[Guess who's back from an expedition and prepared to be bossy? This chick.]

Hard Harry suggested the establishment of an emergency plan for the castle. It's not a bad idea.

For those of you who I haven't met, I'm Agent Carolina and--- [Pause. Re-wording. ] I have a plan in response to his concerns, but I don't expect placement on the team. Trust comes with time and I understand that; I was told you were the people to contact about ideas.

My idea is the establishment of floor and tower captains: either one or two who are in charge of evacuating their floor in the case of an emergency. But, it wouldn't stop there. They would also keep a headcount of who is and isn't on their floor even when things aren't going wrong. Leaving it up to one or two people for the whole castle leaves us wide open for something similar to what just happened. They would report to someone on your team who has the most experience with preparing for and responding to emergencies.

The captains wouldn't need to be military, just someone who knows the rendezvous point and the residents on their floor and can keep a level head in a time of emergency.

Now that I'm thinking about it, is there a rendezvous point if there's an emergency?

I'd like to talk to you, if you want to. I won't make you.

I don't know how many of you remember the summer when the outposts were built, but for those of you who weren't here, I'll explain.

The outposts were started so that we'd have a place close to the border for both travel and observation. The project was spearheaded by Asano Rin, a young woman who still leads a lot of excursions out into the Dead Zone, and Tony Stark, a tech genius who is no longer in Paradisa. Four of the five outposts were built on the powered side, so actually putting them up didn't take very long. Cassie, Kon and I put together the better part of two of them in just under a month, and a bunch of us put up the West Outpost in a matter of days when there was a crisis in Eldritch and we needed a place closer to the border to work from. These things were built to last; outposts that could double as bunkers, if necessary, but otherwise served as shelter and food and supply resources for anyone traveling out towards the border.

On Sunday night, the four outposts inside the Castle's zone went up in flames when someone –– presumably the two who let Joshua Christopher loose –– set up and set off explosions inside them. Because of how these outposts were built and set-up, I want to point out that attacking the outposts served no strategic purpose whatsoever. No one lives out there full-time and no one was out there at the time. The damages are cosmetic at worst, because Tony didn't design these things to be taken out by a couple explosions, and anything we had out there can be replaced. And even if it was more serious, how much would it actually set us back? We still have the blueprints and plenty of other capable tech people, as well as a super-powered construction force. Nothing would stop us from rebuilding and getting back to status quo within a few months at absolute longest. They didn't even blow up the one outpost we have out in the Dead Zone, the one that we can't just rebuild at the drop of a hat –– the one that was probably the most important to us.

They also got into the Peace Patrol HQ and released a prisoner, but they only released one and then set off the alarms. They didn't get into the computers, or any of the files Tony left. They could have done a lot more than that, but they didn't.

We didn't really know they were here, but suddenly a flare goes up and they take off, but not without informing us that they were here. If they'd just gotten up and snuck off, we wouldn't have known at all. They decided to make a big show of their departure.

It feels more like a message than a co-ordinated attack, and an arrogant one at that. Yes, they got in and were here for over a year, but what do they actually know about us that they couldn't glean from reading the journals? Who here was friends with Nancy or Zeke and let anything they wouldn't already know from having originally been here slip?

Just an observation.

[Durge clears his throat before speaking, still not entirely comfortable with this journal business, but it couldn't be helped.]

I am still not entirely sure what is happening around here. All this talk of explosions and spies makes me wonder if I have not stumbled onto some sort of war. Who is it that we are fighting and why?

That said, I have heard mention of this...Peace Patrol? I gather they are something like your castle guards? I would like to join. I can fight well enough, and truth be told, a knight without charge nor cause is a sad thing indeed.

[ The "gr8" Marquise Spinneret Mindfang has found herself in a castle, somewhat out of the blue, along with a mysterious journal. After a moment of inspection, she has discovered a variety of different writing styles and - no, it can't have possibly just spoken to her. She is simply shocked by her sudden relocation, that must be it. Either way, it is certainly a curious artifact. Past experience tells her to be wary, but a compulsion to chronicle her journey takes over her.

She supposes that, if nothing else, this will help her understand this journal - and perhaps this mysterious castle - better.

