Who: Delirium
fishy_go_byebye and Romeo
majestic_blue
What: Dinner~
When: Tonight-ish?
Where: A garden?
Rating: PG-ish
Del mumbled a little to herself as she finger walked down the hallway, memories opening up behind her as she went. Dinners didn't go well. He got angry and then everything worked but it had been very upsetting. He could be mean.
But not him. Lover (Who wasn't sparkly anymore, so Sweet Sparkly was sparkly again and Lover wasn't but he could make the glitter talk now~) was having making creating dinner and there was nobody to up and leave this time right cuz lover wouldn't do that. But the doggy was gone, and that was bad cuz presents should come back and Barnabas had been a very nice doggy even is roles went swapping.
The hallway got more chaotic behind her, but it would fade quickly, castles never did like to stay like home. Her room kept changing back.
Grabbing a handhold of nothing, Del swung herself up onto more nothing and kept on her way toward dinner. Dinner, Lover was making dinner. Lover (Who wasn't sparkly anymore, so Sweet Sparkly was sparkly again and Lover wasn't but he could make the glitter talk now~) was having making creat...

Romeo paced the stone path before the magnificent archway leading into the garden. The lilies were blooming spectacularly, as were the tulips, and some other strange flowers he didn't recognize. The moonlight washing over the silver-trimmed tablecloth helped add to the magnificence of the scene. And there were two candles set at either axis of the table, their meager gold flame dancing along the smooth metal of the entree lids. Romeo had truly outdone himself. As per the little Chris in his head, he didn't cook any of it himself, but he had fetched it all from town and smuggled it in just for this occasion.
Romeo himself wasn't to be ignored either. Never. He'd paid special attention to his hair, and donned the blue-plaid version of his costume that always complimented whatever Deli-chan wore perfectly. Tonight, as well, he'd left his cape at home. He seemed more like he was attending some kind of royal ball than a dinner, but everything he planned to say tonight was not according to any vast scenario... only his heart.
Romeo took a deep breath and waited.

She had meant to wear something blue but somewhere along the way a bit of the blue had faded into purple and a sliver of the purple had shaded into red until everything was more part of that end of the spectrum then just blue, and now it was a veritable rainbow without the green or yellow (though at the very bottom right corner a tip was blushing orange). It almost defeated the point of the slim dress and its ragged staggered bottom.
Slipping her hands over Lovers eyes, Del let the giggles come while she looked at the garden, taking it in but sliding right over its significance. Instead she focused on the candles and when they started to tell a story... Well, its only polite to listen~

He slipped out of her hold after that and spun around, only to bow low and press his lips to the back of her hand. "You look radiant tonight, as always." Laying it on thick there, Romeo? Well, he had to live up to his namesake. And he had plans for tonight... If the rest of the night were to go to pot, well, at least she would have the first part to be happy about.

She brightened quickly at the kiss and bobbled a little as she kept listening to the candles as well. Lover was so sweet today, and his hair looked so edible... Del reached a hand out to touch it, pulling gently on the blue strands as she hummed acknowledgment to to candles and their problem. The people...
"Keep trying to steal their light." And they were very unhappy about it. Perhaps they should... "Talk to the keeper, maybe there could be a sharing..." is caring. Come to that...
"Puppies are nice..."

It seemed like she was talking half inside of herself again. No matter. "No one is going to steal our light tonight, my love. Come on, we don't want it to get cold. And if we go slowly, we can still savor every moment." He took her hand and gently led her over to the table he'd set up, where he pulled out her chair and gestured for her to sit.

"What if the light wants to get stolen, then what will we do?"

Spread out on their matching platters was a feast. Some kind of seasoned duck, green and pasta salad, potatoes, a sauce that seemed reminiscent of red wine, bread, vegetable soup-- more than anyone could possibly eat in one sitting. Dessert had yet to be uncovered but he left those alone. While Del took in the sight of her food, Romeo poured them each a glass of merlot he'd smuggled from somewhere. He didn't profess to enjoy the stuff, but for the sake of being sophisticated, he dealt with it.
"... I wasn't sure if you liked meat or not. I forgot to ask. My apologies."
no subject
Well... Usually she just didn't eat. What to do, what to do? She watched him quietly, focusing a little bit more on the garden and its decorations. Fingers danced over the silverware in a pattern. Fork, knife, spoon, edge of the plate, fork knife spoon...
"it flavours like everything..."
no subject
Well, he wasn't going to let the evening fall apart just yet. He would have preferred never. He set his silverware down again, tried to disguise the quiet trembling inside of him and his fingers beneath the tablecloth.

