good that he doesn't immediately go Demon Oh No! But... this Demon, this specific Demon - Jo knows is trouble]

I just don't want her anywhere near my room or my stuff. If my salt lines get disturbed? I will move all your shit up to the top floor of a tower. I will force the castle to move you.

[he's really just more focused on elevating the pain from her injured wrist at this point and this whole girl fight drama business is really not interesting to him but chase is going to nod and agree because you don't mess with girls and their little bitchy fights with each other. you just don't]

All right. But really, it was just one breakfast. I doubt she'll be making any visits up here. [and a beat] But I'll keep that in mind. No going near your stuff. [he gives her a smile]

Now please take care of yourself. No moving your wrist about. No testing to see if it feels better. It's not going to feel better until at least a few more days. You can try to circulate your wrist later. In about five days, maybe. But I want you to come see me before that. We'll work on it together.

[when she's better? She will kick your ass if you become 'better' friends with THAT Demon]

So this is what you do, right? Because your bedside manner is kinda shitty.

[you call this a shitty bedside manner? obviously jo hasn't been to too many hospitals before or she's just been getting really lucky. chase decides to ignore the comment]

Now I mean it. I'll send a note to Sam if you start slacking. I'll be keeping my eye on you.

[eh... she could just be venting]

I know, I know. I'll be good.

Good. [and with that he finishes icing her hand and starts wrapping it up again with the bandage]

Get some rest, Jo. Why don't you take a quick nap in your room? I'll wake you up in a couple of hours.

[glances to the clock...]

I'll just stay here tonight. Sam went out, he was ticked off at something going on in the journal. I couldn't find it, so I'm just guessing it was filtered.

[exhales] Thanks, Chase. I'll rest in a bit, I'm just gonna... [half-laugh] sit here, I guess.
