18, dictated;

I'm in the library. It's quiet in here, and I like it. The chairs are so soft.

I wandered in here because as much as I like being outside, I get bored and hungry. Sometimes even I need a little downtime. Those fights I had were fun and all, but I just need some time for myself.

[Pause, then the sound of flipping through pages of a book, then in a sarcastic tone;] These are real interesting. Are they even worth your time? Why would people stay in here and read rather than go outside and do actual stuff?

Sometimes I wonder if I'd be any different if I could see. Obviously, I would be, but I mean... Books. Fireworks. Faces. This castle. They're just words to me. I don't know what they look like, but do I want to know? Are they that special?

[A long pause as she takes in what she just said, then a scoff] Wow. What brought that on? Eh, whatever. I'll just keep stacking these books up 'til they reach the ceiling.

Books are boring, people are ugly, the castle is a shithole. Fireworks are kinda cool, though. Anythin' else you want to know about?

Sight is overrated when you have the skill to function properly without it.

... Was I acting weird over the week? NOT THE-- that. I mean, other than that.

Are you that bored?

....Hmm. What do you dream about?

What little I remember of reading... It was a big deal to me when I finally learned. It's something... certain people aren't taught to do back home.

And well, It'd say the point of fireworks would be the colors, but that's a little hard to describe.

Books-- literature-- offer insight into things that are difficult to explain or witness. I lost my ability to read upon entering this castle, but it has not dampered my appreciation for Shakespeare and other geniuses.

People read books for many different reasons: for entertainment, or for knowledge... Theatre provides an entertaining and yet enlightening glimpse into character, as well as a chance to be something greater than oneself-- and that is why I read.

The library's nice, even if you aren't checking out books there.

I guess a lot of people would read books for the same reason someone would listen to a story being told or something being explained. It's just through a different medium.

{ a pause }

I don't think you're missing much. Fireworks are just a bunch of colors, the castle is just a bunch of stones, and I've always thought voices were more interesting than faces anyway.

I agree, books aren't very fun. Unless they have some information I need, they're useless.

Does it bother you when people say you aren't missing out on much?

Reading books is like talking with the people who wrote them, even if they're dead or too far away. It's no substitute for real people, but everyone needs a break from real people every now and then.

I wouldn't call features any more special than voices.

[thoughtfully] Is there any form of braille in your world?

What about braille? Only if you're interested in reading books, of course.

Spending time outside is nice.

Maybe you'd still be the same anyway, right? I mean, you think like yourself.
