[ Waiting for an answer, he picks up a nearby pen and twirls it in his hand before bringing it to the journal. Preferring to be anonymous, he begins writing. This he doesn't filter whatsoever. He's curious. ]

Have you ever wanted to do something that you knew wasn't the right or good thing to do?

So, this is so not the first time I've woken up someplace and not known how I've gotten there (hell, it's not even the third or fourth time that's happen, let's be honest) but usually by now, I've been able to figure out where here is at least.

But this place? Not so much. Big fancy castle and all, but the outsides aren't any place I recognize and let me tell you, I've been around just about everywhere so that's definitely kind of weird.

Good thing I noticed this weird magic journal, right? So this place is called Paradisa, which is kind of weird, considering you know, I didn't really expect to end up in Paradise when everything was said and done. Never was the religious type, you know? But what else do I need to know about things here? I guess I could keep reading, but it seems like it'd be way easier to just let people lay it out on the table.

And finally, and most importantly, what's there to do that's fun here? If I'm stuck in this place, might as well make the most of it right? Right.

[ Rory is spending today actually writing in her journal. She's momentarily forgotten everyone can read what she writes. ]

Even in Yale, I hadn't lived this close to a library, much less with a library in the building I was living in. I'm burning through books, reading constantly...and I never thought I'd say this but I think I need to take a reading break.

I bet Logan's had a huge library - not that I ever went back there to find out, or that I wanted to go back there. When the grandfather all but shoos you out, the desire to return for A Mid-day at the Museum without Ben Stiller goes out the window, or out the front door...along with you and your cute blue dress.

I miss my cute blue dress. I wish I had it here with me.

[ And on her bed, appears her cute blue dress from the night she went to her boyfriend's parents. ]

Oh. I never thought living in a castle with no way out of here could be so convenient.

I miss my Mom, though. And Luke. I hope they're happy. And I hope Sookie and Jackson are doing well with their brood. And my grandparents. We had gotten back on good terms.

[ Now, she writes -- with the real intention of filtering to everyone until she realizes... ]

And...everyone can read this, can't they?

In that case, I'm not really the do-nothing girl, I'm more the do-that girl and by do-that, I mean things. I keep busy. I really keep busy. So, I guess I should get a job? Or, I can tutor. Or, are there schools here?

[ She stops writing and looks over at her dress and then back. ]

Also, is there anywhere I could wear a cute blue dress out to tonight?

Oh! Also...does anybody else think the coffee here tastes -- like everything else besides coffee? What's that about? A girl can only hold out so long without having a real good cup of coffee.

[ Gabriel ]

Hey -- Gabriel? We met the first day I got here? [ And you really kept up with her banter. You kind of reminded her of friends and ... a little bit of her mom -- on an irritable day, one of those days she was on her last pair of underwear and she found out Rory had done a load of laundry without her... ] Would you want to meet me for a drink or, or, maybe dinner? Or, just a walk. [ Oh, god, she sounded like she was asking him out, didn't she. ] As friends? [ Was that an awkward addition? ]

[ Mohinder ]

I discovered Castlenet finally.

[ John Marston ]

Still gentlemanly?

[For a moment, there is silence on the other end of the journal, as if the man at the other end is trying to figure out what to say.]

You know, I think this place is probably the cruelest place I've ever been in.

[A pause.]

Helen Magnus has gone home. Again.

This is Azure Kite speaking. For some time now I have been looking into Legato since he is the one we do not know a lot about. I will detail what I know here. I apologize if any of this is simply a repeat of anything you have heard and if any of this information is incorrect, please do not hesiate to contact me.

[a pause, then-]

Legato is a powerful telepath that is capable of controlling others and reading minds. This ability is extremely fast. However it seems there are some people he cannot control. Please speak to the Eleventh Doctor about this. There is also the possibility that Legato may not be able to control non-organic entities like myself but this has not been cofirmed yet. He is also capable of sensing others.

If you have not seen him in person, here is a physical descripion. He is very tall with blue hair and wears a white coat with spikes...ah... was decribed as 'very dramatic' to me. Black shirt and black pants as well. That is all I know.

Again, if there is any missing or incorrect information please contact me and I will correct it. Thank you.

[written in a little while later.]

It seems that Legato's ability to control others is focused on the peripheral nervous system. A team of powerful telepaths may be needed to combat him.

