Who: Sam Winchester and Bobby Singer
What: Having a beer after the canon bumps and everything else.
When: Sunday night.
Where: Bobby's room.
Rating: PG-13
Sam: Don't try and kill Crowley.
Bobby: Why'd I do that? I won twenty buck offa him on a poker game while you were sleeping.
Sam: [smirks] He's not that bad. The most harm he'll do to someone is to their dignity. He's a friend.
Bobby: He might have written something on you while we were using you as a table.
Sam: ... Seriously?
Bobby: You're a convenient table.
Sam: Did he write on me, on me?
Bobby: You should ask 'im. Tricky bastard he is.
Sam: [sighs]
Bobby: [just smiles as he takes a sip of his beer]
Sam: [leans back with his own] So how are things going otherwise?
Bobby: You mean how's it going with me being trapped in a magical castle with nothing to do? Oh, it's just peachy.
Sam: [smirk] I'm sure you'll find something, Bobby. You know, Bela works at a Magick shop.
Bobby: Ain't that fittin'. Her boss know she's a thief?
Sam: I think all Anya cares about is the fact that she knows her merchandise really well.
Bobby: One thing Bela does know is her merchandise and how to sell it to the right buyer.
Sam: Yup. Besides, Bela's been keeping it pretty on the level. She's been here almost two years now, and she's pretty close to normal -- job, boyfriend, friends, all that.
Bobby: Didn't think that'd be possible for her.
Sam: Amazing what people can do when they don't have a deal hanging over their head. Which is her loss, by the way -- she can't remember actually making her deal.
Bobby: .... You know, castle might be doing her a favor in that.
Sam: ... When it wanted her to take a trip home it chased her with hellhounds until she knocked herself out.
Bobby: Or maybe not then.
Sam: Yeah. This place can suck. A lot.
Bobby: Ain't looking forward to when it realizes I'm here.
Sam: [a softer look] Sometimes it's better than others.
Bobby: Sure.
Sam: There was a week where we all got kids to run around with.
Bobby: Random appearing kids?
Sam: Yeah, and they were ours too.
Bobby: What'da'ya mean "ours"?
Sam: Like -- my eyes, Jo's smile -- ours.
Bobby: Uh huh.
Sam: Seriously. And Dean's kid had his knack of getting into trouble, with his mom's -- superpowers. [he doesn't know how else to put it]
Bobby: So the castle just decided to take two people and mak'em into parents?
Sam: Yup.
Bobby: And it put you an' Jo together...? [there's a look there. Bobby knows something, Sam...]
Sam: .... Yes? [a beat] It doesn't mean anything. Dad got paired with a male cop last year.
Bobby: Maybe not, but you and Jo do got something going, don't ya?
Sam: [and wow, isn't that a cool looking beer] It's not ... I don't know. She's going through a lot of stuff right now.
Bobby: [yeah, Sam, you suck at lying] But you like the girl, don't ya?
Sam: [half-shrug. it's obvious, he always has, but while Dean tries to get Sam laid, Sam tries to get Dean to have a steady relationship that lasts more than a few hours. besides, she always had eyes for Dean anyway, but – details]
Bobby: You realize I go ask Jo the same question and I'll get the answer...
Sam: [yeah, he knows that. and his beer is still mighty interesting] I'm just taking things one day at a time, Bobby. That's all.
Bobby: [nods, reflecting on his beer] You kids just grow up way too damn fast.
Sam: [smirks as he looks up again] Yeah, guess so.
Bobby: You realize if you hurt her, I'm gonna whoop yer ass.
Sam: [face sobers at that] That's the last thing I want.
Bobby: I know, son. Just making sure you know that though. [smirks]
Sam: [half-smile] Yeah, I know Bobby.
Bobby: Of course she hurts you, then I'll... do something.
Sam: [laughs] No, you won't. And that's okay.
Bobby: Ya know, it was just easier when I only had yer brother to worry 'bout.
Sam: I think you should worry about what happens if Dean hurts Max. She might tear him limb from limb.
Bobby: I think she already expects yer brother to be an idiot.
Sam: Oh yeah?
Bobby: Yeah. She an' I talked while you two idjits were sleeping. Not 'bout their lovelife or nuttin', just 'bout things. But I get the picture she knows him better than we think and gets that.
Sam: Yeah, but that doesn't mean she won't kick his ass for it.
Bobby: Yeah, but even if she killed him, he'd come back.
Sam: Yeah. That's true. Just because he's coming back doesn't make it suck any less though.
Bobby: No, it don't. But it's good knowing that at least.
Sam: Yeah.
Bobby: Also good seeing you actually looking at me now and not avoidin' my eyes.
Sam: [swallows hard] Just ... there's been a lot of stuff I'm not really proud of, Bobby.
Bobby: I gathered that. You an' yer brother always keep secrets and I try not ta butt in, but you do know you can talk ta me 'bout things.
Sam: I know. I do. It's just ... hard.
Bobby: Hard 'cause I ain't lived it yet?
Sam: Hard because it's stuff that happens to you because o' me or through me, and I see what it does to you. And I don't want to see that happen to you here until I absolutely have to.
Bobby: [nods] But ya realize that I won't hate you cause of it, Sammy.
Sam: [there's an oh-so-brief flashback to when Bobby was possessed and he told Sam to lose his number, and he takes another sip of his beer] Yeah, Bobby -- I know.
Bobby: [reaches over and pats Sam's knee] just don't want you thinking all these thing when you spend time with me.
Sam: [nods] I'm not.
Bobby: Cause otherwise I'll have to slap that mood outta ya.
Sam: [laughs] Don't worry -- kicking my ass is not needed.
Bobby: Good.
Sam: [nods as he takes another sip of his beer]
Bobby: How yer dogs doing?
Sam: They're good. Well -- they're the same as usual.
Bobby: You ever think 'bout finding somone ta train those crazy ones?
Sam: Think about it? Yeah. But I don't think Ruby would appreciate it. Even if she's not here.
Bobby: So ya'd rather have them running wild than training them?
Sam: They're not that wild. They haven't attacked anyone yet. If they start hurting people, then I'll see about getting them trained.
Bobby: Boy, point is to train them before they hurt anyone at all.
Sam: [shrugs] The only time I've ever seen them come at an actual person is when they were protecting Ruby. Even if they're crazy, they're good guard dogs, and I don't want to take that out of them yet.
Bobby: Yeah, but Jo ain't their biggest fan, and if you and her get something going, you might wanna look into that.
Sam: I don't think that will help, Bobby. All that training in the world isn't going to change how they look. Besides, she gets along well enough with Alice. [which -- really is the only dog Sam's worried about because Alice is the only one that's HIS]
Bobby: [considers a moment] How 'bout this. You let me get them some training, and they can come with me. But I ain't gonna take them if they're gonna growl and not listen ta me.
Sam: [skeptical eyebrow raise] You sure about that?
Bobby: I got Cheney 'cause it gets lonely sometimes, Sam. I miss having a dog 'round ta keep me company.
Sam: [considers this for a moment] Ruby comes back, she's going to want them back.
Bobby: Ya really think she's gonna come back?
Sam: It's possible. I've been back and forth a few times, no saying that she won't be.
Bobby: Look, you don't wanna let'em go, forget the offer.
Sam: [holds up hands] Just want to make sure you know what you're getting into, that's all.
Bobby: Yeh, I get it.
Sam: [nods] Okay. If you want them, I'll bring them over later.
Bobby: You be ok without 'em? I ain't twisting yer arm.
Sam: No! Yeah, I'll be fine.
Bobby: Alright then.
Sam: Alright.
