2nd Thorn

[Briar noted that Merlin didn't know who was in charge of  the gardens and went down to check on them. They appeared to be fine, a few of them reaching out to touch him and soak in some of his magic. He starts walking around the gardens, touching and checking every plant. Feel free to run into him out there.]

They all feel well. Who is taking care of them? Whoever has is doing a good job.

[A cheerful feminine voice greets him from behind.]

They seem to take care of themselves for the most part, but a little encouragement here and there helps.

[She wraps a curl around her finger, then kneels to inspect a large leaf.] Nope! And the weather is perfect for most of them. I think some of these are actually used to hotter weather, but they seem just fine alongside the temperate ones.

That's what I was thinking.

[She glances over her shoulder and notices the tattoos. He's definitely got her attention now.]

... Can I see your hands?

[identity profile] shiningprayer.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
They're beautiful... [She traces the moving patterns lightly as she smiles to herself.] No wonder the plants like you. What's your name?

[identity profile] shiningprayer.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Really? They're blind, then. [She lets him go.] I'm Aerith. It's nice to meet you, Briar.

I haven't seen you around before. Are you new?

I've only been here a couple of weeks myself. It's not too bad though, so far. [She smiles into the breeze and tucks a bit of hair behind her ear.] Even with the random water park appearing.

It's like a playground in the water, I guess. I've never actually seen a water park before - my world was sort of run-down.

I've been debating whether or not to try it...

[She clasps her hands behind her back.]

Ah, that's right! Though, anyone can use magic on my world if they have the right equipment.

Materia. They're like little round pieces of the Planet's life force.

I'd be surprised if you did!

[this one written to him over the journal]

There are many residents here who have skills with plants, to help them grow. I myself spent many an evening walking through the gardens, but I have one of my own now, a little further off.

Yes, although it has been a few nights since last I walked among them. It is good to know there is another here now.

[Amanda is puttering around the roses--she's only just gotten out into the gardens to get a good look at them as a gardener would, though she's really only a hobbyist, and only with roses in particular]

[identity profile] shewhoishiswife.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[LMAO, I should probably note that Amanda is most likely in her forties :D She looks up at the newcomer and smiles]

They do look that way, I'm glad to see.

[she fingers the petals of one fondly]

I am. They've always been my favorite flower. I put a lot of effort into growing them on my husband's home planet.

[identity profile] shewhoishiswife.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially in a climate such as Vulcan's.

[her smile turns a little distant, before she sets her shoulders straight again]

Are these gardens yours? I asked, before, but no one seemed to know who maintains them.

[identity profile] shewhoishiswife.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Vulcan, yes. My husband's homeworld. [she looks at him a little more closely, and deduces that he hails from a point in time long before first contact, if he is indeed from Earth] Good! I hadn't wanted to step on anyone's toes. I'd thought to take over care of the roses myself.

[Amanda debates holding out her hand in greeting--he might consider it too forward--and settles on simply inclining her head]

My name is Amanda. Yours?

It's a pleasure to meet you, Briar. Perhaps I will see you around the gardens?