[If you happen to look up above in the skies today, Paradisians, you might see ... probably one of the stranger things in your life. Not only is there a gray guy with a bright red mohawk flying around with giant butterfly wings, but he also has giant horns the size of a goalpost. How does that guy not just fall right out of the sky??! I guess we will never know.

Either way, he's just flying around, maybe doing a few loop-de-loops in the sky as he goes. Care to bother him?]

[ the following is written rather than dictated like normal, though joshua's handwriting is unmistakable to those who know him. there are occasionally blotches where his pen has been resting for too long, but otherwise nothing strange about it if you exclude the subject matter; ]

I heard about what happened. I'm sorry I wasn't at the funeral, but I knew I didn't belong there. For awhile now I've realized I don't belong at the castle at all. And not in the way most of you would think... I know you all think that.

I don't mean I belong at home. There's nothing for me at home. I'll simply go back to being a [ there is almost a minute's pause after this before the writing continues ] monster.

I've left, and I didn't say goodbye because I knew it would be too difficult. I'm writing to let you know I've gone into the Dead Zone. Only a couple of you know I've been considering this, but I didn't want to make it public until I was sure of what I wanted.

Out here I feel more free. I know I'm not a danger to anybody, and I'm not sick. Even better, I get to explore, which is something I've always wanted. But don't think I'm going to become like the others.

[ another long pause, the ink blot growing until he moves the pen once more ]

I'm not going to lose track of any of you, or forget about you. I'm going to see if I can find something useful for everyone out here. Maybe I can locate a power source that you can use out here. Maybe I can discover something that the larger expeditions haven't uncovered yet.

Either way, please understand this wasn't a rash decision, and respect it. I'll miss you all, but this is for the better.

[The castle took away his ability to draw. Fine -- fine. It hindered him a little creatively, maybe, but he'd find a way to manage; he almost always did. With nothing but free times on his hands, however, being free and creative got a little tedious. Boring, even.

But girls liked guys who could cook, right? Right.

Which is maybe why Hiccup had ended up in the kitchen that Monday night, balancing a little unsteadily on a new prosthetic leg. A thick coating of flour blankets part of the floor and the countertop, covering him nearly head-to-to.

[Dib is in a sad mood. He's just had his entire alien-fighting life thrown into question by the Tallests revealing that they don't actually care about taking over Earth and it's just... really messing with him. That compared with the constant failure and general apathy even here where people believe in the paranormal is basically making him wonder whether he's even pursuing the right career.

Eventually he sighs and picks up the journal.]

Are there any real scientists around here that might want to teach me stuff? It's time to... [Oh god, he hates saying this, but if he was wrong, then his dad must be right.] ...leave paranormal investigation behind. And grow up.

[pretend it's 10 PM on the dot, and the mun didn't get distracted by the 4th Wall Meme, as Rilo Kiley's voice pipes up over the journals this week, instead of Leonard Cohen ...]

O-kaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, kids! Sorry I'm late, I was [making up with my girlfriend after pissing her off supremely] ambushed by a bunch of First Gens who couldn't remember what sex, drugs, or rock n' roll were, and had to give them a nice, solid lesson. You would not BELIEVE what's under some of that armor, loyal listeners. [he whistles] They kept me for a good solid week, so ... let's see what I missed out on!

I didn't get a chance to welcome our grand total of threeeeee new people: James Watson, Alaric Saltzman, and Lexi Branson, first of all. Hi guys, how's tricks?

In the classified section, someone's looking for a job, this guy's looking for info about living in town, there's a missing cat to keep an eye out for, CastleNet got hacked again.

[he flips some more pages, then turns off the stereo]

In more important news ... in case you missed it, there was a funeral for Arthur. I didn't know him, but ... I still went. You guys should know how I feel about this sort of thing, by now. And if you don't - we'll just say I take it pretty seriously, and leave it at that. I'm ... surprisingly not in the mood for getting people's hair up, tonight.

[he scribbles up a quick filter: Away From Riful, Her Allies, Etc]

There's too much serious stuff goin' down. I'm sure you've all heard about Felix's observations in the forest. If you haven't answered Ino's call-to-arms yet, what're you waiting for? Go do it! Tell her what you can do, even if it's helping stock the clinic or the outposts, or keeping watch somewhere. Yours truly's got his eye on the journals - so even I'm doing my part. C'mon. We're a community, whether we like it or not. Let's start acting like one. I know we can do it - I've seen it before. Prove to me - to yourselves - that it's possible.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
