[Stalled behind with his expedition buddy, looking around uneasily at all of the buffalo] Uh...Hey, Lloyd? You noticed they don't have eyes, right?

[He doesn't seem all that bothered! Or he might not be paying attention] ... It's kind of hard not to. But it was bound to be kind of weird out here, don't worry about it.

...Don't worry about it? They don't have eyes! It's unnatural! What's wrong with them?

What're you asking me for? Lots of things don't have eyes, maybe it's just the way they are.

[He's turning his head to stare at you instead now] What do you mean lots of things don't have eyes?! Inanimate objects totally don't count! ...Do you think it's because they're out here?

Plants don't have eyes! [He has no idea if those count as inanimate or not] Besides, what would being out here have to do with it?

[You know, neither does he] Yeah, well they don't exactly walk around though, do they? I don't know, but the bears by the castle have eyes, and so do the ducks. And all the cats and dogs. 'Sides, there's all this weird flaky stuff in the grass.

[Pause] ... You think the dirt's doing it to them?

I don't know...It doesn't even really look like dirt, does it? And it feels...weird out here.

Huh. [Give him a second! Those gears are a-turnin'] ... What if we take one back with us?

[A pause] And do what with it? Try to give it eyes?

Well, if they don't have eyes because they're out here, wouldn't they get eyes if we take them somewhere else?

...That...Makes a lot of sense. But if it's too big we might attract attention...So it's got to be a baby one, which would be hard to get to..

We'd just need a distraction or something. I'd feel kinda bad taking a baby, but...

Ah, but it'd be easiest...And probably has the best chance at growing eyes, but if we're going to...We should do it before we leave here.

Lloyd, the only animals without eyes in our world are either cave-dwellers who don't need the light to function, or monsters that compensate for their lack of eyes in some other way. These creatures lack the mana signature of a monster but do live in a place with light. Perhaps it is a lack of predators that renders vision unnecessary.