She finds a spot to sit as she writes, on a couch in what appears to be some sort of lobby. And then she begins. ]

I appear to have found myself in a foreign loc8tion; a castle as far as my eyes can discern. I do not remem8er how I came to 8e here, nor is it clear why I am here. Last I can recall, my ships were under siege 8y the Neophyte Legislacerator, yet neither she nor my crew are here. This is unlike any sort of prison I have had the pleasure of knowing, so I cannot imagine that I have 8een captured. Yet I cannot yet conceive of another option.

As of now, however, I am free to move around. I 8elieve that I shall take this opportunity to explore. If my luck continues to persist, and I am confident that it shall, I will hopefully find myself with a reason 8efore the day is through.

[ She nearly closes the journal here, to stand up and explore as she had written, but a curiosity keeps her tied to the open page. Normal journals, of course, do not change without somebody writing in them.

But Mindfang is not dumb enough to assume that this is anything that might qualify as "a normal journal." ]

[Today, there is a blonde ninja curled up on a couch in the lobby, trying to distract herself by reading a silly-looking women's magazine. She looks rather somber, thanks to her BFF leaving, but ... hey, what is that?

Above her head is a reddish-grey-colored diamond, and there's a small blue box floating nearby. It looks like her Hunger, Comfort, Hygiene, Energy and Bladder levels are mostly in the green, so no worries there. However, her Fun, Social, and Environment levels are looking pretty damn low/red ...

She doesn't seem to notice these weird things floating around her, though, opting to idly turn the pages of the magazine instead. ... and dictate towards the journal]

Are there places in the world -- or ... worlds, I guess, where it's socially acceptable for men to wear skirts? I'm kind of curious.

[Not too long ago, he'd finally regained consciousness. As to from what, well. He hadn't reached that conclusion yet. No, more likely he was concerned with further pressing matters, such as where he was and who/what he was dealing with. The typical situational assessment. When he'd woken up to an empty room without so much as a mark (asides from the risidual aftermath on the cruise liner run-- a few red splotches on the collar and his hands where he'd taken hold of Liu's sleeve, by what seemed only moments before), he managed to reach the conclusion that his life wasn't in any immediate danger. Warily, he'd gotten up and about to scanning the nearby areas in the castle. The architecture wasn't familiar at all, a great contrast from the initial cramped industrialized areas under Dragon Head's watch. He'd jumped to the conclusion that it was largely European, not that he'd had an eye for such things. But it was the only possible explainable alternative. Which meant that this could have ties to some people he really didn't get involved with anymore. Not that he had in the first place, which had caused the whole mess with probably pissing off his boss and leading to several more acts of unpleasantness. It couldn't be a prisoner situation, and if they were looking for compensation, they were horrible at keeping their captives in one place. This seemed like a seperate ordeal entirely.

JJ had managed to avoid running into people so far. When he heard someone come up one hallway, he'd go down another. This really wasn't helping to keep a mental map, but he had a good sense of direction initially, so he'd be able to...

Purple eyes settled on an oddly familiar black leather cover sitting right in the middle of the floor. Hadn't he passed that same journal just before? Or, it looked like something he might have seen where he'd first woken up in that empty room. Taking exaggerated care to walk around the object, he continued on his way, only to run across a similarly displayed journal a moment later. Frowning, JJ gave a cautionary glance around. Did people ususally leave these out in the open like this? He knelt down briefly to inspect it. The cover appeared to be blank. Unless someone was following him and meant for him to find it..? At that, JJ went back into a standing position, journal in hand and giving a cautious glance over his shoulder. Once he figured he was alone, he stood off to the side and opened the journal. A plethora of different writing styles littered the pages that the journal fell open to. In no way did any of the writing seem relevant to what might be going on partaining to him, whatsoever. It seemed more like menial chatting. Had the journal been passed around..? The man's muttered tone held a hint of confusion as he thought out loud.
] ... Just what was the point of..? [His expression fell blank as the unfinished sentence filled itself out on the page, an audible sound of mixed discomfort and realization following. This was  a joke, right? He tilted the journal in hand, flipping through pages and inspecting it for some sort of rediculous recording device that would allow for such an anomaly. Hopefully the recording wasn't being transmitted elsewhere..?]

