[horses whinnying, and then annoyed demands for them to stop interrupting]

If this place was not odd enough as it is, a trip to the grounds introduced me to these awkward creatures in the stables. I generally do not associate with animals (other than riding animals), but these ones proved to be far too unusual to ignore. They are very ugly, and very ill-bred. They look as if their legs could never support their bodies properly.

Their bodies are rather like that of a dragon-moose's, four legged and bulky, though these ones seem far too delicate, and they have funny heads. They lack a mane, antlers, and there isn't a single spine or barbel.

What is this sad, pathetic excuse for a living creature, and why are they here?

Amusement how? Certainly no one would ride a creature as weak as this.

It's called a horse. In my world it's a popular riding animal, although now most ride them for recreation rather than out of necessity.

In my world, there are ostrich-horses, but they are quite different. They walk on two legs, and they're much more like birds than these "horses". Those are ridden by commoners, Earth kingdom peasants.

Perhaps I shall, though it certainly doesn't look like it has the speed or agility of a mongoose-dragon, which is one of the beasts we ride in the Fire nation. They're quite useful in combat, capable of crossing water and scaling large obstacles without restricting the aim or movement of the rider. I should think that these "horses" would have their heads in the way, and would die quite quickly.

Tanks, factories, trebuchets, great warships. The Fire nation's military is very much concentrated on its navy, so most of the machinery is focused there.

Naturally. The Fire nation has had to rely on technology more than the other nations, as fire cannot be used the same way the other elements can, but it's made us stronger in the end. We surpassed them the instant we discovered how to harness the power of passing comets, and the sun.

Horses are not pathetic creatures, they were the most common means of transportation for some and always used for cavalry units in warfare.

Don't aggitate one. Getting kicked by a horse would leave quite a mark.

Cavalry units in my country employ much more durable creatures for warfare. A kimodo-rhinoceros could crush this pathetic horse and unseat its rider in mere seconds with its superior body and horns.

I think they kinda look like a Antelope-bison? But not quite. Dragon-moose is a bit more on. I think I remember learning about a similar creature that's now extinct or something.

Anyways, are they at least fast? We do need rides if we're to venture out past this Castle.
