[Early this morning, everyone received an invitation to an interesting event.

Elle Bishop welcomes you to the marriage of her daughter, Alice to Oliver.
Join us in this Blessed Union at the Sol en las Colinas Church at 6PM.
Reception to follow.

Now it's a bit early, but Oliver is a bit nervous... and the guests are starting to arrive - he's just not sure what to expect. Especially, given what he did late last night to Alice's father, The Monarch.]

[ooc: Sections will go up as the event progresses, feel free to tag in at any time, to anything, backtagging is welcome - questions to IM - onlysayinghello - the ceremony itself will start once I make sure everyone is online]

[They say it has the best lasagna this side of the city, but tonight the specialty might as well be changed to secrets and hostility. Families come here, from time to time, hoping to get away from the drama and stress of their daily lives. No one has to cook, there are no dishes to wash, and the food (when it's not being thrown across the restaurant) is exceptional.

Tonight, it seems, that it's been selected by the main families of our fair city. With the Monarch, Sylar, Devereaux, and Hammer families all hoping to just put their own small troubles aside for a good meal, they'll all be shocked to learn... that was exactly what everyone was planning.

Through the journals, there's a light sound of dishes being cleared off of tables and the low murmur of quiet conversation. As the evening progresses, we can only hope the low peaceful environment holds through the night.]

- Table for four? - Right this way...

[ooc: Group Loss Fun! I hope I got everyone in the tags... if I missed someone, please add yourself. Thread-jacking is encouraged!! Party Crashers will come in at varied times]

I'm not really interested in long trips, or putting myself out in the wilderness... but all the discoveries that are found on the upcoming trip will be shared with those of us who remain behind, correct?

Throughout my stay in Los Angeles, I was unable to contact the Jeffersonian or Dr. Brennan privately. I was also seemed unable to find a way to leave the city, which is strange. I tend to be very skilled at reading maps.

It seems my efforts where very much "in vain" as I've been moved back to the confounds of the castle, where I know my ability to contact anyone from my world is extremely limited.

I suppose asking of anyone else had more luck than me seems rather pointless, as if someone was successful in perpetrating an escape, they likely wouldn't be able to continue communications with us. However, I don't like to make assumptions, so the technically unasked question still stands. Did anyone manage to leave the city?

I find the abilities of whoever is in charge of this castle astounding. I'm still not sure how they are able to accomplish introducing mind altering chemicals so easily to the residents.

... I may have to begin regular drug tests on all the food I consume here.

[Whether they can or can't, Zack is chilling a little ways away from the Wildkat with the kitten Hodgins gave him for Christmas, securely kept in a cat carrier. His research shows this is one of Beth's favorite hangout spots :(]

((OOC. Anyone's welcome to come across him though :3 Please, bug the strange man walking around outside with a poor, traumatized looking animal in a crate XD ahaha))

Then you have the tricarboxylic acid cycle. The acetyl-CoA transfer the two carbon acetyl group to the compound, oxaloacetate, to form the compound, citrate.

Um... what is tri-tricaroinic?

Tricarboxylic acid. It's named for the chemical structure, which contains three carboxyl groups.

Are car-boxyl groups... are those groups of... [she pauses to look at her book] c-carbon?

Carbon, Oxygen and Hydrogen, specifically. You need all three elements to form a carboxyl group. ... Two elements of Oxygen specifically.

O-Okay, but, um why do you need two?

You require two elements of Oxygen properly share the number of electrons it would take to complete each element on it's own. One of the Oxygens and Hydrogen are already bonded together to form Hydroxide, which are then bonded to the Carbon. The Carbon also shares a double bond with the second Oxygen, completing the number of electrons it needs in it's electron shell to be fully stable.

((OOC. Zack, Nanako, Omg guys, I haven't studied cellular respiration and the elements in forever. If one if you is into biology and I messed this up badly, please don't kick me))

Hodgin's comments about numbers this month made me realize something I have not be keeping very good track of. ... In less than a weeks time, my stay here will officially be over a year. I'm not sure how to take this news. It's something of an aggravation to me, as I've done very little in terms of not only assisting in finding ways back home, but in coming to even vaguely understand the causes behind the general phenomenon that is Paradisa.

[a pause]

I did get a cat and several small unusual plant specimens during my extended stay, however.

Though I've now read several books on the subject of feline behavioral, feeding and grooming patterns, very few cover the subject of naming, and the ones that do have so little about it that they might as well left it out to begin with.

I could just be practical and call her cat.

[a pathetic mewing sound]

But I get the distinct feeling she wouldn't like that.

Does anyone have any good name suggestions?

Phoradendron....

The genus is easy to identify, though I'm unable to determine the exact species. My knowledge of botany is rudimentary at best.

However, I do know for a fact that mistletoe doesn't actually cause people to kiss. In fact, it's a parasitic plant that typical grows on several different deciduous species. ... I'm not sure where the connection with romance first came from.

((OOC. He's sitting in the library while writing out his 'logical' babble, if people want to use this as an open/kiss post too))

With most materials made easily accessible here, it should be fairly easy to maintain previous holiday traditions. Though... without family, Thanksgiving doesn't seem like much in the ways of holidays.

Are there any trained medical professionals here that have experience with blood and fibrous tissue? I... am noticing something odd about the victim found by the staircase earlier today, but unfortunately lack the proper training in those particular areas to properly evaluate the abnormalities.

((OOC. Assume this was earlier, and I don't fail ;_;))

[kay, this is even freaking Zack out a little ;_; So it's time to use logic to make things less horrifying!]

It's plausible that some form of flesh eating bacteria was able to quickly spread across the body, and I suppose in this scenario it would have spread to the brain, which would explain the lack of proper motor skills, communication abilities and reasoning.

However, if that's the case, direct contact with infected people would likely result in a transfer of the disease...

[... logic, you failed him miserably D:]

With the castle's current conditions, there doesn't seem to be a way to properly quarantine them all.

... Focus of study in school?

It should be possible to cause temporary amnesia, but to do so in a way that allows that level of clarity in thought should only be possible in theory.

[the recorded sound of walking and a sudden stop. A bit of a pause before...]

Wings? ... It seems a bit out of place at this time for costumes. I believe Halloween is in... exactly two months from now.

[Stares at him for a good moment before responding] How long have you been here exactly?

With the conclusion of August, it will have been a little over seven months.

[Staaaaare] And you're still accusing people of being in costume when you see something that's not normal for your world. [rustle of feathers]

The existence of other worlds that support life still seems highly improbable. As does the existence of a humanoid who has wings, especially when taking into consideration that wings on a bird act in place of arms, there's no logical reason why they would be growing from someone's back if they even could exist. From and evolutionary standpoint it makes very little sense.

And I suppose a magical, kidnapping castle makes so much more sense. [An annoyed noise as he rants on before he is hit (gently) upside the head with one of those improbable wings] Proof enough?

[pause, blink blink. Staring at her now, not having expected the wings to have moved]

((OOC. Zack, Shayera. Open post :3))

Why would someone be told they need to get a haircut and change of wardrobe if for several years it's been suitable by other's standards.
[identity profile] thekingofthelab.livejournal.com
It seems many of the wishes aren't going well for the ones who made them. Not surprising in the end, magical castles are hardly to be trusted, especially when magic is so unpredictable as it is. I seem to have gotten lucky so far, but I won't count on that to continue, there's no telling when it's powers will turn on me too.

I wonder if there are any measures that can actually be used to counter it before it happens.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
