Seventh Strike

I didn't say this before because I'm a retard, but I wanted to thank you three! You guys seriously helped me out during the Menos attack. I just kinda suck at thanking people but.. yeah. Thank you three so much.

Hmm. [Pen taps.]

Seems like a couple of people are talking about government and police forces and stuff. Considering everything that's happened lately, I can't say I'm surprised. There's been enough destruction and bad things...

and we all kinda like to have a government, right? People may break 'em, but laws give everyone a guideline. A set of rights and wrongs that mean we don't have to judge for ourselves what's good or bad.

hmf...

Can't say I like the idea of a government here. In fact, I think it's a bad idea.

[A pause. The journal faintly records her saying "NO, Chizuru, I will NOT fluff your pillow! How d'you expect me to do that with ONE HAND, ANYWAY? shut up before I throw you out the window. ... YES, WITH ONE HAND."]

.. anyway.

I think it's a bad idea for a couple reasons. One is that I think it'd chafe in a place like this. People are gonna end up rebelling just for the sake of rebelling. And people will try to usurp it just for the sake of usurping it or just their own hunger for power.

Also, despite all the bad things that happened recently, normal life in the castle is pretty smooth. doesn't seem to me like it's all too often that "disciplinary action" is even necessary. Besides, who's to say what punishment's fair? Some people here come from really harsh worlds where I'm sure you could get killed just for saying something. It's just too different.

And there is NO WAY a king or something would work. One person? In charge of all this? Sure it works when you've got a country or nation or something where everyone comes from the same place, the same history, with all the same traditions and culture and stuff.... but EVERY SINGLE PERSON HERE comes from a different world, with totally different ideas of justice and right and wrong! No way can one person match up to all that.

So yeah. Sorry for rambling, but government's just a bad idea for this place, plain and simple.

Not saying there shouldn't be ANYTHING.. some sort of organization would be good, right? Like I said, laws are guidelines. I've got a few ideas myself, but I'm not gonna go parading them around, cuz I don't think I'm right exactly. It'd be arrogant to think I was.

So what I'm sort of saying is.. I dunno. I think whoever's interested in organization of some sort - rules or laws - well, I wanted to get a sort of meeting together of anyone who wants to discuss the issue. Not official or anything, no appointing or regulating or any of that stuff. Just a discussion to pool ideas! The more input the better, I think, because each person will have something to add that the others won't have thought of.

Anyone else want to try this? I was thinking we could meet in the library if anyone actually wanted to.

So.. yeah. That's it.

((OOC: sorry this is so long x_x))

I agree. Government here is a bad idea.

[identity profile] seeyoucowboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
The funny thing is that everyone keeps saying government when none of them mentioned that.

There's no order here, so hell, I say they should give it a shot. Believe me, I come from a place that had none of that, and people begin making their own laws sooner or later.

They are an organization, kid. Try giving them some ideas instead of starting an opposing force.

[identity profile] anewlingo.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
When people were attacked... something could have been done, you know? But there was no organization, so... lives were lost.

We're not going to rule everyone, or even make rules! We're not trying to control the castle--we're just trying to make it safer.

If someone goes missing, we can look for them. If someone is hurt somewhere, we can heal them. And if someone murders people, we can all work together to stop that.

[identity profile] anewlingo.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... eek, I'm sorry, Tatsuki! I'm just a little worried since a few people seem like they really don't want us to do this...

[identity profile] percipience.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think she knows that you're not trying to create a ruling force, guys.
She's just pondering the consequences of what could happen if a government body popped into existance.

I couldn't agree with you more on most counts, Tatsuki. Though there's nothing arrogant about expressing your ideas in your journal. I'm actually kind of curious to hear about them, myself.

[identity profile] percipience.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I understand. Maybe we can talk about it later. People do tend to be feeling particularly touchy about this subject.

[identity profile] ontheclockpro.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
So.

Let me get this straight. You would rather have complete anarchy here instead of any sort of system for keeping order? And this is all on the basis of, things have been fine so far? I mean sure, we've only had what? Five people murdered? An entire castle destroyed?

Yeah, things have been working out great.

And I'm sure everyone here will out of the goodness of their hearts know exactly what is right and what is wrong. And they will follow that moral code not because they will get in trouble (because they won't), but because they don't want to have a guilty conscious later. And nothing will ever happen again, I'm sure.

You have to be one of the most naive people I've met in a long time yo.

[identity profile] percipience.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[transcribed cough] "Not saying there shouldn't be ANYTHING.. some sort of organization would be good, right? Like I said, laws are guidelines. I've got a few ideas myself, but I'm not gonna go parading them around, cuz I don't think I'm right exactly. It'd be arrogant to think I was."