...Before I had the misfortune of...Expiring this past August, I had those who wished to aide in the construction of far more useful strong holds in the event of the emergency come forward, so that we might begin such a thing.

I'm not in the interest of repeating myself, but I cannot be certain who has or has not left the castle of the volunteers, or if any new residents would like to step forward. [so he marks down the page number for them to be caught up to speed]

If anything, this is a matter I feel has only grown in importance, and should hold our immediate attention, and construction should start before the snow falls.

I just realized that I don't know about a lot of the holidays that we have here. It sounds like there's a lot, but I don't really remember ever celebrating them before. This next one's about being thankful for friends and other things, right? And then the last one was about dressing up and eating candy...what's the next one like?

[She was also going to send a gift to Aradia but she's a robot right now, it can wait until she can appreciate it.

Instead, she's wandered into the kitchen, covered in bandages and quite loopy off of the painkillers she was given post-trip. That lump on her head thanks her for it. Her journal is beside her as she puts her hat in the microwave, dictating, voice a bit more relaxed and slow than usual.
]

My hat's not warm enough. I think the 'defrost' setting should work for it.

I kind of miss Ruu, too. He was like a brother to me, if a sibling could be small and pink. I studied monkey-fu because of him. Great guy, great guy. Everyone should get a simian companion like him. I recommend it. Which reminds me...

[She'll go over to the fridge and open it, crouched down and staring into it like it was filled with wonder and merriment.]

Alleria, I know you're in the fridge. You should come out, it's too cold this time of year to play hide and seek in there! Did Sylvanas and Vereesa put you in the deli drawer? That's so rude of them! Rude sisters! They should appreciate you and your superior beauty.

Besides, everyone knows you should keep elves in the vegetable crisper.

[And cue Paradisa's microwave dying a billionth time due to hatsplosion. Guess you can't really microwave a tomato, even if it's just a hat that looks like one.]

Well. Oops. Sorry about that. Cleanup in the kitchen, stat!

Um. Has anyone seen a lizard anywhere? I've lost mine. He's green, long, and kinda gross? He responds to the name Scales or Wybie. Kind of. [No, not really, but it'll be hilarious to see people walking around calling for a lizard]

I'm back from the expedition to Libet. I'm not quite sure where to begin, I mean it was all so incredible, yet dangerous! Kind of like those Indiana Jones movies. Where there are tombs with traps and dangers around every corner!

It was also very enlightening. Those vampire birds? Turns out they don't decompose. I've got one on hand actually. I was hoping to dissect it at the lab.

[Only Daisy would stop to pick up to pick up a vampiric bird corpse. Only her. Ever.]

It was amazing! I kept some fairly detailed notes along the way.

I totally knew Pinkie wasn't the traitor. She doesn't have it in her.

I know it's real bad, that the outposts got destroyed, but can't we rebuild them? I mean, you guys did it before right? I'm sure a lot of hard work and effort and we can get them back in no time. Show those bullies they can't push us around, right?

That's what we'd do in Ponyville anyway.

All things considered, I think it's time for a meeting, don't you all? I'll give those of us who were wounded in the expedition a few more days to rest and recover, but -- Friday seems a fair enough day.

Yes. Friday, at two. In the basement, if you would, please. It seems there are quite a few things to discuss.

[now that that's done with... he clears his throat] I don't suppose anyone's seen Yuan lately, have they? In one form or another? It isn't like him to miss an expedition, or keep quiet about things like this ... I found his journal in my library when we returned, but ... other than that, there's neither hide nor hair of him. .... Ah well, at least the journal's a sign he's still here ... somewhere ...

[little does he know that, uh, well - Yuan's lost in his TARDIS ... oops.]

((OOC: Meeting called and Yuan's whereabouts explained by request of Miss Sylvia, who's still mostly net-less. I will, indeed, be putting up a Patrol meeting post on Friday afternoon during my lunch break if all goes according to plan. If not ... it'll be more like Friday night. Contact info's here for anyone with questions or suggestions!))

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
