Few Christmases back, Jack brought in this severed hand, put it in a jar. Wouldn't let me analyse it, kept it hanging around near the door for ages, even let a hostile alien get away when the thing was smashed. We all wondered what the hell the thing meant to him, 'specially after that. Then Jack disappeared for a few months, and bingo -- so did the hand. Never saw the thing again, and this'd been after he'd 'found his Doctor'.

Methinks things are beginning to make a bit more sense now, at least.