Also: I tend to agree with her. Think about it: This is a relatively small community by comparison, correct? yet almost every person here is from a completely different world with different governing methods. Not to mention the people here that may have power-hungry tendencies. Would you really want someone who could...I don't know...say...kill you by looking at you...or swallow your soul or something becoming a dictator? Government = corruption, there's no way around it. Powerful people from different backgrounds with crazy abilities vying for the positions of power= pandemonium.

You're right as well, though. With a system of ...I don't know...we'll use the term 'guards' for now some of those murders could have been avoided....not all of them though. Not by any means.
However, by what stretch of the imagination does it make any sense that having a 'guard' posted would have prevented the menos from destroying the castle? Most people couldn't even SEE the damn thing.
And there were five murders in how long? There are places where that many murders happen every few hours. Not only that but the threat WAS taken care of with relative swiftness. I think we're doing pretty well, comparitively. Not to make light of those peoples' deaths. It is a very sad thing.

....I kind of went off playing Devil's advocate there because I do support the initiation of a guard. There needs to be SOMETHING...we just need to be careful that they don't overstep certain boundaries that must be set to prevent a power struggle in the future. If the castle would even let anything more organized than what's been proposed occur. I have the distinct feeling that it would...reject that idea.

[private to Reno]
Whoa, easy killer. She's only 15 a little naivete is allowed I think.

[/end private]

[private to Tatsuki]

SO sorry for hijacking your journal. I didn't like how he said that to you...not to mention he was insulting my opinion as well. Please forgive!

[/end private]

[identity profile] ontheclockpro.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Okay yeah, governments can always get corrupted. Thats a fact because we're all human-well most of us are human here. But see, why would we let a guy like that in power in the first place? Also, I think we have bigger issues worrying about all the people with freaky abilities like that running around here un-check than just ONE of them getting into power.

And yeah sure, there are places that murders happen every few hours. But keep in mind as you said earlier about this being a relatively small community. The places where the murders happen every few hours tend to be large communities, so the ratio of murders are about the same. And they were taken care of by mob mentality (not something worth trusting). The mob that also wanted the murderer dead and one of them as I recall, had to protect him from them until he died from his wounds anyway. So no, I don't think thats doing well.

Eh don't worry about playing Devil's advocate. I've played it many times yo. But yeah, you got a point there.

[Private to Lana]
Hey its not like I can tell her age through these things. I see something I disagree with and I say so, sorry.

[identity profile] percipience.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
No one ever CHOOSES a dictator, Reno. They just kind of shimmy in when no one is looking. Most of the time they're very well-intentioned and dont even realize they're causing.....
a lot of pain. I could come up with an example for you from my world but it's...a very long story.

[private to Reno]

yeah I understand and I respect your directness but just for future reference. She is a young girl.

[identity profile] ontheclockpro.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hold up a sec. So you are against anarchy, but you don't want a formal government?

You do KNOW that anarchy is a state of society that lacks a formal government, right? Also a constitution is something that sets up the grounds for a formal government. You might want to look up those vocabulary words in your school books next time you decide to give us a why government is bad lecture.

Tch, whatever.

[identity profile] deathlypink.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Uuuun. You talk too much Tatu!

Summarize please? ♥

[Private to Tatsuki]

[identity profile] valourous.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I respect your opinion well enough, but laws are generally part of government.

[Private to Tatsuki]

[identity profile] valourous.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
But who'd have the right to create the laws? Who'd have the unbiased allowance for such a thing? That is, idealy, why governments are made. They're seen as that sort of base, to prevent the people making every law that they wish to have their way.

But, I do see the point you are trying to make.

I highly doubt that even after discussion you'll be even able to put forward such a thing. But, if it interests you, whatever.

[identity profile] deathlypink.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
...Why didn't you just say that, silly?

[identity profile] deathlypink.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'll ever understand you silly ryoka. Nyaa~

Please -- it wasn't a problem at all! We're just glad that you're safe now. How is your arm feeling, by the way?

[identity profile] right-lane.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Are you familiar with Hobbes' theory on the Natural State of Man? Or of any countless other philosophers, out of curiosity?

[identity profile] right-lane.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Curiosity, as I said. You might learn something interesting if you stopped by the library and picked up a novel on the subject; and age isn't limiting. Philosophy is never required, and I'd rather ask than assume otherwise.

[identity profile] right-lane.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hobbes is a starting point, thus the suggestion. He was a philosopher, one of many who took time debating out various theories on the nature of humanity and human nature. Merely a suggestion to begin by viewing his works, and spending time thinking on them - particularly his thoughts on the Natural State of humans.

[identity profile] secluded-ninja.livejournal.com 2007-03-10 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
I think government is a bad idea as well. However, I think that this place does need a group of people to intervene when a fight breaks out or when someone is attempting to create chaos in this place. The power of what these people can do should be decided people of this castle. Power can corrupt, so one person should not have the power to control what goes on here. But my views are not always the same as everyone elses.

Tatsuki

I'm just glad you're getting better.

Don't worry about it! You're welcome.
