Out of armor, free from grease and oil (mostly), Kat arrives a few minutes late. A bit abnormal for her, but recently she'd been out of sorts, dwelling more and more on her team and the fact that she wasn't quite sure what to do without them. Building the Falcon helped, a strenuous task that kept her mind and her hands busy, but it wasn't enough.

Hopefully meeting with someone who was more familiar with the Lone Wolf tactics would help. At the very least, she was still fascinated by the similarities and differences in her and Wolverine's programs and augmentations, and any chance to pick his brain more about it, she'd take.

She walks in, ducking a little to miss the doorway, and glances around.

"It's always that bad," he said flatly - not as he were whining about it, but simply stating a fact. "But some of what they have to say is even worse."

Laura's life story. Weapon X. The Sentinels.

Jean killing Xavier.

Logan killing...

He wrenched his thoughts off from that as quickly as he could. "Figure there's no point believin' their future has to be ours."

"Didn't say it was for nothing," he corrected. After all, he wouldn't take back the good he'd done for anybody, even for all the shit he'd had to wade through in his life. It wasn't like he wished himself dead, or anything. "Just that it can always get worse."

hahahah poor Kat ;;

Wolverine took a few more sips of his drink, staring straight ahead at the back counter behind the bar, eyes not really focused on anything. He could think back over even the sliver of his life he actually remembered and come up with a million scenarios to vouch for the fact that even after things got better, they'd dive down again in new ways to make you feel numb to it all.

"Thinking it's ever gonna be over's a good way to wind up unprepared the next time somethin' goes down," he said, the cynicism in his tone almost tangible. "You just gotta keep goin'. Keep fightin'. Beats the alternative."

"I'll tell you when I figure that out," Logan admitted. His discontent with the situation was obvious as well. He was the type who usually preferred someone point him in the direction of the problem and let him go. Not having a direction, well, that wasn't really something he was well equipped for dealing with.

Logan couldn't help but agree with her. He hated it, because it felt a lot like giving up, but he'd lived long enough to know some things never gave up answers. You just kept wondering, eternally.

"Yeah, well, then we can just hope our number gets called next."

"Some people say maybe there's no real gettin' out. That we might be dead." He let out a humorless snort. "Not sure I believe that. I'm not that easy to kill."

He raised his fist and unsheathed his blades, in one quick motion, looking at them. "That's cuz this stuff? Is all over my entire skeleton."

Another metallic noise signaled their withdrawal.

"You sound pretty sure about that."

"Maybe all of us have lost it. Might explain some things," was his oh so optimistic reply to that. "Wouldn't matter anyway. Not much we could do about it even if we had."

"What, you have a problem with workin' alone?" He found that interesting, considering she'd been asking him about it. Maybe that was WHY she'd been.

Logan sat there a second, seeming lost in thought, before saying, very plainly: "I don't remember how I started out, but the first thing I knew about was doin' it on my own. Learnin' how to work with other people and trust 'em to not screw up - that was the hard part."

He gave her the wryest smirk. "I'm not actually some kinda social butterfly."

"What? About how to not give a shit about anyone else and do your own damn thing?" The words were harsh, but tinged with enough humor that it was obvious he didn't mean them entirely: not anymore, at least. "Doesn't really seem like the kinda thing you teach."

[identity profile] slicesanddices.livejournal.com 2011-06-29 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Didn't say that," he amended. "Just seems kinda counter productive to ask someone else to help you learn how to not take help from nobody." He shot her a glance, and there was an unmistakably teasing twinkle in the depths of his eye.

Yes, yes he can. He finishes off his drink with a nice long pull and then shoves the glass away.

"That's the general idea."