"Wrong? Wrong... wrung, wring, ringing. The bells ring very nicely." She was being polite, ever so polite. But Lover wouldn't need her not-piecey, would he? He liked Del pieces everywhere so the pain of not-piecey wasn't worth it, was it? Maybe he was piece-y... Never good to have pieces everywhere cuz then somebody might get all cut up...
It was a visible effort for Del to pull herself together, her eyes fading into the same color (a blue-ish green or s green-ish blue. She was still Del, after all...), her hair calming around her, and a much more focused gaze. She stopped fidgeting around, holding herself still and smiled at him.
"Maybe one of us could not be in pieces. Pieces never get things where they really need to go. It would be nice to get to the pieces part again quickly, though."
no subject
... So why did they both try so hard to be something they could see anyway?
"You can be whatever or whoever you want," he said quite honestly, dark eyes locked on hers. "I'll take you as you are, if you promise to do the same for me. I'm-- I can be in pieces too, but we can put each other back together." He meant every word but he chose them carefully, too... It wasn't the right time yet to admit anything.
─ How was he supposed to say what felt natural when─
Romeo looked away, apparently still at war with himself.

She let herself start to fall apart again, sighing in relief as all the jagged parts that didn't fit anymore slid away from each other and spun her back into herself. "Del will help his pieces, but if he's fixeded he'll never get to visit."
no subject
A smile played softly across his lips, and he looked at her again, and the pang of doubt redoubled in his chest. "Na... Deli-chan. Can I ask you something?"
no subject
"Lover can ask anything. Except some things that he can't." He looked a little broody... Dream always played with things when he was broody too, and then he made it rain. Del glanced up at the sky, it still seemed clear. Maybe he wasn't. She hated it when Dream brooded, except when it was fun. Or the time the dragon made her swing. That was good.

Stupid hesitation. Stupid hesitation! Maybe he'd said too much anyway. He wanted to flee at that instant but he was stronger than that, much stronger, and so he watched her carefully and prayed to some God he didn't know that wouldn't fall apart on him again. That moment had marked the first time Romeo realized how selfish he was when it came to loving someone, and he had no right to spring that on Del back then. Perhaps now was no exception, either.
He didn't think he could watch her face, so he focused on her hands instead. Maybe, if he was lucky, she would slap some sense into him. Wait-- not likely.
"Perhaps you can understand the question better than I can explain it..."
no subject
Theoretical questions that Lover didn't want to ask but heard and resonated until nothing that made sense could come out and nothing that came out could every make sense and everything simply had to spill out. Thank goodness Del didn't need decoders. She already spoke crazy confused person talk. She thought maybe she couldn't do this. She thought maybe it was bad.
She thought maybe she led him on in circles and labyrinths that he couldn't escape and she couldn't leave.
She thought maybe they would be falling forever and never either way and perhaps she should do something about her own actions and led him in those circles. She thought maybe...
"It's my fault. Perhaps he shouldn't try to explain it. Perhaps..." And now she was looking at him. Looking at him looking away and confused and out spilled more pieces. More pieces to lead him in circles he couldn't understand to places she couldn't go and secrets she couldn't say. More pieces that would break her slowly in a way she couldn't touch. Pieces that would take a little more of the innocence she managed to keep by falling into insanity in the first place.
"...Perhaps I would want both." Falling hadn't felt very good the first time, either.

He didn't understand. She answered the only way she knew how and he loved her all the more for it, but he couldn't possibly, possibly understand the immortal toll something like Love took. He knew that he always received horrible, broken results, though, if he ever said anything.
"Deli-chan... I'm sorry..." He took a deep breath as realization hit. "This whole thing... it's destroying you, isn't it?"
no subject
"The pieces are itty..." Was all that finally came out, and it was a sad little whisper almost swallowed whole by the night. There was noting to say...
He wanted what she couldn't give him in her childishness and insanity. He wanted what she escaped when she changed and longed for before any changing started to think of happening. He wanted, oh so very much, things that lay in Desire's realm that she couldn't give to him; not ever. Humanity had changed and no longer needed Delight, and Delirium had been born of their need for...
For something that she didn't want to need to understand anyway.
no subject
Right now, he did want to give up, though. Even though he saw this coming, being faced with it was entirely different. He didn't have an appetite anymore and he really needed some time to ... deal with this.
"Well... ah... I suppose I should be going. I don't want to keep you, either, since you... don't particularly..." He smiled though he fell apart, standing up. "Thank you for everything, Del... Deli-chan. Don't be upset... I'm not upset. I just remembered I need to... goodnight."

She didn't move from the table, just sat there. Staring. At everything. At the cloth and the candles and the food that looked so lovingly laid out. She looked at where he had been and started to keen. She looked at the food and started to laugh. Finally, finally...
With a squishing noise and a pop she spilled apart, leaving a pile of wet leaves and horrible echoing uncontrollable laughter.
