Who: Jo Harvelle & Dr. Lance Sweets
What: Weekly Session
When: Friday, June 18th, Early afternoon
Where: Dr. Sweets' Office in the City
Rating: PG
Jo: [shows up at Dr. Sweets' office, a bit earlier than her appointment, but glad that the receptionist is busy this time instead of wanting to ask her opinion on her newest unicorn statue]
Sweets: [is just finishing up with one of the drop bys, and opens the door to walk her out, smiles at Jo] Hey, Jo.
Jo: [smiles politely, standing up] Hey. I'm early.
Sweets: That's fine. C'mon in.
Jo: [nods, following him into the room and taking a seat on the couch] Spiders gone from the castle?
Sweets: Yup. They all left when the expedition team did.
Jo: [a look] They just... followed a bunch of spiders. [shrugs] People say our world is crazy.
Sweets: [smirks] Well, I think they're trying to help the spiders "mother."
Jo: Right. [shakes her head] I guess it's something to do.
Sweets: [goes to sit across from her] So. How're things going? I saw that Sam and Dean woke up.
Jo: [nods] Yeah, they're at the same spot, too. Time wise, I mean. They both know everything that they could possibly know, which is a good thing. Even if it's not the best news from home, there's no secrets to keep.
Sweets: That's good.
Jo: Yeah. I think it's good for both of them. I know they'd both try to keep each other protected from whatever was going on. It's what they do. [shrugs] I'm good though. I painted the front room in my apartment.
Sweets: Good way to pass an afternoon.
Jo: It was a good day actually. Sam had stayed the night before, the whole nightmare thing I thought might have been the castle, so I offered him the couch. So I had the extra help, plus he's taller than me.
Sweets: You two have a good time?
Jo: [smiles] Yeah, we did. Plus, my apartment is a lovely shade of yellow.
Sweets: [smiles back] That's good.
Jo: Yeah, it was.
Sweets: Have you spoken with Dean?
Jo: Yeah. [shrugs] We try to talk, but in general I just end up getting mad at him and yelling. Which, I guess isn't exactly good.
Sweets: What made you angry with him?
Jo: He's not exactly the easiest person to talk to. When I was with Alec... [takes a breath] When I was with him I told Dean that I wasn't waiting for him, not anymore, and Dean called me out on seeing Alec for the wrong reasons. [wrings her hands] I don't know, I needed him to know that I had realized that, but that I still wasn't expecting something from him. He just focuses on the wrong parts of the conversation. The fact that I'm talking to you right now, it's not something he understands.
Sweets: Not many people do. He's not alone in that respect. [pause] Does he call you out on things often?
Jo: [exhales] I don't know. I mean, back there I wasn't in his life all the time. Then again, the few times we were on the hunt together, at least in the beginning, it was more about the mistakes I made; how I wasn't experienced enough for the job. I've grown up, but before he went home, he still only knew that girl. Now he's all caught up, but I think he just likes giving me a hassle. Plus, we're in each other's lives a lot more here than back there.
Sweets: I see. [a pause] Do you think to some extent, he still sees you as that girl?
Jo: Probably? I don't know. Before I died, he made a pass. I declined, it was the end of the world, sure, but I'd had a thing for him for four years. End of the world scenario dropping him into my lap - wasn't exactly my idea of how it'd all go. [shrugs] Then instead, I die and show up here.
Sweets: And you seem to be more drawn to Sam instead of Dean. You two spend a lot of time together.
Jo: [a suspicious glance] He was from closer in my timeline, so he at least understood what was going on to a certain extent. I mean, I'll admit that I avoided Dean when I first showed up, because Sam didn't want him to know how bad it was. I didn't want my own issues to come up, which they did anyway. I tend to just shove my foot into my mouth and gag on what I say.
Sweets: Some people consider that being honest.
Jo: [laughs] I call it my loss. I can't run game on other hunters. I can't [counts it off on her fingers] lie, drink, play cards, shoot... with you? I can rob you blind in a hand of poker. With the boys or Bobby? Forget it. I'll lose my shirt.
Sweets: Maybe that's a good thing. You said that you were worried about Sam and Dean keeping secrets from each other.
Jo: From each other, yeah, but I should still be able to keep things from them, for my own sake. [laughs] It's ridiculous, but I'm not a big fan of being asked, "Hey, Jo, how are you doing?" and actually answering them to the letter. [shakes her head] It's frustrating.
Sweets: [chuckles] I see. The little white lies apply too.
Jo: Well, it depends on why I'm lying. To protect myself, yeah I can't do it. Apparently, the little things, like lying about the color of something that I can do.
Sweets: ... Interesting.
Jo: It's the con. I could lie to protect myself, but now... I can't. It's ridiculous. Anything I ever did to keep myself safe or above someone else, I just don't have it.
Sweets: Seems like the castle wants you to find new defense mechanisms.
Jo: Yeah. Maybe. I wish I could have a drink with my friends, though, without getting wasted three beers in.
