Look, no offence, lady - Claire's like a sister to me and I wanna pummel Sam's ass for what he did - but are you friggin' serious?

Well, Claire is my granddaughter, and she isn't the only one he hurt here. Loss or not, I'm sure Elle would like some justice for what happened to her as well -- and her body doesn't magically fix itself.

Alright -- I get it. Okay? If it'd been somebody else, I'd want to see them pay, too. But that wasn't Sam. And Sam's gonna wake up from this thing hating himself for what he did to Claire and Elle. I know him more than I know anybody, and I know he's gonna be beating himself up over this for a long time. That not punishment enough for you?

There are healers in the clinic. Get them to do their thing and she'll be fine.

Even the most remorseful people have to atone for their actions. I don't know how things work in your world, Mr. Winchester, but in mine, even those with an excuse have to understand the consequences of their actions.

Yeah. They do. But what part about that wasn't Sam are you not getting? Claire and Elle have been here long enough to understand this. Sam - the real Sam, the Sam I know - would never do what he did to them. Got that? Never. And in a few days the Sam that did is gonna be gone, and my brother is gonna have to deal with the aftermath. On top of the shit he'll be left with, he shouldn't have to pay for somethin' this goddamn castle made him do.

Have you ever been tortured, Dean? And if you have, does that feeling of being violated like that ever go away just because the body's healed and there's some kind of convenient excuse?

Even those who are guilty for insane reasons receive some kind of punishment for the things they've done! If people just -- tolerate it because it was a loss or something of the like, only allows for people who really are dangerous and really do harm people with room to get away with more.

I may not have been here long, but I understand a few things about the way something can change a person. A loss may be a loss but the castle didn't force his hand. It wasn't mind control. Your brother made a choice, and he needs to answer for that choice. Whether you agree with it or not.

No. It doesn't. And people who torture innocents don't deserve forgiveness, not one ounce. But I hope one day, when the time comes that you lose a part of yourself and hurt the people you care about, that they take you aside and punish you for something you didn't have any kind of control over. And I hope it hurts.

I should speak with her myself. We've never really -- gotten along, but she is from our world, and I suppose that makes us -- family on some strange level.

I'm aware. She was working with your grandfather as well, but just because Arthur had some bad judgment in the past doesn't make him any less your blood.

Not that I'm aware of.

I'm not saying that this absolves him of whatever he's done back home, or even has yet to do, for that matter. But -- here, the rules are different. Not gone completely, but different.

If he'd had, I'd want an adequate punishment to be rendered. The same should go for Sam.

He was under the castle's influence. Whatever choices made weren't made by Sam.

People who kill people when they're under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or who are coerced still receive jail time. What is the difference here?

This castle is stronger than drugs or alcohol. It can bring the dead back to life, and drag in people from other worlds. It's magic.

Plus, drugs and alcohol are usually voluntary.

I understand what you're saying. The castle may have forced him to change, Claire, but what he did after that change was his choice. He did make them, and he needs to be held accountable.

The castle warped him too much. It wasn't his choice. That's the thing.

I suppose we shall have to see what Sam says, won't we?
