∞ 009 not like him...
[so he was sort of excited to be seeing the Doctor again. Mostly to show off his new Torchwood hub, but also to just get a chance to talk to him. He felt like he owed him an explanation about why he had continued with Torchwood. He'd done the same for the Doctor after the regeneration, why not give the same to the one from before, the one that changed his life in the first place. However he hadn't been sure when later was supposed to be. It hadn't been too long since he'd spoken to him, but he was trying to at least get something on the books. Heading down to the Doctor's room he walked right by it first. Then realized he'd gone too far down the hallway for that to be right. Moving backwards he worked back to the door that should've been the Doctor's but it was short one name. Pulling out the journal Jack opted to ask -- just in case]
When a name's not on the door, like it's supposed to be, they're not living here anymore right? Does that include when they go on a trip outside of the castle?

[another moment to think]
Some residents say the castle moves their rooms? Is there anyway to find out if that happened here?

[contemplates for a moment and realizes that there are people here would should be able to sense if the Doctor is here or not, and figures he doesn't want to upset anyone prematurely... but it is a curious thing]
The Doctor's name is gone from this room. There's still one name plate for the eighth regeneration, just not the ninth. I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not.

...Let me know if you find him.

[Jack knows that Nine seemed to know everyone, and is now a bit more worried than he was before]

Sorry, I was still trying to sort out if it was accurate or not, but it seems the nameplate is gone for the Doctor. The eighth regeneration's name is still here, just not the ninth.

Ah, no. These things happen; it is Paradisa, after all.
You are friends with the Doctor?
no subject
[sighs] I was, yes. I traveled with him before arriving here as well.

Ah. My condolences, then.

I'm sorry.

[yeah, that's so not a logical next step for the conversation, but he's trying to avoid thinking about the fact that Nine was a friend. maybe it will hurt less if he reminds himself he doesn't have any]

He gave you a key to the TARDIS... that's hardly useless now. That's an important thing, to a Time Lord to trust someone with the TARDIS? [shakes his head disagreeing with this guys perception of useless]
That's a reminder that whatever connection you had with him is tangible, and worth something.
The man changed my life and even when I traveled with him, I never got one. Keep that. Don't let him not being here, translate to he was never here.