Sweets: I can understand that.
Jo: [deep breath] Sam knows not to ask, I think Bobby's trying to figure out how much he can get out of me and Dean knows not to start shit with me. It's just odd I guess.
Sweets: [nods]
Jo: It's just something else I had to get used to, I guess.
Sweets: As most things are in the castle.
Jo: Which is why I'm not in the castle. Avoiding the nightmares and spiders, at least.
Sweets: Smart move.
Jo: [smiles] I thought so.
Sweets: [nods] Things seem to be going well, Jo. What is it that you wanted to talk to me about?
Jo: [shrugs] I thought I should tell you about talking to Dean? I don't know. It was such a like knot in my stomach for the longest time, but I know it's all just stuff in my head. Validation, or wanting to make sure I wasn't just wasting my time. [shrugs] I mean, I'm like a sister to him or something and I'm actually really good with that.
Sweets: You didn't really tell me much of anything. But do you feel better, having talked to him like this?
Jo: [a glance] I didn't? [thinks about it] Maybe, it was all in my head then. [laughs] Not like that, but not as big of a deal to me as I guess I thought it was.
Sweets: So it's a bit of a relief then?
Jo: [chuckles] Yeah. Actually, it is.
Sweets: That's good.
Jo: Why'd you say I was drawn to Sam?
Sweets: [shrugs] Seems like you've been spending a lot of time together.
Jo: We're friends.
Sweets: Good friends.
Jo: [laughs] I can lie to you, Dr. Sweets.
Sweets: [laughs a bit himself] That won't help you if you do.
Jo: [scratches her head a bit] Yeah, I guess not. [then a bit more seriously] I'm gonna be fine.
Sweets: [small smile] That's good.
Jo: [a pause] It is good.
Sweets: You seem happier then you were when we first met.
Jo: [smirks] I think it's real, too. Which is... I mean, I haven't had this sort of -- I guess it's a lack of weight? I don't know, it's hard to explain. Back there, it was -- it was hard, all the time. Here's not a picnic either all the time, but I feel like I can breathe at least. There's a point that I can stop and take inventory, instead of just pushing on.
Sweets: [nods a bit] That's really good, Jo. [small smirk] Seems like soon you won't even need me anymore.
Jo: [laughs] Well, if that happens and you turn into a small creature, I'll still take good care of you.
Sweets: [grin] I appreciate that. The feeling is mutual, by the way.
Jo: [shakes her head, there's a very -oh-no- look upon her face] No animal turning for me. I'd like to skip over the awkward behavior that's not due to my actual loss.
Sweets: Good luck with that.
Jo: [laughs] Thanks, I think.
Sweets: [smirk] You're welcome.
Jo: [exhales] Do you have enough people to talk to? I mean, you listen to everyone else all the time.
Sweets: [nods] I do. I have a lot of friends back in the castle, actually.
Jo: [smiles] I'm glad. I mean, if you ever wanted to talk? Like -- [head tilt] Would that even be right? I mean, we could be friends, too, right?
Sweets: We're definitely allowed to be friends.
Jo: Okay. We should do that then. [gestures her hand to point between them] The whole friends thing. We're that. [smirks]
Sweets: [smiles] From what I can see, you're a good friend to have.
Jo: Oh, I got your back. [she might be acting a bit silly, but she figures it's the end of their time, so she has that right]
Sweets: [grin] Good. Now, I'm not much in a fight, but whatever I do got, you have.
Jo: Excellent. I'll make sure to start trouble as soon as possible.
Sweets: [laughs] Just let me know.
Jo: [smiles, with a teasing laugh] Oh, you'll hear them coming.
Sweets: Good.
Jo: [smiles, letting her laugh fade naturally] Next week, then?
Sweets: Next week it is.
Jo: [stands up and wipes her hands against her jeans] Good, I'll make sure to tell Harmony to write it in. [a glance] Does she actually... work? She's always, I don't know, not paying attention when I come in.
Sweets: [laughs a bit] She does work. She's actually a really good receptionist, my practice just isn't that busy.
Jo: Is that a good thing or a bad thing? The not busy part.
Sweets: I think that's normal for a place like this. Some people don't even know what psychologists are, let alone what they can do.
Jo: Huh. I guess that would cause a bit of a road block. Maybe you should get fliers, put up some weekly zen moment type things in the journal. Help people understand? [shrugs] I don't know, I think you do a good thing.
Sweets: [shrugs] I can't force myself to help people. I have to wait for them to come to me.
Jo: I guess that's true, too. [shoves her hands into her back pocket] Well, I'm glad you help the people you do.
Sweets: I'm happy to help them as well.
Jo: [nods and heads toward the door] I'll see you next week, then.
Sweets: [nods as he gets up to walk her out] See you next week.
Jo: [gives Harmony the information for her appointment next week and gives Dr. Sweets a wave before walking back home to her apartment, and possibly picking up some food on the way]
