Ah. I can't be certain since I haven't been here that long, but I've been reading and it seems like all the holidays people speak about in this journal can be cross-referenced with a world... or a series of worlds maybe (??*), all called "Earth."


Is it because a majority of people are from a version of Earth or is there a different reason?

... How many people here are from "Earth," and is this a (somewhat) accurate representation of it, or does it change depending on which you come from?

Philosopher's Stone

Not necessarily a stone. It can be a rock, a liquid, a powder or even [a pause] a sentient being. Though that wasn't in Doctor Marcoh's research notes...

The primary value of a Philosopher's Stone is it's ability to bipass the laws of Equivalent Exchange in Alchemy. To create something out of nothing.

"One cannot gain anything without first giving something in return.
To obtain, something of equal value must be lost."
-Alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange

However, in order to create a Philosopher's Stone, the expenditure of raw materials is still required. (With it you can create "something" out of "nothing", but to create it you still need "something" to make "something.") [an uncomfortable pause] In this case, the raw materials are human lives.

With the use of the Philosopher's Stone, things like "Human Alchemy" become possible - namely, the ability to .. to bring a person back from the dead.

Also, when placed inside of a person, the stone is able to repair any damage done to the individual automatically.

The Castle

Able to create something out of nothing (when you ask for things and they appear.)
Able to bring people back from the dead (I've been told? I haven't seen it for myself...)
Automatic damage repair.

Dissimilarities

The Philosopher's Stone has a finite amount of power. The Castle appears to be self-sustaining. The only thing I can think of is possibly ongoing creation using the... things it takes (the losses; permanent ones to cover the energy it would expend to bring us here, the temporary ones to cover what energy we consume while staying) from us as raw materials instead of human lives? In which case it's not exactly like the Stone but too similar to ignore...
