ten days

[recorded unknowingly; tinkering noises, then a pause]

Adam?

HELLO SAMUS--ARE YOU IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE

Adam, when was the last time it rained on this planet?

PLANETARY DATA INCOMPLETE--FINDINGS INCONCLUSIVE-- REQUEST AT A LATER DATE

....
[quiet sigh]

QUERY DETECTED--

No, Adam. No query presently.

[shuffling as Samus moves to where the journal is placed, the rest is written]

There have been no changes in the weather pattern - is this commonplace on this planet?

Yes. As unusual as that may be.

[all comments are dictated, because he always does it that way even though I forget to announce it]

[identity profile] half-jaw.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I have contemplated on that fact myself several times. It is most unusual. And annoying.

[a small scribbled intricate symbol with a translation written sloppily out to the side: "nature abhors paradox"]

That is an inaccurate translation, but it is the best I can manage with the human tongue.

[identity profile] half-jaw.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is.

[another intricate symbol is drawn on the page--this one is more detailed and is less a scribble than a piece of artwork--he obviously took his time drawing it, as if perhaps in pride and dignity]

There is no translation in the human tongue, nor have the humans discovered the area and given it their own name either, but that is the answer to your question.

[another, much smaller yet still intricate, symbol; written to the side: "correct/very good"]

The Sangheili believe other languages to be very crude, especially the various human tongues. This idea, however, is probably true for most species.

[a small pause] ...Are you a demon Spartan?

[identity profile] half-jaw.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
[another, similar symbol--to the side: "correct/good, but try again"]

Sangheili is my own people's word for our race. The humans call us "Elites." While descriptively accurate, it lacks--what is the word?--elegance.

Spartans. The Sangheili translate this word into "demon" in our own language. They are a particularly hardy group of human-like warriors with fair greater abilities than normal humans. They also wear a set of armor similar to Sangheili in its technology--and your own suit in appearance.

[the "correct/very good" symbol is drawn again then below it another that is indicated as "thank you"]

May I ask the name of this race?

It rained a little over a month ago.

But that was a bit of an anomaly, we're afraid~

The same way the castle repairs itself within days no matter the damage, or the same way the forest regrows overnight after being burned to the ground, we suppose.

When they do, they're crazy. But it's only happened once. That I remember.

[identity profile] loluronfire.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the castle does that.

[identity profile] loluronfire.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
You were seriously gonna come back to fix it?

[identity profile] loluronfire.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if someone kicks your door off its hinges in the first place, you don't generally expect them to stop by to tack it back on, no matter what they say.
